i actually really liked it - aside from that final butterfly scene... bit too heavy handed for me. one butterfly would've been great. but sci-fi/fantasy/political drama? yeah i'm in. lol
  3. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Like I said... trial balloon. And in that way, they get all the power. This isn't about the American people, this is about getting all the power they can into government. Oh, wait, I'm supposed to just trust Obama, he's our president, and he's the Messiah. HE will save health care. And everything else. (Kaperbole ™ ). Seriously, though, the more welfare type giveaways the government gives, the more votes he gets in the long run - see 50% of people don't pay taxes and they are going to get more credits then ever before - this is why I say Obama is one of the smartest Dems to come around in a long time. The more entitlements he gives away and hurts the "rich", the more "poor" votes he gets, and remember the tax scale. There's a hell of a lot more "poor" then "rich", so he doesn't give a f***, it's about getting Democrat votes. That cannot be denied. It works for a good while, honestly. And a good while is long enough to make sure the policies slant it that way for longer then a while. alright, there's no point arguing cuz you believe what you believe - but what he's doing RIGHT NOW is not pandering for votes. obviously. otherwise he wouldn't be saying taxing health benefits is an option... cuz that's SUCH a popular stance... you slay me.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) This right here proves that Obama doesn't give ONE S-H-I-T about the American people. Either do it my way or I will punish you. I know, I know, this is a trial balloon to see what response they get, but this is a motherf***er move right here. i think no matter what, you're going to read everything the exact same way. if he didn't give ONE S-H-I-T about the American people he wouldn't try to overhaul Health Care in the first place... but he recognizes he has to pay for it somehow, so he's open to any ideas, one of them being taxing benefits. fine. you HAVE to be open to everything if you're going to find the thing that works. seems logical to me. the article didn't say he's GOING to, just that it's one of the options on the table.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Interesting. http://www.chronicle-tribune.com/articles/...3d329352661.txt Actually from the Washington Post oringally. interesting, but also written with an obvious slant, and the writer's opinion on the matter is very transparent.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) I'm sorry but that is a total copout. This is the same behavior that Wall Street exhibited WHILE HAVING NO DUTY TO REPRENT THE GOOD OF ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES, and yet they are being paraded and crucified as some kind of greedy pariahs. Congress does it, and they are just doing their jobs. That is a load of crap. Maybe if our representatives remembered to look out for the good of the country instead of themselves, things wouldn't have gotten nearly as bad as they have gotten, and continue to be. you're totally missing the "doing good for their constituents" part of my argument aren't you?
  7. between a big silver willie, and the chicago spire, we're gonna have on phallic skyline.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) So I take it you are against things like Universal Heath Care, changing enviormental standards, ending oil dependence, rasing the minimum wage, etc. All of these things have people's jobs tied to them, and they are just doing their jobs to protect the status quo, right? Principle is all well and good until you have to be the one in the position to stand by it. listen, it doesn't matter what it SHOULD be and it doesn't matter what you WANT it to be. The truth of the matter is that people DO make careers out of politics and, that being the case, they try to protect that career. Keep in mind, that while they are doing this they are also doing what the people they represent WANT them to be doing. You said their job is to REPRESENT the people, and most of this pork is just that - senators trying to get projects passed that help THEIR constituents and, in the process, help them get re-elected. in the end, the crux of my argument was this: if YOU or anyone else on this board were in their position, would you really do any different? look at it this way. all of the congressmen in office think that they can do some good for their constituents, otherwise they wouldn't be there. nobody starts in politics from a corrupt point of view (a generalization, but generally true). how many of them feel like they can get ALLLL of their goals accomplished in one term? not many. so, therefore, they must seek re-election. how do you get re-elected in order to ensure that all of your plans have a chance to come to fruition? you throw some pork on a bill that helps out the people that put you there. it's a cycle, it continues, it's the way it is, it's not all bad, it's not worth the uproar.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) I care. What's $10,000,000,000 between friends right? Like I said, if it is a good cause, make it stand up on its own merits. Don't hide it in another bill because you know it is the only way it would pass. My point is that it shouldn't be their job to waste money simply for the reason that "Everyone else is doing it." Why not actually try to do thinks more effeciently? It is our elected representives jobs to not only look at what is good for the district, but also to look collectively at what is good for the nation. Them getting re-elected is the last reason something should be happening. Crap like this is how we end up with entire departments of government that complete wastes of time and taxpayer money. I'm sick of this high horse people get themselves on. each of us would do the exact same thing to protect our job. it's our JOB. how we make money. and they don't want to lose it any more than you or I want to lose ours. Principle is all well and good until you have to be the one in the position to stand by it.