QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Jim Thome had an Obama/Biden sign in his front yard. that shocks me. but awesome. i feel like typically baseball players are GOP because so many of them hail from conservative areas. guys like Clemens, Kent, Berkman, Bagwell, Buehrle, etc.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) At his age, John McCain will now just fade away. i honestly expect him to be a strong voice in the senate. and i think he will try and do just what he promised and bring the country together. i love the old mccain, and i think that's who's gonna be back. last night's speech showed that.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Time and time again? OK first, there have been very few elections with an african american and a white person at a high level office that has been well-polled, so, it cannot have been "proved" to exist or not exist in any complete way. Second, a theory does not have to have any sort of proven event. A theory can be just that - a theory - which may have never been truly tested. And that is the case here, IMO. We simply have not had anything like this before. So really, there cannot be any proof one way or the other. Thus, it is in fact a theory. depends on our definition of the word theory i guess. but alright, i'll concede and let y'all debate.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) You are welcome to feel that way, but, others disagree. Not the end of the story. The effect didn't show up in the primaries for what I think is an obvious reason - the Hillary effect. Just as some folks are more racist than they let on, the same goes for sexism. Also, in the case of Ford Jr or even Bradley himself, we aren't talking about the Presidency here. The thought process associated with it is vastly different. Fear of the unknown is much more in play. But, as others have pointed out, there are all sorts of other potential X factors in play that may not be accurately reflected in the polls - larger than expected turnout, age band turnout changes, last minute ground games, and cell phone user rates. And all of those would seem to favor Obama. So, if there IS a Bradley effect (or a fear effect), then it may be buried in the noise. We may never know. i'm just saying time and time again it's been proven that it doesn't exist, and even if it DID happen once it can't be a theory - it's an anomaly.

my default is usually CNN even though i know they're not the best. just habit

QUOTE (easyw @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) Thome gave out autgraphed pictures of himself to trick or treaters this Halloween. Jenks lives about 1/2 mile from him, but I didn't go by his house, so I'm not sure what he was giving out. Probably just candy - I'm sure the Jenks house always has plenty of that on hand. what an arrogant mutherf***er.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Penn GOP goes against McCain's wishes.... I assume since McCain is such an honorable man that he will denounce this ad. they can run that on TV? dear god.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Palin at Solar Power Plant: Drill, Baby Drill D'OH! watch out! she's gone ROGUE! which, hey, i've got absolutely no problem with if she says things like this. that's just awesome.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Obama may have the critical 18-35 vote, but McCain will DOMINATE the newborn to 17 vote. It might just push him over the top. you do mean the 18-70+ vote right?
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) and over half the "crowd" was bussed in from a school district So, they bussed in people who cant even VOTE (with the exception of maybe some High School seniors who may be 18) to fill in a McCain rally. but he's got obama right where he wants him. just remember that.

it's a ton more fun to be in a toss-up state. i've had john edwards and dick gephardt to my house in Iowa. I've met bob graham, kerry, obama, kucinich, etc. if you're into politics there's nothing better. now, if you hate politics then it really sucks. haha. but i think it's definitely in a state's interest to be "in play" because honestly, you get your voice heard much more often. no dem candidate needs to pander to california, though it might help to promise iowa (in the past) a little sumthin' sumthin'

haha oops! man, this campaign has just completely unraveled.

i actually love black friday... my brother and dad hate me for it.

thing is, i think this woman is hell-bent on power. she'll run in 2012.

QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) and me too, but look at the alternatives: 1) John Kerry 2) We'd be looking for a new VP, because John Edwards would have been out because of the affair scandal 3) The Economic Crisis has little to do with Bush 4) John Kerry oh and... 5) I can't wait to buy my first house next year for a 30-50% discount all i'm gonna say is that we have no clue whether or not the affair would've happened had he been VP. it's still me folks... and i still always jump to defend my boy. almost got crazy in a class the other day. haha

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) Again, with the population growth, comes record youth turnouts. I can't think of an election where there hasn't been record numbers of youth voting. And the Dems like to energize the youth vote and reporting the records and the grass roots enthusiasm is a great way to doing it. I'm not discounting the importance or influence, but it's been a constant in every Presidential election since Carter. The youth are voting in record numbers! Be a part of the generation like all your friends. Let me say this another way. Are there more youth in America today or four years ago? 24 years ago? the youth turnout in the primaries was up dramatically. and my dad works with polling and his numbers he got back recently showed that something like 40% of youth say they follow the election "closely", and 73% said they absolutely plan to vote. and whether they do or not, even THAT number is up significantly from the past.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) Reddy doesn't even like Obama. hahaha i didn't even see this when i wrote above comment. case in point.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) Pretty ballsy to assume that his campaign is actually sending those out. If theyre even real, they might just be some idiot. I love the assumptions though, Im sure if the shoe was on the other foot you would condemn Obama immediately like you are McCain, stay classy. lol i didn't condemn john mccain. and i didn't say his campaign was sending them out. of course they're not. and yes, I WOULD condemn Obama cuz as everyone here knows I'm not his no. 1 fan. I think he's got a lot of problems and he's exactly the same as every other politician who's ever run for office. I just don't want that Palin character anywhere near the White House.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) I'm surprised more people weren't this excited over Brad Eldred last offseason. because it's the first interesting thing to happen. and we're bored.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) I'm not ripping him. I'm saying he didn't sign this guy with the thought that he's anything but minor league fodder. Keep in mind his team had a batting average of .290 and an OPS of .814. He's also acquired guys like Erstad, Horacio Ramirez, Bukvich, Toby Hall. Not everything he touches turns to gold. He's had some big hits, I'll give him that. KW has signed plenty of minor league FA to play in Charlotte. This guy was a minor leaguer who was released. I think KW is aiming a little higher than this. oh yeah, i mean obviously the idea is that he's a minor leaguer who gets invited to camp to see if there's anything there - but we've had those before that have turned out really well.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) If Nix is in the White Sox plans, KW is crazier than Ozzie. All your scouting reports are from 2004. That's 5 seasons ago. He hasn't been a Rockies top 10 prospect for 3 years. He's a guy who has some ability and an outside chance to be a bench player. I wouldn't read anything more into this than that. Amazing how much excitement another all or nothing hitter who hasn't proven squat gets around here. He's a strikeout machine. how about we give KW the benefit of the doubt given the fact that he's done this over and over and over and every time people rip the decision and then we get CQ, Lexi, Loaiza, Thornton, Jenks, etc
