QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You lose points for not having "WICKED AWESOME!!!!!". Through half a season one has blown 3 saves and the other has only blown 1, I never said BJ was dramatically better but he has done a better job at closing out games. Well Papelbon has done a better job overall, as you said. I guess I'm missing what we're arguing about.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> G IP SV SVO H R ER HR HBP BB SO SLG OBA Papelbon: 40 46 26 29 25 3 3 2 1 8 47 .224 .200 Ryan: 39 42.2 24 25 21 4 4 0 0 9 54 .162 .197 I'd say it's just about a toss-up as to who the better pitcher has been overall but when it comes to doing what a closer is expected to do (close games) BJ Ryan takes the cake. How does he take the cake? One player 26/29, another 24/25... That is far from being dramatically 'better.'

What about Jaret Wright?

What wasn't accurate about the statistics that I listed? Papelbon has been better than Ryan this year. Regardless, both should be considered for the award. Again, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just to set the record straight here, Papelbon does in fact have 3 blown saves, not 2. TEX, PHI and CHW all blown saves. I'm not sure where this 2 BLSV thing is comming from. It is true though that BJ Ryan only has 1. Correct. So if anyone posted faulty statistics, it was Rock, not me.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I'm only telling you what I heard from Steinbrenner's nephew, who I met at Walgreens earlier. Well I heard from Brian Cashman's sister's daughters friend of a friend, who I met at Dominick's earlier, that it was for Griffey, not Arroyo.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think he's only done bad his last two starts. Which is why he isn't going anywhere. The Reds will be buyers, not sellers at the deadline, atleast in my opinion.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bronson Arroyo. I find it hard to believe that Arroyo would be involved. He hasn't performed like he did at the beginning of the year as of late, but he's signed relatively cheaply for the next three years.

I can't imagine it being anyone other than Griffey..

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Liriano is 10-1 with the AL triple crown (ERA/WHIP/BAA). He's blowing Papelbon right out of the motherf***ing water. It ain't even close. That is why I said he is not even in the discussion, and anyone who thinks otherwise just doesn't know their baseball too well, quite frankly. Okay, then who will? Johan Santana? It's a two man race. I can't see where Halladay enters the discussion, either. If you really examine the numbers (BAA, WHIP, Strikeouts, etc), he can't even begin to f*** with Liriano or Santana. Anyone who knew there baseball would know that Papelbon, Ryan, Jenks or any reliever for that matter don't qualify for this "triple crown" you speak of. Statistics: WHIP/BAA/ERA Papelbon: .72/.155 /.59 Liriano: .97/.201/1.83 So I don't have a clue as to what you are talking about and I don't think you do either. Perhaps you're of the opinion that relievers cannot win the Cy Young, but you've yet to say that. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have some serious man love for Doc Halladay and his Super Sinker of Doom Who doesn't have a man crush on Halladay?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I doubt all the MVP voters sit around and go damn, Hafner is great in VORP. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> BJ Ryan is right there with him and has 2 less blown saves, why don't you include him in this? Johan Santana, Francisco Liriano and Roy Halladay are the 3 names right now that I'd put up there for midseason Cy Young. I included Liriano in there with Papelbon on purpose.
-
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mr. Brantley, is that you? There ain't no f***ing Papelbon in this discussion, chief. If the season ended today, He'd win one of the two, if not both. He's been the best reliever in baseball, period.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not quite. It's closer than you think, Fenway is ridiculously priced. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was kinda sorta joking. I'm 20, in college, and broke. I ain't paying 3 times face value for tickets. I don't even park in the lots because they cost 18 bucks. I have my own parking spot. I parked yesterday in the ITT lots, and we were still charged 18 dollars. I was shocked at how far away we were and the fact we were paying full price for parking, even if there were shuttle buses.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Despite being a Red Sox fan, you should be able to admit that Manny is a tool because Manny is a tool. Manny's done a lot of good for the game of baseball, and is the most popular player in the game. If you don't like him, that's fine. -
Three times face value at the Cell, plus a plane ticket both ways, isn't much more expensive than parking and seeing a game from the lower level. It makes sense to pay that fare, to come to one of the best cities in the world, and watch your team play in one of the premier parks. It just does.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 06:58 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From the Trib: While manager Ozzie Guillen won't make a final decision until Monday, he's leaning toward starting White Sox right fielder Jermaine Dye in place of Manny Ramirez in Tuesday's All-Star Game. Ramirez, Boston's elected starter, is skipping the game with a sore right knee, which didn't prevent him from playing 19 innings Sunday. I hope Dye gets the start but what a tool Manny is. Plays 19 innings but is apparently injured. Yes, a player is a tool for opting not to play in an exhibition game when he's been playing on a sore knee all season. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was at the game Friday, and while there were a lot of Red Sox fans there, it was probably around 5000-6000. I would imagine it was the same the other 2 games. It's interesting that Farmer and Singleton would even debate it if was only 5-6 thousand. You're probably right though, as someone who went to both saturday and sunday's games.

It seemed a little far fetched to me, but if you listened to the pregame show yesterday as I did on my way to the park, it was a topic of discussion.
