QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) On another note: Via Powerlineblog: NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, run by global warming alarmist James Hansen, has been a chief source of "data" to support climate hysteria. Repeatedly, though, GISS data have been shown to be flawed, if not fraudulent. Now, it's happened again: A surreal scientific blunder last week raised a huge question mark about the temperature records that underpin the worldwide alarm over global warming. On Monday, Nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore's chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record. This was startling. Across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China's official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its "worst snowstorm ever". In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years. So what explained the anomaly? GISS's computerised temperature maps seemed to show readings across a large part of Russia had been up to 10 degrees higher than normal. But when expert readers of the two leading warming-sceptic blogs, Watts Up With That and Climate Audit, began detailed analysis of the GISS data they made an astonishing discovery. The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running. The error was so glaring that when it was reported on the two blogs - run by the US meteorologist Anthony Watts and Steve McIntyre, the Canadian computer analyst who won fame for his expert debunking of the notorious "hockey stick" graph - GISS began hastily revising its figures. This only made the confusion worse because, to compensate for the lowered temperatures in Russia, GISS claimed to have discovered a new "hotspot" in the Arctic - in a month when satellite images were showing Arctic sea-ice recovering so fast from its summer melt that three weeks ago it was 30 per cent more extensive than at the same time last year. A GISS spokesman lamely explained that the reason for the error in the Russian figures was that they were obtained from another body, and that GISS did not have resources to exercise proper quality control over the data it was supplied with. This is an astonishing admission: the figures published by Dr Hansen's institute are not only one of the four data sets that the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) relies on to promote its case for global warming, but they are the most widely quoted, since they consistently show higher temperatures than the others. As the scientific evidence continues to accumulate, it becomes increasingly clear that "global warming" hysteria is based on a combination of bad science and fraud. http://www.dailytech.com/Sea+Ice+Growing+a...rticle13385.htm I would like to ask Big Al for comments. the episode basically ended where the pilot started (we see Peter getting out of Mohinder's cab and HRG getting in). All episode you saw Elle and HRG as partners. I call bulls--t. Not only did we see the Jamacian with HRG from the beginning but in season 2 in a conversation with her father.. Elle whined about not being allowed out in the field and says she hasn't been out of the Primatech compound in 'years'. Now we are to believe that she was helping 'Gabriel'???????? Second....in the first season one of the pirmary mysteries was who exactly was Linderman and what is he up to. Nathan didn’t know Linderman in season one. It was the f---ing lynchpin to the season, especially the end game. Now we're to believe not only did he know about Linderman but he knew Linderman was friends with his parents and showed up at parties????????? there was one or two other things but those are the main two that jumped out at me.

2 episodes left of the Shield.....to me they still have a lot to wrap up so I hope I'm not disappointed in the ending. Last episode of Heroes really screwed the pooch storyline wise. I don't even follow it as closely as some sci-fi fans do but i caught a few big problems to me. Still happy Burn Notice is not waiting for the summer but coming back in January. Bruce Campbell rules!!!

Well...i was really digging the show but i guess Christian Slater will be looking for another job.... NBC has pulled the plug on freshman tentpole drama "My Own Worst Enemy" and returning sophomore series "Lipstick Jungle," sources say. The cancellation comes after both shows dropped to new lows in the ratings in recent weeks, with the Christian Slater action series sinking to a 1.8 among adults 18-49 (4.3 million viewers) on Monday night and "Lipstick" falling to a 1.2 (3.3 million viewers) on Friday. I really wish NBC or someone else would give "My own Worst Enemy" a shot. I love the premise and quite honestly, it's the first thing I can think of where I've liked Slaters work.

Hey juddling, if you were mad about the tables on the sand volleyball court, then you will be really pissed when you see it now. Its all paved over in concrete with a stage in the backside I'm not too surprised i guess...when the vollyball courts were full we weren't drinking alot. None of us back then did when we played. i guess if they get a band back there then there would be alot more drinking. man....time sucks...lol. What bars are even around there anymore. I remember the Tap, T-Birds,Frankies, Stix, Sidetracks, Pinch Penny....not that i went to all of these places. Though did get thrown out of the Tap my only time there.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) LaRomas is long gone, last time I was in Carbondale it was replaced by some youth ministry. I miss LaRomas too, during the 2000 Halloween riots I camped out in their little beer garden and watched the chaos with 3 dollar 32 oz beers all night. Then I got a drinking ticket for being dumb Winstons Bagels is awesome. I am pretty sure Winston passed away in the past year, sadly. R.I.P Winston and LaRoma's I havne't been back down there in at least 10 years. Last itme i was there it was summer time and i couldn't believe that Sidetracks had tables set up on their sand volleyball court. i said "WTF!!!!" I spent whole summers playing ball there and managed to win a league or two there as well. SIGH!!! I miss the good ol' days

A friend and i were talking about the good ol' college days the other day and i realized how much i miss LaRoma's Pizza and Booby's sandwiches. (If you go to SIU, you know what I'm talking about) and a toasted bagel with apple slices, cinnamon and cream cheese were good too.

