QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) Hopefully they give El Duque a chance still. I would also like to see him in the postseason. I mean, that's the whole reason we got him. El Duque has proven to be a stopper in the playoffs throughout his career. The only thing he stopped this year is our winning streaks

QUOTE(SnB @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) i'm so glad this isn't my job, this is some tough stuff to decide. but as some already said. marte? viz? i'd rather have duque on than either of those 2 guys. Idonno about Vizcaino.... Month: Era: April 7.43 May 5.23 June 2.25 July 1.20 August 3.48 Sept. 2.57 After the first 2 months Id say he has been a pretty damn good reliever.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 04:40 AM) :notworthy :notworthy Also, don't want to bring this article down but for anyone who didn't think Magglio was a jag--there ya go. Well Maggz isnt as tied to the organization as Frank is and now he is on a rival team so whats wrong with that. He did say he was happy for some people which says he had friends here he cared about. -

I hope we play all backups tommorow and dont use guys in the bullpen that we will need for the playoffs. Sunday maybe play some starters so they can get some ab's b4 the playoffs and still be rested. -
Im happy its going to be banned from restaurants and bowling alleys because those are family places and we shouldnt have to deal with the smoking. I dont see while it has to be banned from bars but I guess since I dont smoke its all good for me.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/arti...f_tie_breakers/ This article neglected the fact that there is only a 1 gm playoff to decide a division when the front runner for the WC finishes with a better record than the two divisional opponents. The reason being is that the loser of that 1 gm playoff goes home. They do not have a chance at the WC. The CWS eliminated that possibility & that is why they clinched the ALC on Thurs. With that being said a better source is needed for a 3-way tie. Its been said on here a lot and on ESPN if all the teams finish with a tie. First Redsox/Yankees play for division than the loser plays the Tribe.

Yeah i agree with the idea of putting the crap lineups and putting Buehrle and Garland on short leashes the first 2 days than the last game get the starters in there so they can get some ab's and still be fresh for the playoffs and Brandon is starting so he can go as long as we need him to go. First 2 games though would be nice to give Buehrle 5-6 innings and than El Duque finnish the rest than the 2nd game have baj, sanders, viz finish it off rest the bullpen.

The reason when the fan hit Podsenick and in this case with newhan didnt get the attention because the players didnt react. Sheffield had to go make a huge deal out of it which made it a bigger deal than it really was. Also when its Yanks/Red Sox opening series of the season a lot of people were watching so it was under national spotlight.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) i get your point but that to me is no loyalty. a journeyman at best. look i had lunch with that cat in SD a long time ago. he is a great guy. but to me he didn't say jack about the sox back then so that has always burned me about him. i told him i was a diehard soxfan and he hardly cared. of course at that time he was a padre. but that still doesn't help me with his BORING monotone color? sorry to say that i wouldn't miss him a bit if he were to be replaced. Look at it this way... by playing for the sox for 2 seasons and being their announcer now. He has more ties to the team than you or me will ever have.

Can we buy those AL Central Champion shirts?

Even though it was a long time ago the Garland pitch to Tejada is still my favorite moment of the season. He threw him a change up inside and tejada totally missed it. Also I dont care if it was last season I still remember the Loaiza Angels game when willie ran over franky rodriguez and Timo hit the game winning hit.
-
Yeah his avg. was on the low side but man just seeing him in the lineup made you feel more comfortable. He is such a giant compared to the other players its crazy. I wish I wated the sox more in the 90's when he was at his best but I still will have many memories of 35.

Ryan Howard hasnt been up for a lot of the season so you cant really blame him for falling short of the RBI mark.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 03:30 AM) It's always been said that the Count has the best "stuff" on our staff, it was just a mental block holding him back. So now that he's unblocked his mind and is pitching with his stuff, how is MB still the best pitcher on this team? History? The Count didn't start a bidding war between BOS and NYY for the hell of it, the guy has always had TRUE ACE stuff, now we're finally seeing what he can do with it. I didnt say Mark has the better stuff I said Mark is our best pitcher and I still stand by that even though he has had a bad 2nd half. But like I said Contreras earned it and its setup pefectly for him to pitch game 1.

Lol just noticed Grilli is pitching tommorow we better beat that guy lol.

