QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) Yah, I read that on the message board. I think I'm going to check out the book before the movie, if it ever gets made. I just hope this doesn't turn into a big Bush bashing movie like Silver City, not that Silver City wasn't awesome. Actually i hate imdb's message boards for the most part. Everyone and anyone that posts there claims to have connections... rather annoying after about the 197th one that says it in 200 posts. So i just look at a whole bunch of other movie sites/message boards.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) I got this on dvd the day it came out and it has to be one of my favourite dvds, I watched it twice on that very day. Crash is easily my favorite movie of 2005 with Sin City and The Devil's Rejects trailing VERY far behind. I've seen endless complaints about how the movie tries too hard to be important, is pretentious, and has too many impossible consequences, but I can only agree with that last point. This movie takes coincidences to a whole new level not seen, even in the likes of Pulp Fiction, but I've never had a problem with film leaving the boundaries of what is I guess, considered plausible. Of course this doesn't mean I don't get mad when a bus jumps a 2 football field gap, whoa! weird Sandra Bullock coincidence. Now I've also seen people complain how the movie tries too hard to evoke emotion from the audience, so I guess some people just weren't into the characters or something because I haven't cared about a group of characters like this since Magnolia and Shawshank Redemption. And lets be honest 99.9% of filmmakers wish they could evoke half the emotion that comes pouring out of the cinematography, score and actors. I'd also like to tackle this idea that the film tried to be too important and was prententious. Most of the time filmmakers try to make a film that is important and compelling so I don't really know what the problem is here. And lets consider that Crash doesn't really even force anything upon us, Crash says that life isn't simple and neither are the characters, and you don't really know the characters and maybe you don't even know yourself. 9.9/10 Brendan Fraser seemed somewhat lacking. Jewish people are very upset that there was not a jewish character in crash... give me a f***ing break. THe whole brendan fraser/sandra bullock story was lacking as a whole to me. While we know she was not happy/depressed i would have liked to know why she was how she was more than the lame explanation they gave. Terrence howard while i heard he is a prick in real life is a fantastic actor. In the last year and a half he has been in crash, ray, hustle and flow, and lackawanna blues... all very good movies in there respective ways. Have you by chance seen him in hustle and flow? There has been some oscar buzz for his performance in it.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) That ranks as one of the most peculiar statements I've ever read on any sports message board. I actually meant he is one of our worst players on the base paths. My point still stands that he is not a very good base stealer.

Ya. That should do it...

It is rumored that daniel day lewis wants this part ( main part) and has even agreed to do it... but nothing official yet.

Ozzie calls meeting with Vets before Weds game

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) Jenks gives us the best option at the end of games. McCarthy gives us the best option in the rotation. Its called playing the hot hand. Its what most teams do. I wish that was done more when it comes to closing out games. If we have jenks out there in the 8th inning and he dominates why not put him back in to start the ninth? Especially considering hermanson's back is apparently garbage. There are three options i can see closing for us other than hermanson if needed imo. My rank of trust when closing a game goes... cotts, jenks, politte. Now i am not saying to do so every day... but ride the f***ing hot hand! -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) Sorry, one thing I should have added. Cleveland is in fact very tough right now. We should split with them oer the 6 games if we want our postseason to be anything other than ugly. But I still think we're in pretty good shape. And I do think this manager will get his team going. If he gets his head out of the sand. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) I just can't equate leading the majors in base-stealing with being a bad base-stealer. He isn't perfect, as we've all seen some of his mistakes, but overall he's far from bad, in my opinion. Will your opinion change if it jumps 1 percentage point from 74 to the more acceptable 75? No. I am more so pissed about him being so bad on the basepaths in general. He is definitely in our lower tier. One way or the other he finds a way to make an out 2-3 times a week on the base paths. If you think i am exaggerating ask around.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Nobody would mind if you did. His stolen bases percentage is right around 74%. The rule of thumb is if you cannot steal bases at a rate of 75% to 80% ( most people say 75%) that you are better off not moving at all. Formulas and lots of research has gone into it for me to believe it. That is not counting all the times he tries to stretch a single into a double or does not try and take the second baseman out hard at second. He ranks as one of are worst base stealers on the team... but no one is as pitiful as uribe. Konerko may very well be one of our top three while on the bases... rarely does he do something that he shouldn't. Maybe we should bring back valentin to teach our team how to run the bases a little better...

