QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 06:46 PM) Ben Gordon won 6th man and didn't win the ROY which is a semi-similar situation. Writers like to sort of split their votes like that and am surprised they didn't do that with Ichiro MVP and 6th man is a little different .... in that case it would be like Gordon winning MVP but not RoY.
-
Didnt Ichiro win MVP that year 2? Thats probably why they gave it to him how can you best the best player in the AL but not the best rookie

US Senate Resolution to honor Shoeless Joe Jackson

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 04:46 AM) Random Fact of the Day: Babe Ruth, en route to the greatest sports career ever, copied Shoeless Joe's swing. Why dont you read a little bit of the info on the 1st page of the thread? -
QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 03:57 AM) The debate is if you could choose one or the other to leadoff for your team, who would you choose? Than its obviously Podsenick. If your asking who the better leadoff hitter is... if your asking for the better hitter than its Sizemore.
-
No in the end he could be a super-star.... its not at the end yet
-
I like Dye but if we get Griffey and keep Rowand.... why not just move Rowand to RF that way he can cover a lot of ground and make up for Griffey's lack of range like Rowand is making up for Dye's lack of range.
-
I dont think the debate is whose better Podsenick or Sizemore its whose the better leadoff man... and simply put if they were on the same team Podsenick would bat leadoff and Sizemore 2nd....
-
Well I think you can evaluate fairly after 1 season because the point for the Cardinals was to help win them a WS now and sacrafice a little bit of the future. Now next year the Cardinals are going to be w/out Walker and its iffy on Rolens future. Not 2 mention that Edmonds is starting to get up there and age and he didnt exactly have that great of a season this year. Also Sanders is nearing the end of his career as well. Next year they are going to be a worse team and than after that they are going to have to semi-rebuild.

Vlad can be the everyday RF and if anything they should just unload Finley to the Red Sox and than either Anderson or Rivera or something can play CF while the other plays LF. Imagine this though Figgins Cabrera Vlad Manny Anderson Molina Rivera Kotchman Kennedy If you ask me thats one hell of a lineup and could take them places... although they might lose Molina to F/A so that could change things but still.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) He gave them a pitcher with a better chance to winin October. He was great against eh Padres, he was excellent against the Astros in the gaem 2 loss and he was weak against them in Game 6. The move for Mulder didn't result in a ring but it gave them a better chance than they had with last year's rotation. If you don't recognize that, you haven't followed the team enough the last few years Well 1 even though they were in the playoffs the Padres are hardly a "playoff team" they shouldnt of been there with that record they had it was an embarassment to baseball. Than they needed him to come through in game 6 and he failed so if anything the trade failed. They didnt trade for him to get a better chance they traded for him to win it all and they didnt so they failed and the trade was bad by your way of thinking.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) Is that the show with Jim Belushi? The show with Nikki Cox and thats all that matters... and Geoffrey Pierson was hilarious with his stuffed animal in the basement and everything.
-
Yes the Cardinals were in the playoffs but they would of been there w/out Mulder too so how is that even a solid argument regarding the trade?

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Ok, well, that team's payroll would be marginally higher than this year's and Pauly will never sign a 2-year deal and Griffey is not a FA, he would have to be traded for... That being said, adding a LH'd .300-35-100 hitter to the #3 hole who would lead the team in OBP and OPS to what we already have in place of Rowand is not an improvement? Wow, you've been listening to Hawk too much or you just forgot to take your meds... one or the other... I laugh after all your posts keep them up

Well he had a great career but me not being a big Cardinal fan im glad he is gone.... although if Rolen comes back next year healthy their offense wont miss a beat.
-
Yeah the good thing is we hit fastball pitchers a lot better than soft tossers and Minuet Maid park definitely benefits us with that LF. The funny thing is while both of them have been the faces of their franchise for so long both Frank Thomas and Bagwell wont be factors.... Bagwell might play DH but he is hardly the hitter he was b4.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 04:01 AM) Which, conveniently, is the year that Jermaine Dye's contract will only have a team option for. Well we are getting ahead of ourselves here though... its not even a sure thing 1 of these guys makes it and lasts in the big leagues.... although watching all 4 of them Anderson, Young, Sweeney, and Owens is for sure exciting. One guy im hoping takes a big step next season is that Sanchez guy we have in rookie ball. I remember hearing a lot of great things about him early in the season but he kind of sucked during the season.

Aparicio, Jackson to throw first pitches

I like both of those guys so its all good. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) Fair enough. The difference b/w Young and Owens though, is that Young has a lot more tools than Owens. If Owens was 28 and he did this in his 2nd year of baseball, would people still think of him as the same prospect? I know Scott Podsednik came out of the blue, but it's not really the norm. I just want to see how Owens does in Charlotte next season in a smaller ballpark before he automatically becomes our next leadoff hitter. He may not even get a spot in our OF with Anderson, Sweeney and Young around. It's a very muddled picture right now. Well I think Sweeney could use 2 more years in the minors while if they keep up the current rate that they are on Owens and Young should make a case for the team in 2007.

He is such an overated pitcher... has some nasty stuff but he has no clue how to use it and supposedly is a cancer in the clubhouse too.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) I'm in the same mindset as you. f*** her, I don't give a s*** if her writing is smart, witty and funny, I don't have to appreciate it for those reasons. She wants to call them the b****sox good for her why the f*** should I applaud her? She can have fun watching her s*** team fall even further next year. Dont you see thats just the point... than we can all laugh at what she says even more

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) And never got as far as we have. No but until this season they owned us is what im saying and she shouldnt be taken seriously anyways

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) There's a thread on here somewhere about her. And I'll say it again: f*** her and her 3rd place team. she acts like it's some kind of high honor that she controlled her stupid "insult" for 5 seconds after the Sox slapped her team around. You take it 2 serious what she writes is dumb and childish which makes it all the more fun for us to read... and they did win the division 3 times in a row so...
