QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) Doesn't some unknown "critically acclaimed" movie do well every single year at these stupid ass award ceremonies? theyre usually only unknown to the mainstream population... those of us who are big into movies have usually at least heard about them, if not seen them. at least that's been the case for the last few years

i got back to Rogers Park yesterday... classes start tomorrow. cant say i'm looking forward to it at all. ugh.
-
nice job dude
-
too bad that brokeback's gonna do so well... it really didnt deserve it. and that opinion is solely based on the fact that i dont think it was a great movie - not the content involved. before seeing it i was stoked about it, but not so afterwards... best director really should go to Clooney
-
i always thought he was italian... huh

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 14, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Messing with guns isn't funny, to me, at least. Around here there's always stories of someone being careless during hunting season and dying because of it. It's great he was fine, but you shouldn't be able to own a gun without some sort of hunter's/gun safety training. I did, and I never got hurt, but I still think that should be the case. i completely agree with you. it was my friends gun and earlier in the day i was arguing with him about even bringing it. i didnt see the point and i didnt want him to. if he'da listened to me none of this woulda happened. but i'm sure he wont do it again anytime soon. same with my friend that pulled the trigger - it really kinda freaked him out and rightfully so. we were just lucky that nothing bad came of it

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) were you the one who yanked cannon on him? lol nah we were out paintballing and a friend of mine was like "hey we should use bb guns too!" which was brilliant
-
so this is the best excuse i've ever heard for getting out of assignments in school. my brother yesterday was shot in the back of the head with a bb gun (he was only hit in the head because he dove to avoid being shot...), but at the time, we all thought he was fine cuz he got up and was laughing about it and went about his business. then later last night my parents called me telling me that the doctor thought he needed to get xrays to make sure the bullet wasnt still in his head. well apparently it was and this morning he had it cut out, then went back to school holding gauze to his head. throughout the day he got to say "i got shot in the head - i couldnt do my homework, the doctor cut it out this morning" etc etc now it was a scary night/morning, but now since he's ok it's a freakin hilarious story/excuse!

well my last name starts with 'red'... and uh when i was a freshman some kids started calling me reddy so... kinda stuck. such an awesome story i know.

QUOTE(Random @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) pissed me off because of his distrust of the 2005 Chicago White Sox is member number 2554, i have 2557 posts - thats almost the same number (now i have 2558 so it's less like 2554 than it was before i posted this)

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) has anyone stopped to ask, exactly how many real life gay cowboys are there? is this a story that "MUST BE TOLD?" I'm pretty sure if this were two wall street workers no one would care...and even less if they were actors playing actors. to answer your question, figure out first how many cowboys there are in the world, then take 10 percent of that number. the number you end up with is how many real life gay cowboys there are. give or take.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) no wonder pods had those groin problems. i think it'd be funny to go back and see how many times this joke was made even so, its still funny cuz its true

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) yes i did. The acting was great and deserve Academy Award nominations. However the screenplay is awful and they try so hard to be dramatci it almost becomes laughable. i completely agree with your analysis of the movie. (still dont think its in the top 10 WORST) but yeah i had such huge expectations for the movie but i walked out with the same reaction you had.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) it had an all star cast. Maybe it's because i am a huge fan of the game but I thought it was well done considering it was made on a really small budget. you seriously have "son of the mask" as better than "brokeback mountain"??? i mean i didnt particularly love brokeback, but dude, come on. the acting, if nothing else was pretty damn good. that alone should put it above most of those others you listed

haha i love this thread. thank you mister newb for starting it.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 06:19 AM) Name: Anderson Gomes Born: 03/12/1985 Birthplace: Sao Paulo, Brazil Height: 6'1" Weight: 185 Bats: Right Throws: Right Gomes played for the Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS (Iguchi's old team) from 2002 to 2005. He was converted from a pitcher to an outfielder in 2005. He supposedly runs the 100-meter dash in less than 11 seconds and has a good arm. The Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS released Gomes on 10/30/2005. his hat makes me laugh... its funny looking - but yeah... not sure what we're gonna do with a kid who was cut from the japan leagues...

holy god i feel dumber after hearing that... i want to die right now

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) If Abreu put on a homer display like he did in the Home Run Derby and kept getting those RBI's I'd like it. note how he did the rest of the year... yeah abreu is good but not worth destroying our defense (abreu, anderson, pods? ick)
-
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Really? The only change defensively is Anderson. And Anderson, from all reports, is no slouch with the glove. If he is as good as Rowand remains to be seen, but I think saying that our defense is severely downgraded is an overstatement. I'd go more with "slightly downgraded in center field." aaron was arguably the best CF in the game last year, only making 3 errors all year. no way anderson matches or comes close to that.
-
guys the other thing is, look where we got last year with our pitching and defense. yeah adding a bat (thome) will help a ton, but our defense even as it is right now is severely downgraded. our team last year made baseball prospectus rethink their take on defense. they now say that defense actually CAN help you (and in our case DID) win games. if we were to trade for Abreu, we would just be the Red Sox with, granted, slightly better pitching. I'm not sure any of us want that. I'd be just fine without either Abreu or Tejada. I think we're good to go as is.

this was the funniest segment i've seen in a while. i love Byrd's hand motions - f***ing hilarious!

QUOTE(Jake @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) Brian is the cover story on Minor League Baseball's site. Nice to see. Other than they call him Kevin. i think kevin is his middle name... on rotoworld they always put Brian K. Anderson
