QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:15 PM) It's also data from the St.Louis fed, but i guess some old anecdotes are more valuable. Its very likely there are more traders today than there were in the past. You now have a firm who purchases 1 seat and has 50 people trading on globex accounts. Compare that to the 70s/80s when you basically had 1 person 1 seat, a few people renting and maybe 1 or 2 sharing. Which is why the floor was so packed, because that was the only way to trade. Now half the people dont even go there because the edge is so small, I always thought working the computer alone was easier because taking broker trades always seemingly was the wrong side. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) That doesn't matter, it is what he read on-line that is reality! Arent trading floors dead due to the spread of globex and the lack of advantage of floor trading? Why are people ignoring this? I mean back in the 80s floor traders had a huge edge, they would get at least a tick, by the end of the 90s it was a half tick edge. Thats a huge difference and saying something about 2006 is after the floors already were pretty dead. -
You havent watched a lot of Cubs games then, I can recall plenty of dropped fly balls in RF, and some of the more hilarious ones were players who didnt even have their sunglasses on. As a Sox fan most of us dont watch a lot of Cubs games, but RF at Wrigley is brutal. Sun sets in the West and its directly in the RFers eyes. Even Stone commented about how RF sun is brutal there, its well known.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2012 -> 09:57 PM) And yet like somebody said, if that's DeAza dropping it, the fans would have turned on DeAza big time. Rios for some reason gets the benefit of the doubt. This is sarcasm right? Rios is the biggest whipping boy. And I dont know what other people would do, I watch the game and make my own decisions.

Wood was a good guy, loyal to the Cubs, turned down other teams to keep playing there, etc. What is not to like if your a Cubs fan? As Sox fans we have a negative perception due to the hype that surrounded him and hearing about him constantly from Cubs fans, but so what, at the end of his career Sox have a ring and the Cubs dont. Compare him to Prior or half the other douches that team has had, its easy to see why fans are canonizing him. Even how he acted with his kid, just seemed like a nice guy.
-
Rios was going for the ball, he tries to close the mitt at the time he thought the ball would be there. The ball hits his mitt/hand, just bad luck.

2 more outs on the replay before I can finally see this Rios play.

Isnt that due to computers and the death of local/broker advantage? Because back in the 90s people at the CME were saying the end of floor trading was near and kept telling stories about the London Stock Exchange. -
Well finally getting a chance to watch the game. Dont think Konerko was hit on purpose, just crappy bad luck that the pitch spun that way. I didnt mind the Wood thing, he seems to have been a good guy whatever, nice for him and his kid. The Cubs are just a sideshow now, so I dont see why they wouldnt want to do these things. Maybe retire a player a game to draw some fans.

Based on the previews that was the part I couldnt understand. Wouldnt people just rather have watched 1-2 hours of a huge navy battle between 2 sides (Us v aliens, whatever)?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 18, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) Sheeple = you wonderful people who will ultimately vote for Barack Obama blindly because you don't give a damn where the country goes as long as everyone is "equal" and the marxist/socialistic reforms that are gradually making us more like Europe every day continues. You know, "for the little people". Your freedoms are being taken from you every day, yet you want more of it. There you go, sheeple. If the shoe fits, wear it. If not, go back to blindly giving away your life to your government, you know, for fairness and all. As was it was said: Bah bah black sheep, have you any wool? Read your Nietzsche and get back to me on who he would consider sheep. Check out Genealogy of Morals, Beyond Good and Evil and The Twilight of Idols. Its just tiresome to read Nietzsche brutalized by you, at least just come up with a new term if your going to steal his ideas and not actually understand them, maybe goats? That way you arent just parroting another author's ideas incorrectly.

Man, someone should go back and tell 21 year old me I should have grown up, because that was almost 10 years ago, and every once in a while my friends and I go crazy. That being said, Im not stupid enough to put my name on my back as a famous athlete and publicize my stupidity. I dont even have a facebook profile just so that its much harder for random people to find out what Im doing. He just needs to be less visible because hes already got a rep.

I cant even comprehend the post, I think hes going Tracy Morgan 30 Rock with his comedy.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 18, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) For those of you that played outfield, regardless of sunglasses and mitt, you know that if the ball goes into the sun on the way down, you're f***ed. That's the worst. Yep, sometimes you are just f***ed regardless.

Yeah would have been great for Wisconsin, but obviously Miami had an edge. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) OTOH, Facebook made use of a technique arranged by Goldman Sachs to include far more than the legal 500 investors before it ever became publicly available. And a great many insiders got to buy in early through those kind of connections. ? The article says that Goldman Sachs wasnt able to do it with US investors. "Goldman Sachs concluded that the level of media attention might not be consistent with the proper completion of a US private placement under US law. The decision not to proceed in the US was based on the sole judgment of Goldman Sachs and was not required or requested by any other party. We regret the consequences of this decision, but Goldman Sachs believes this is the most prudent path to take," the bank said in a statement." So it looks like they tried to circumvent the US rules, but ultimately did not. Bono is a foreign investor.

Balta, If your referring to accredited investors, etc, those rules are in theory to protect the little guy from bad investments and scams. Nothing is perfect.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) $42.05 first official print. 82 million shares traded in first 30 second. Heavy selling imbalance is what pushed open back. Now we are under that at about $41 Yep seems every is hitting the sell hard because its consistently dropping and its hard to imagine another wave of huge buying.
