QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Well I thought I proved he wasnt when I listed his defensive stats and he wasnt really top ten in the AL in CF. Or when we compared their offensive numbers he wasnt top three in the AL. But I guess you are the law above and beyond what happens during actual play. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> coco crisps .810 ops would be good for second highest in the american league amonst centerfielders. you're over analyzing, and along with ssh trying to argue something that is nothing. if you think coco crisp wouldnt be a top centerfielder, then by all means think that.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) And I'm sure you've seen enough of Coco Crisp playing CF, right? I doubt it and here's my proof... You mentioned that you are sick and tired of seeing players run on Johnny Damon's arm but you seem to think that Coco Crisp's arm will be a major improvement. If you saw Coco Crisp playing defense, you would know that his arm sucks. Hilarious. If you didn't know that Crisp has a sucky arm, how the hell are we supposed to believe that you know that Crisp plays good defense in CF? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yes, i said coco crisps arm would be a major improvement blasphemy - stop putting words in my mouth.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) Well, would it be ok for us to compare their numbers defensively in CF to see who is better? Or are we just going on your gut feeling as proof? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> you can do whatever you would like.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Ummm now you are changing the argument to offense? I thought we were talking about defensive ability? And defensively, PODS and Crisp are about as similar as it gets statistically. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> you were the one who assumed that i was referring to defensive ability, and this isn't an argument. coco crisp is a top of the line centerfielder, no ifs ands or buts about it. period. end of story. capiche?
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Last year, Damon was better in CF and career-wise he is better in CF than Crisp. I'm just using stats to back up my statements because I have never seen enough of both of them playing CF. But you are using Crisp's defensive stats in LF to prove that he is a great defensive CF. That's completely ignorant. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i have seen enough of johnny damon in centerfield to know who i'd rather want manning the position at fenway, and that person is coco crisp. i'm not doing any such thing, by the way, but continue putting words in my mouth. its what i expect of you.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Here is where you said that. Well considering I put up his stats in CF last year and they werent even in the top ten in the AL. As well as his stats in CF from 2004. On top of that, his stats in LF are the same as PODS, which means that you would think PODS would also be the best CF in the AL. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> if there was no grady sizemore, and crisp would have played centerfield, the position he's played a good portion of his entire career, crisps 300-345-465 season last year in left would translate into being one of the most productive centerfielders in baseball. there is no reason to pick apart what i said, especially in this instance. also, im not going to get into silly arguments about coco crisp and scott podsednik because they aren't very similar players nor do i care about proving something so irrelvant.
-
wite, i respect your opinion, i just dont happen to agree with it. excellent post though, especially considering how used i am to people like ssh who can't form a sentence.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) Ummm, no? please, pal, enough. Leave your homerism at the door. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> you think johnny damon is a better defensive centerfielder than coco crisp? please tell me this is not what your saying. haha
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Best centerfielder? Andruw Jones hammered the ball last year and we all know he's a stud defensively. Don't be so quick to assume that Crisp is going to be this amazing CFer defensively. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i specified the american league, and im not assuming crisp is going to be amazing defensively, thats not what i said. i did say crisp is a better defensive centerfielder than damon is.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) So you think he is the best defensive CF'er in the AL as well? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> where did i say he was the best defensive outfielder in baseball? that was jeremy reed. i did however say that crisp was head and shoulders above damon defensively, but maybes thats just because im sick of seeing guys like paul konerko run from first to third on his noodle arm.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) Crisp's offense would be great from CF but he has to prove he can play good defense as a full-time center fielder. I don't know much about Crisp's defense in CF but I seem to remember that he has a weak arm. And judging by his FPCT, RF, and ZR, he looks like a pretty big defensive downgrade in CF from Damon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> defensive ability in centerfield: crisp>damon please, pal, enough.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) I know that all things that become RedSox immediately get the golden blessing from all baseball gods, but slow down the perennial all-star predictions. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> his season last year, translated into the centerfield position, would have netted him as the best centerfielder in the american league. i never labeled him a perennial all-star, i said there is a chance, just like there is that same chance for marte. the point is, if you would have actually taken a minute or two to read the goddamn thread, there are people in here who dont think crisp is the best player involved in this nondeal. im with kalapse, many people on this board are comical.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) I'd just like to thank the few of you that knew what I was doing when I posted that. I'd also like to thank the rest of you for proving my hypothesis correct. All I had to do was type one sentence and suddenly it turns into a heated argument of which we already had months ago. You are all dumb. Thank you. EDIT: I'm thinking about deleting this post about ten minutes from now, getting off Soxtalk and comming back on tommorrow morning to read the 32 page thread that will have grown off my comment. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> there are some uninformed people on this board, what else do you expect? ha
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) Prediction: If the trade goes through, Coco Crisp will be the greatest thing since sliced bread. OR If the trade doesn't go through, Andy Marte will be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Which will it be? Only time will tell. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> your presence in this thread is... appreciated. what was the greatest thing before sliced bread?

