QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) At the end of the day, China's economy is propped up on US goodwill. If they start shooting at our planes, and we quit buying cheap Chinese crap in the process, the Chinese economy goes down the toilet, and probably takes the government with it. That is why China isn't scary. Eh, the statement stands. China is the only country who could even attempt to threaten the US. Because if you think that the US economy is propped up by China, what do you think the result will be if the US can no longer borrow money from China. Its just a different form of MAAD.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) I do not believe that there is any reason to fear China, but in the grand scheme of things, I feel that China is about 1,000,000x scarier than North Korea. It depends on how you define scarey. If you mean which country is more likely to make a random off the cuff decision that results in the death of thousands of people, its probably NK. If you mean which country could conceivably actually threaten the US, its China.

Plasmas are extremely inefficient (use more energy) and they have a risk of screen burn.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) I said learning as a STAGE PERFORMER, as in, he is learning how to perform at big concerts where he has to entertain a large group with pyrotechnics and have stage direction for cameras and be a good performer for that type of venue. For the better part of a decade he has been doing smaller shows, and certainly not on a big solo tour. You alluded to seeing him live and thinking he was not as good as LOLWayne. I had the exact opposite experience and I used his newness to these types of performances as maybe as an example of why you had a different experience than mine. Now if you are saying you simply think Lil Wayne is a better rapper, or has better music than Macklemore, than I am afraid we can end this discussion right here because I wouldn't be able to take you seriously after that. I had a different experience because outside of Pac and Biggie Ive seen pretty much every rap group a live and Macklemore was a 14 year old teeny show. And I dont care if you take me seriously: http://therapinsider.com/2013/06/19/defeat...e-people-dance/ You may not like Lil Wayne and you may be the biggest Macklemore fan boy on the block, but there is a reason why Mackelmore looks up to Lil Wayne. (see 10:50 on where he starts talking about how he wants to meet Wayne and he thinks Wayne is the biggest influence on his career, the other being Kanye.) Yeah thats called checkmate. Unless you dont take Macklemore seriously? Lulz

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) First off, I've been listening to Macklemore for years now, I know he didn't just start rapping. But what does any of that have to do with what I said? You should also tell me I'm wrong because he's from Seattle, because that too has nothing to do with the conversation. You said: I correctly pointed out that both of them have been at the rap game for a similar amount of time. So it doesnt make sense to say that Macklemore is still learning and Wayne isnt, when they are both practically the same age.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) I've seen Macklemore and Lil Wayne live, and it wasn't even close, Macklemore killed it. Probably has something to do with the fact that lil wayne is a terrible rapper and his music sucks, but even Macklemore just learning how to be a stage performer was better than Lil Wayne 3-4 years ago when he was supposed to be in his prime. lol Macklemore is 1 year younger than Wayne. You just dont realize that for 10 years everyone knew Macklemore sucked, but I guess hes gone pop and is doing well with kids. That was 2000, was a tough time to be a weak Eminem.

Person of Interest is a great show.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) Was interesting to see Miley Cyrus getting a standing ovation at the AMAs for a bizarre performace which basically stated "I am miley cyrus and i want to be naked and do lsd and smoke pot all day long" This is where music is going. EDM is growing and the drug scene is exploding. f*** even im listening to the Lana Del Ray Summer Time Remix by Cedric Gervais. And I used to exclusively listen to rap and classic rock.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) Macklemore and Ryan Lewis just won the AMA for hip hip/album of the year. Much deserved. It was up against Magna Carta....Holy Grail and Good Kid, M.a.a.d city. Garbage. Ive seen all of them live and Macklemore was no where in Kendrick's or Wayne's class. That album isnt even close to I Am Not A Human Being 2, Yeezus or Good Kid Bad City.