If the Sox win tommorow they clinch AL Central
GoodAsGould replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ok so its all clear now. Win tommorow and we are going to the playoffs no matter what. The Tribe if sweep us would be a tie assuming we both win tommorow. That would put us both at 96 wins. One team in the East will only be able to get a max of 95 wins so win tommorow and the "choke" is over. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...t=.jsp&c_id=mlb Read that. Its updated. DEFINITIVE Next Monday (Oct. 3), the Indians would host the White Sox unless those two teams finish with the best records in the AL. In that case, there wouldn't be a playoff game. Both teams would make the playoffs, and the first-place team is determined by the two teams' head-to-head record. As of Tuesday, the White Sox led the season series, 11-5, and are guaranteed of the better record. Thats the scenario Im hoping turns out. Win tommorow than rest the starters really for the Tribe series. Guys are looking tired out there and could all use a break. Just hope to god that we do win tommorow. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) I don't think he'll turn it around. You can't assume that. He's had the whole 2nd half to turn it around and he's gone backwards. He's showed he sucks in high pressure situations and he gives up a lot of hits to good hitting ball clubs. In the playoffs, he'll equal Odalis Perez of last year. Well really it doesnt matter what you think because more likely than not Ozzie is going to put Buehrle as the number 2 pitcher and even if it was against a bad offense he did just pitch a complete game. And its not like Freddy or Jon have pitched good enough to earn the spots b4 him.

If the Sox win tommorow they clinch AL Central
GoodAsGould replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So im a little confused. I got this for sure Assuming the wildcard goes to the AL East than we will have a 1 game playoff match vs the Tribe to see who wins the division. Now what is the scenario if we are tied with the Tribe for the division and wildcard. Do we than get the division crown and the tribe the wildcard because of the head to head or do we still do the 1 game playoff. If its scenario 2 that would suck for both teams. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) Contreras - Garland - Garcia - Buehrle I don't start Buehrle. It's the playoffs. He's been doing the worse out of the 4 so he gets put in the 4 spot. It's not about respect in the playoffs, it's about giving your team the best chance to win. Buehrle doesn't do that for the Sox. He gives up a lot of hits and that doesn't bold well in the AL playoffs considering all the teams will hurt you if you do that. He is still our best pitcher and you got to believe he will shape up when playoffs start. That being said not only has he earned it but its setup perfect for Contreras to pitch game 1 already so he should get that. Contreras-Buehrle-Garcia-Garland Garcia and Garland are inter-changable really but with ozzie liking Freddy and him having more experiance than Jon thats probably the way it is.

Post on Bears message board
GoodAsGould replied to DrunkBomber's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Funniest thing about is he calls the coaches managers and said white sox have best record in the NL... Its people like these that dont belong posting on message boards. Yes not everyone is going to be a die-hard but this person doesnt have a clue and probably thinks he is very sport smart. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 04:25 AM) These pitchers would have had a lot better numbers for their starts if Ozzie would have just refrained from letting them start that one extra inning, etc. These guys have all thrown a ton of pitches this season, and most of them have been "stressful" pitches due to all the close games. And NO ONE forced Ozzie to make those guys his permanent bench players. Why has he chosen Timo over Gload? Why has he chosen Marte over Cotts for late game situations? Why did he choose Duque over McCarthy for about 3 starts too long? You are so full of crap all the time.... Yes they pitched a lot but Buehrle pitched like 14 more innings last year and never had the late season meltdown and has always been a workhorse. Jon Garland is at 214 IP and he had 217 last year and while he was never as good he never started playing more s***ty the 2nd half because of all his innings. Freddy Garcia is just above the norm of what he usually pitches in terms of innings but he has done more in the past than he did this year. Than Jose Contreras is having his best season yet so thats not an issue. As for Gload its been said a thousand times that he wasnt healthy enough to play the OF and it wasnt worth a roster spot to have for a backup 1B especially when Konerko doesnt miss many games. Marte is the veteran and this is Cotts first good season so he is going with the past. Im sure after Cotts great season this year Ozzie will be much more comfortable going with him in late game situations. Its funny because at the begining of the season people were b****ing when Ozzie put Cotts in close games. El Duque started the season and is a proven veteran and his main purpose was to help us in sept. to make the playoffs and than be the proven playoff pitcher. So Ozzie tried sticking with him as long as he could until he was sure it was a lost cause. Most managers will stick with their veterans as long as they can until they are 100% sure he isnt going to cut it.

Figures Fathom would make this post Ozzie is Ozzie he makes some questionable moves but this team was predicted by experts to finish 3rd or even 4th and right now we proved all them wrong. Now I know this collapse at the end is really tough and its starting to get me sick of this team but Ozzie is still new to managing and he brought us this far so Im not on the fire Ozzie bandwagon yet.