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 07:25 AM) What a great, unintentional, statement of how flawed the system really is. Its not about what is best for the country, or the district. Its about what is best for getting re-elected. It doesn't matter what the future effects of actions are, just make sure you can stand up in front of the voters and say you brought them lots of stuff. Even if the dollar amount isn't huge, it adds up over time, and we pay interest that multiplies up over time. Saying that it doesn't amount to much only justifies the waste built into the system as a necesary evil. If this stuff is really needed, make it stand up on its own merits, instead of hiding in something that either can't be voted against, or as a bribery technique to get something passed. The whole idea that "transparency" will make everything OK is counterintuitive as well, as we can see how well that worked with CEO pay being published. Far from discouraging things, it only led to an explosion. Now instead of no one really knowing, each district will be able to see what their Sen/Rep is doing, and to be able to ask why they are underperforming the Sen/Rep next door, and give an opening for someone else to say I WILL BRING YOU MORE FREE STUFF. This isn't going to solve the problem, it is only going to exsaserbate it. If you really want to save money and "fix" government, why does it matter what the dollar amount is? Fix the damned problems. There is nothing that saids if you go after earmarks, you can't go after waste in other sectors of government. of course the system's flawed, because we're humans and we're not perfect. every ONE of us on this board would do the exact same things these senators do - and that is to make sure projects for OUR constituents get put into motion so that WE can get re-elected. Mind you, this is their JOB, and just like all of you, they'd like to keep it. Of COURSE that means we may end up wasting money on some things that may be "less important" from a general perspective, but it's the way it works, and some times you just gotta live with that. and a point that Rex made, not all earmarks are bad. in fact, most of them probably aren't bad. And, like I said, as long as the main measure gets passed, who cares what earmarks are attached (obviously to a point, of course). Is it more important to get a budget passed, or to argue for weeks over the pork?
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) I think it's funny you say "your guy" while clarifying you weren't an Obama fan and insisting he doesn't say that. Kap openly hated McCain on here. haha touche. that was what i guess you'd call hypocritical of me.
  12. i get that you're sad that your guy lost - but give it the f*** up. a majority of the country wanted this guy in office, he's got a huge crisis to deal with, and i think at this point none of us know what better to do - so we've all got to just see what happens. he certainly gives more than a rat's ass about the economy... by the way - please remember i was no big obama fan, so don't use that stupid argument against me.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) Really, Reddy? Why is it that you people always want to acknowledge everyone else but what comes out of the mouth / information from Obama himself? When are you people going to realize he is not about this "change" that you all wanted? Well, yea, things are changing... he's going as far left as he can force things without getting his pee pee stomped on. That's why he's trying to shove all this s*** down our throats before he loses his Messianic approval ratings. See my sig. It's exactly what is happening. And he doesn't give a rat's ass about the economy. He just wants his s*** done and he doesn't care what it hurts. that's just asinine.
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) We had a separate thread on this, but I don't think anyone had mentioned the naming rights in it. What a pissy thing all the way around. my bad. i'm just pissed... AND facebook changed its layout today. wtf is wrong with the world?
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) I agree. However, Obama is a dumbass of the first degree when Obama made that a focal point and then turned right around and signed the bill, AND THEN on top of that, "when earmarks are done the right way... blah blah blah". Some change. That was just a pure lie. PURE lie. That is indefensible. Kind of like he won't have lobbiests in his administration. When are people going to learn that no one in Washington is any different? All they want is their own power. And that's both parties. it was mccain who cried out against earmarks and pork on the campaign trail - not obama. and i'm sick of you people who think washington can be changed in a day. how many senators would have voted for this bill WITHOUT the pork? it's about getting SOMETHING done and not quibbling over the bulls***.
  16. guys, in case it couldn't get worse, they're considering painting the whole thing............... silver. gag me now.
  17. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Yeah, you can definitely see the power in that swing. I would love to see him try and hit some curveballs. cha-ching. just wait until pitchers throw a slider to him, or a good breaking ball. no question of the talent though...
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) KFC Snacker >>> BK Slider now the KFC snacker, THAT'S something I can get behind.
  19. 1. Wendy's 2. BK 3. McD's 4. White Castle come on - mcD's chicken sandwiches are bogus, their burgers and gross - only the fries redeem them. as for the sliders, haven't had the shots - but White Castle's are f***ing gross. soggy and nasty tasting. i don't even like them when i'm drunk.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) I still miss Swish, but if Marquez can pitch like this on a consistent basis, I will miss him significantly less. Regardless, it sounds like Swish had no place on this team now and in the future. On the Contreras front, it sounds like nothing except caution from the coaches will stop him from being in the rotation on opening day. it is nothing short of MIRACULOUS that he's healed so fast. it's insane. it's only been 7 months or so since his injury. that's 5 MONTHS ahead of schedule. suddenly it looks like we have a lot more depth than we thought... i love it.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) Except half a foot shorter. granted. but in every other aspect - just his proportions. especially the big booty.