The Bulls definitely should trade Deng and any asset above 30. Younger guys it would depend on the deal.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) It was avoidable in the sense that if he didn't play he wouldn't get hurt. But these were non contact injuries, so it seems to me they were most likely going to happen eventually. No it was in the last minute of the game and there is some science that suggests ACL injuries can be related to fatigue. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19568192 https://digital.library.txstate.edu/bitstre....pdf?sequence=2 But whats done is done.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) He mised a ton of time during that season with all sorts of injuries. Right it was the short season. They tried to rush him back and Rose was trying to play through injuries. Not a good combination. All I can do is hope that in the future other teams protect their star player and have him sit a few more games, even at the cost of losing. And Caffey, exactly. Thats why the discussion should be about whether the first injury was avoidable.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) This injury probably goes a long way towards proving the guy just has a disposition to the injury, and it was going to happen no matter how much rest he got. Not sure I agree with this. Rose never really had a significant injury prior to the ACL. The truly tragic part is that may have all been due to a the lockout/short season.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 03:30 AM) So I've downed about 6 cups of vodka/oj and I feel the need to speak my mind. To Badger, your acqusations (I know I spelled that wrong) are wack. Do you really think i'm sitting here poppin' champagne and lmao at what's happened to rose? i'm not, nor will I ever be, the cuddly, goo goo ga ga homer (think elrockin) bulls fan that i'm sure most people here would love. But I am a bulls fan. Have been for most of my life. This is tragic what's happened to derrick. This is a new golden age for the nba and it's only gonna get better with the '14 class coming in. But to lose Derrick sucks in a big way. For the Bulls and the league. Assuming it's a tear (I guess there's a 10% chance it's something not as severe) then it's official: Derrick Rose's body has betrayed him. No more fluke this or bad luck that. The kid is as injury prone as injury prone gets and can't be counted on for anything going forward. And it's strange. Dude was ironman his first three years. Then the lockout season comes and he's like a 90-year old man. Whatever. the Bulls are bigger than Rose and have to go on. Badger says the bulls shouldn't turn their back on him. THEY LITERALLY CAN'T! They can't amnesty him. Too late for that. They can't trade him. He's ours until he decides to retire or his contract runs out. That said, you have to "forget" about him. The quiet, humbled, hometown superstar that was supposed to take us places we haven't seen since 23 is gone. You can cry, whine, life is over, act like your kid died, etc, etc all you want. But it is what it is. Rose won't be the first or last player that you'll ultimately wonder "what if" when it comes to his career. Bulls need to trade off whatever they can (not butler, Teague or snell) for young players/assets. If you have to take back a bad contract or two (no longterm ones) then so be it. Thibs has to adjust. No more playing your starters insane minutes to win every single regular season game possible. It's year 4. Time to develop, or at least attempt to, some young talent that can improve the future. I won't even talk about tanking because the east is so buck s*** after Miami/Indiana it's not even funny. Ideally the bulls finish something like 34-48 and still have a good shot at a top 6 pick. Maybe you werent, but it sure seemed like it. And quite frankly I never thought this Bulls team would win a championship, ive wanted to trade assets for years to get a better core that made more sense. As for Thibs, no one has b****ed/moaned/complained about how he has treated players than me. So you are preaching to the choir. And thats why I was so angry, because I honestly believe that his first injury was avoidable.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 01:27 AM) My disdain? Joy? What are you talking about? I'm 30. Not 12. The reality is what it is. I'm not going to cry. What would be the point? I've seen Penny, Hill, Amare, Oden, Bymun, Ming, Roy and others careers derailed/ruined because their bodies betrayed them. Nothing you can do. It would be beyond foolish to rely on Rose in any capacity long-term if this is another tear. I can see right through you. You added his middle name, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see the disrespect. And its not about relying on him. Its about the fact that when someone is down, you dont f***ing knife them in the back so you can maybe get to some mythical promised land.
-
Jake, If you want the sobering truth. Its unlikely anyone, let alone someone like Rose, could mentally overcome something like this.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 01:09 AM) Sorry. Stick a fork in him if it's another ACL tear. You just don't comeback from dual torn ACLs and be the same. The Bulls have to operate as a franchise as if Derrick Martell Rose doesn't exist. Youre wrong. Youre disdain for Rose is noted, and you are wrong. Im just not sure how you can find any joy in this. Love the Bulls, hate the Bulls, Rose was a gifted player, maybe even a special player that people would remember for years. And if he truly is hurt like they say, its a sad day for the NBA. So right now all any basketball fan should be doing is hoping that its wrong. Because otherwise its just a s***ty day for basketball.
-
I was going to write this odd introspective post about 15k posts, 11 years and all of the strange ideas that go on in my head and give real insight into the person behind the screen. Then I read about Rose and I seriously got sad. So I know it wont mean anything, because I dont really believe in anything, but I just want Rose to be okay. Its been a long strange trip and I do appreciate all of you who have interacted with me over the last decade. I am sorry if my online personality can be standoffish.
-
F that Rose gets a chance to come back. If the Bulls dont show him loyalty, then f*** them as a franchise. He may never be the same, but I would never support turning your back on him.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 23, 2013 -> 12:46 AM) Will Carroll tweeted that the early tests are showing torn acl, MRI to confirm. And then we all weep together. This is going to be devastating beyond words. Im pretty upset and I dont even follow the Bulls that closely.

This is just trash. He deserved better, way better.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) We're talking about words and guns in the context of defeating Hitler/Fascism, not whether the suffering of the Jews means something greater in the grand scheme of life. Well the only way to have stopped Hitler was with words. Jews were an extreme minority in Germany. Even if every Jew had 6 guns, they would have been able to put up 0 resistance to Hitler. Why? Because for the most part, the Jews in Germany were convinced to give up their rights and never even fought back until it was to late. The Nazi's used words to convince Jews to do things like "Wear a yellow star" so if the Jews had guns, Germany would have just made a law that banned Jews from having guns. Its not reality that the Jews could have fought the Germans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Germany What could 200k people do against Millions? People forget that the 6mil figure is mainly Jews in countries that were captured by Germany.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) And again, I don't necessarily disagree, but your point is pretty meaningless here. Words won out in the beginning and then when it was too late words didn't matter. Probably not, but I'm sure they would have liked the opportunity. And some did fight back, with guns, and survived, like the Bielski brothers. 6 million didn't. And i'm sure all 6 millions of them protested what was happening to them as it was happening. In that respect, words meant nothing. You dont understand being a Jew . Just because they died, doesnt mean their words meant nothing. Just because they died, doesnt mean their lives were meaningless. They meant something, their deaths meant something, their struggle meant something, their words meant something. Im sorry, but the Anne Frank's diary means something. Her words mean something, her death means something. It probably means more than had she killed 100 Nazis with guns before she died. Because her words will live on, because hopefully her words will make other people better people, hopefully her words will help stop the next Hitler if there ever is one. Because if you can live in an attic, watch your family get murdered, watch your friends turn on you and want you dead, and still believe this: You have power.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) Hitler and his brown shirts drummed up a lot of "support." An armed uprising might have stopped him, but I don't think there was a group with guns to do that. That's my point. Brown shirts were very small compared to the actual military to start. SA was kind of a joke, which is why Hitler got rid of them to gain the army (see above post).