I wouldn't mind seeing Christian and Jericho lock up again. At the very least, the interviews and smack talk would be the best. I think those two are two of the best when it comes to mic skills. let them both go at it as heels for a while and then maybe have one turn. though I'm not sure which I'd rather see? I think i'd rather see Jericho turn face brfore Christian

While watching her favorite team, the Blackhawks, play at the United Center on Monday, Marguerite Kuhlman collapsed and later died. Patricia and Dorothea Kuhlman said that even more peculiar than the death of their sister, 68, at the hockey game is the fact that their mother died under similar circumstances nearly 22 years ago. Mildred Kuhlman died March 30, 1986, while attending a Blackhawks game at Chicago Stadium, Patricia Kuhlman said. "We've been hockey fans for many, many years," Patricia Kuhlman said. "People laugh at us because we're old ladies who like to go to hockey games." The sisters—who own season tickets just 15 rows off the ice—were all scheduled to attend the game Monday. But the two older Kuhlman sisters instead had to attend a meeting of election judges, and Marguerite Kuhlman went to the game with a neighbor. Dorothea Kuhlman said the neighbor told them that during the game Marguerite Kuhlman slumped over in her seat and emergency officials were called. She was taken to Rush University Medical Center, where she died at 8:25 p.m. On Tuesday, the medical examiner's office said she died of heart disease.

More King of the Hill news.....well...maybe a rumor ....... There's an outside chance that Fox's canceled veteran animated series "King of the Hill" could reign again. Sources say ABC, which is rolling out midseason animated comedy “The Goode Family” -- from “King” co-creator Mike Judge -- is eyeing the veteran Fox toon. A spokesman for producer 20th Century Fox TV would only confirm "another network is interested" in the show. ABC had no comment and, to be clear, this is still the discussion phase. At a time when shows are being renewed while earning modest 2.4 adult demo ratings, the current 13th season of “King” is averaging a 3.4 -- nearly as much as CBS’ breakout freshman drama “The Mentalist.” Sunday's edition, boosted by "The Simpsons" annual Halloween episode, hit a season high. While a possible pairing of “King” and “Goode” would make a lot of sense for ABC as animated shows perform best when partnered with other animated shows, creating a Judge block could be logistically difficult. “King” takes nine months to produce new episodes due to the animation work involved. So while “Goode” is slated for midseason, “King” wouldn't be ready until next fall. If ABC orders “King” and “Goode” flops … the network is left with an expensive half-hour animated show next fall with no partner. Plus, ABC wouldn't want its "King" to air at the same time as Fox's "King." One source hinted the network might just opt for a script order -- which would getting the ball rolling on another "King" season, while leaving the network time to test "Goode" on the air. Another option for "Hill" is to move to cable. But between cost of the show's animation and voice talent, “King” is considered pricey and likely too rich for a small network, such as Adult Swim. If ABC were to pick up the show, it would mark the second series to change broadcast networks in the past year -- the first being "Scrubs" move from NBC to ABC. ABC also expressed interest in CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine" when the show was on the bubble last year. All three titles are half-hour shows, a format the network has had some difficulty programming.

There are skilled locksmiths out there that can reproduce a key from high-resolution images, but new software developed by computer scientists at UC San Diego has simplified the process to a frightening degree. In fact, their "Sneakey" system can reproduce a key with only a grainy cellphone image or, in one case, a picture taken from 200 feet away with a five-inch telephoto lens. “The program is simple. You have to click on the photo to tell it where the top of the key is, and a few other control points. From here, it normalizes the key’s size and position. Since each pixel then corresponds to a set distance, it can accurately guess the height of each of the key cuts,” explained Benjamin Laxton, the first author on the paper who recently earned his Master’s degree in computer science from UC San Diego. The researchers have not released their code to the public, but they claim that anyone with a decent working knowledge of MatLab and computer vision techniques could create a similar system without much difficulty. Their suggestion: treat your keys like you would a credit card. Link

i guess bowling can be bad for your health..... RAVENNA (WZZM) - It took 62-year old Don Doane decades to bowl his first ever perfect game. Moments after he finally did it, he collapsed and died. It happened October 16 at Ravenna Bowl. Doane had just bowled his final strike and was being congratulated by friends when he collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack.

For those who care about such things...Fox just announced it's not bringing back King of the Hill. I never really watched it until it started showing up in syndication but i thought it was an ok show. I guess Mike Judge has a new animated show coming on Fox.

you know...i guess it's one thing if you're superstar making 10's of millions but if you are a career reserve (though on 2 Bulls championship teams) you should probably spend $20 and buy the big box of condoms... Unless you were a superfan of the Bulls championship run during the 90s or one of eight women who bore any of his 10 children, the name Jason Caffey probably doesn't ring a bell. Caffey won two championships with the Bulls as a reserve power forward, but oh how times have changed. As my grandmother used to say, "Where there is laughter soon will be tears." Most recently, the AP is reporting that Caffey cannot file for bankruptcy, which opens the door for the eight mothers of his 10 children to sue him for child support. This isn't the first of Caffey's legal woes, which include an assault charge in 2005 for rendering a male stripper, "too emotional to strip," according to Deadspin. Earlier this month, Caffey granted an interview to WKRG in Mobile, Ala. shortly after serving an eight-day jail sentence for failure to pay child support for one of his kids. His explanation included: "It's never that I didn't send child support it's just that I didn't send the amount that was said to be sent by the courts."
