  1. i'm fine w/ having him around as a bench guy defensively and who can pinch run. and it doesn't put anyone else to waste.
  2. Viciedo's got more than enough to make up for the loss of Uribe's
  3. i really like lillibridge, i just wish he was better at hitting a baseball. he's a twins-type player who's speed, defense, and ... grindy-ness would be great if he could quit striking out.
  4. wow... colon just made a nice snag.
  5. JOE CRE- what? oh... i mean, JOSH f***IN' FIELDS!
  6. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Nice, heads up play by Getz. i might have a new man crush.
  7. QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Fields caught stealing 2nd, Anderson strikes out. botched hit and run. hard to pin that on fields.
  8. this makes me feel old.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) This will either be awesome or terrible. yeah it's definitely not going to have a middle ground. i've heard they're using new technology to do the "swinging" thing and stuff like jumping off buildings. its got a $40 million budget so... s***s gonna be technologically impressive regardless. the real question is the script/music in my mind.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Well, in that case, you can always cheer for our new acquisition Gilmore from the Braves. I went to Iowa and am from Bettendorf, that's why when we have a "native" athlete like Tavian Banks in our state (Roger Craig is also from Davenport), we do want them to succeed, and it would have been nice had he done it for the Sox. I felt the same way about Jason Bohannon. It sucks to watch him playing for WI when he undoubtedly would have ended up a Hawkeye had it not been for Steve Alfraud messing up the basketball program in IC. Gilmore's funny - he's from Iowa City as you know and I never played against him, but I saw him on numerous occasions and my brother actually struck him out once. I am rooting for him, though he's kind of a douchebag... haha
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) Yeah, I guess it's just like 10 years ago when Nomar, Tejada, Jeter, Renteria, etc., started to make SS an offensive position and not an Ozzie Guillen-esque one. There just aren't that many Grady Sizemores out there...Andruw Jones also comes to mind in terms of the power/speed combination. Nate McLouth, to a lesser extent. Inevitably, we'll return to the Chris Young conversation...it has replaced the Todd Ritchie trade, along with the two Nick Swisher deals, for most debated moves in recent Sox trade history. you forgot Rey Ordonez.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) I honestly believe some guys succeed in the right situation. Sweeney wasn't in the right situation here. His style of play and personality fit a lot better out there. I'm over that trade. I'm just biased too because I'm from Iowa City, IA - 20 minutes from Cedar Rapids, where he's from. So he was always a fav. of mine.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) I don't think Sweeney would be the long-term solution in USCF witht the corner outfielders we have now...well, I guess we'll have to compare overall stats with the likely platoon situation we're going into and see if we can at least get an 800 OPS out of CF this season. It won't be easy. I don't think Sweeney will ever be much higher than 775-825 either. CF being thought of as a power position is the fault of the likes of Griffey and Torii Hunter. I'd be more than happy with a fast, slap hitting, base stealing, decent obp guy who's a plus fielder over the likes of Jerry flippin' Owens and Brian Anderson.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) The Sox wanted him to hit for power. The A's allow him to be who he is...a slap hitter, and a pretty good outfielder. i'm just gonna indulge my nostalgia for a second... Sweeney CF Beckham 2B Quentin LF Ramirez SS Fields 3B Viciedo 1B if only...
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/boxscore.jsp?gid=2...chamlb_oakmlb_1 Let's try to break this funk we're in...Ryan Sweeney hitting .425 coming into the game, fwiw. i was just thinking about it... how sick would it be if we still had him... solve our CF and leadoff issues... *sigh*
  16. yeah i love this. for all the potential floyd has this is a great deal. even if he's only mediocre it's a great deal w/ the cost of pitching these days.
  17. this is one of my favorite posts ever. i'm so glad i'm a fan of The 2009 Chicago White Sox Major League Athletic Baseball Team

    Dreams

i had this one dream when i was little that I've ALWAYS remembered. it was when i was staying in a hotel with my parents. and all the dream was, was me sitting on the edge of a hotel bed (different hotel) with those scratchy crappy brown blankets. my legs were hanging over the bed and there was a beaver eating one of my knees. not just knawing on it, but like, pulling off really clean neat slices starting at the knee cap and getting larger as he got further down. and i just watched him. didn't hurt - i just watched him eat my knee. interpret THAT baby.
  19. man what a day... woke up in Philly, did a show at 10am (i do a touring gig) hopped a train to New York, auditioned for Spider Man, took a cab to the airport, changed planes in Boston, got to O'Hare, and trained it back to my car and back to my place... all in all: 4 Cities 3 Trains 3 Cars 2 Planes 2 Buses 1 Day and yes, I'm exhausted. but the audition went really well - casting director was really complimentary and we talked for a bit about my being from Chicago and how typically when we're from out of town they try and call us in close to a callback etc etc... in other words, I'm pretty optimistic. Still a massive long shot - but who knows.
  20. not that anyone cares to make it worth bringing this thread back, but tomorrow I've got an audition for this beast. Got called in for Peter Parker... so fingers crossed. They offered it to Jim Sturgess of Across the Universe fame but he's turned it down... i'm hoping it stays that way. haha
  21. did you see The Wrestler? seems like fun actually.