Mark Buehrle doesn't dominant opposing teams? this is the same Mark Buehrle who completes games in record times, pitches six innings or more every time out on the mound, and has been atop the rankings in whatever metric you use among major league starting pitchers? Mark Buehrle is an ace.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) Does Coco also s*** gold? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no, despite his inhumane baseball skills, he's all human. *cough*not funny*cough*
-
coco crisp was rated the best defensive left fielder in the game last season according to hardball times metrics, and his statistics translated to the centerfield position show just how good this youngster is. not only is he the best player involved in this trade, with the way his offseason training regimen is going, he might be one of the upincoming perennial all-stars in this league at the leadoff position. again though, as i've been saying all along, there is no deal as of right now, and nothing is done until it is done.

QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) Even they have suspect pitching. Their offense/defense is over the top and should lead them to the playoffs, but I question the depth of their staff and bullpen. Toronto needs to jell as a team before anyone is going to jump on that wagon, but you have to think they will give that division some fits. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> so if not the red sox, yankees or jays who wins the al east? i also love how the red sox rotation is suspect. usually you say that when five mediocre players are apart of it. curt schilling and josh beckett are far from mediocre, wells and wake were both above average last year, and clement, arroyo, papelbon are more options. again though, answer my original question.
-
i liked the red sox taking a flyer on him last year, and he actually lived down the street from my dad. i've always liked wade miller, i wish him all the best.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) It alread says Bi-sox-ual which was the name that a large group of cubs fans took as their rallying cry when rooting for the white sox in the playoffs this year. Siding with cubs fans is bad enough. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> is that true? i could've sworn one of the creative people on this website created it for me..
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Half-way there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hense why i've been more active on non-white sox rumors as of late as opposed to white sox related rumors. the white sox offseason has been done for some time.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) A few quick thoughts: - Coco Crisp is a very good player, and he'll help the Red Sox a lot more than people think. - Seanez will be a big contributor for the Red Sox because he's mostly pitched in the NL during his career. He can strikeout a ton of guys, and since most haven't seen his pitches yet, he'll be pretty effective (of course, his chances of staying healthy rival that of Kerry Wood). - MLB scouts think that the Red Sox might be one of the teams most effected by the crackdown on greenies. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> seanez has been in pretty much every major league locker room in his career, and was a red sox two years ago. he was effected majorly by pitching in a pitchers park, he'll be the john halama of next season (gone by july).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Maybe if you didnt talk about the redsox more often than you do the whitesox people wouldnt get annoyed so much..... incase you havent noticed this is a whitesox board afterall. Oh and im sorry the only bigger homer for his team on this board besides you is WSJ. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> stop derailing threads. get this back on topic.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) Just offering some insight on the guy you think is an embarassment. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> its hard to see the good things he does when all i see is him bashing me for happening to like the johnny damon signing, or this willie harris invite to spring training. your opinion however is valued, and will be taken into considering. thanks.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) Fair enough. I was just trying to sum up why some people are annoyed with your postings on here. However, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I know the best thing that happened to me on this site was when some people voiced their displeasures with my posting style. It taught me to lighten up a bit, and to realize that, for the most part, we're all WHITE Sox fans on this site. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> people are annoyed with how i post because i've liked the majority of moves/nonmoves the red sox have made this offseason (minus the seanez signing). if the red sox throw the house at coco crisp, i'll fault the fact that jeremy reed could have been had cheaper, or that dave roberts could have been a stop gap for a year or two while ellsbury grew but i'll still be ridiculed for being bias towards every move the red sox make. oh well, i dont mind.