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) Could we have gotten Pods without giving up Caballo? I wish we had one more bat like Lee or Maggs rite now. Though I do love Posednik and his spark. The whole point of trading lee was to dump salary... so no.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) Is this sarcasm about his defense? QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Um...was there supposed to be some green in that post? I'll just assume not and respond to it... Pods is not a terrible defensive player, but he is no where near as good as he should be with his speed. While he has improved during the year, he has a reputation for getting extremely bad jumps on balls hit his direction (case in point...the ball ARow caught behind him). He also makes some poor judgement calls around the wall, case in point tonight's error. With his speed, there shouldn't be able to be a ball hit to left field that he can't get unless he's playing in left center and it's hit down the line. He should be a vacuum cleaner. But I think that you'd find almost everyone on this board in agreement if you said that ARow, who is not as fast as Pods, is a much better defender than Pods. Have i ever used green while i have been at soxtalk? I don't think it is needed when it is that obvious and when i clearly have hated podsednik from day one. Podsednik is indeed a terrible outfielder. His jumps, read, and routes to the ball are all bad. Half the time he is stumbling towards the ball because he cannot do the three things i listed correctly. His arm is also a bonafide noodle. Rowand ( with his not so accurate throwing arm this year)>>>>>>> podsednik.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) I like Jenks, but maybe even more important is his ability to be effective for 2 and 3 innings in relief. Hermy might have been rusty, I don't know. Maybe it's his back, but this is only his 2nd blown save I think. We have multiple people in the pen that go can two plus innings. So we cannot use that excuse that we need him for mutiple innings. If he was truly are closer he would be able to pitch two innings followed up by one the next. But i don't think we have to worry about that unless hermanson is eit her awful to start the year next year or is really injured.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Just cementing his reputation as a terrible defensive player. Also, anytime he wants to get a hit with the bases loaded, that would be cool with me. Podsednik is bad at defense? News to me. He is so fast he can get to everything in the field. Podsednik is a bad base stealer and bad on the base paths period? Liar! You are just a podsednik hater!

QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) FATHOM, here we go again. We scored 9 RUNS, and we had Garcia pitching against the lowly Royals. Now that we lost the game, you BLAMED Ozzie for the lost! Seriously, how old are you? Your statements are very childish! Without Ozzie, this team DEFINITELY will not be leading AL Central division right now. You want to come back to Jerry Manuel??? Please list me the positves for ozzie... i will then list the negatives. We can compare the lengths of our lists then.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) wtf are you talking about. I said I was worried about your health if you are worried about a game that doesn't matter in September. I can't imagine what will happen when they matter in October. This game doesn't matter? LOLOL.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) JP Howell, not a first rounder. Supplamental (sp?) pick, I'm 99% sure. 31st pick of the first round i believe and previously he was drafted in the second round by the baves.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) Why is Everett hitting cleanup and not someone who actually has a chance to hit something like AROW... I swear Aaron gets no respect on this time... Being buried behind has beens like Everett.... This is the lineup Ozzie needs to use... AROW 3rd, Kong Cleanup... When we were at our hottest that was the freakin' lineup most of the time... I bet it was just a coincidence though... .727 ops verse righties and .761 overall seems like a ttrey hole hitter to me... You overate your man crush to no end offensively. But i will tell you what if he keeps hitting like he has so far this month ( i like the patience he has shown) then he would be perfect in the trey hole.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Trade the hottest SP down the stretch who finally seems to have harnessed his potential, for Washburn who likely will get a 3, 4 yr deal for close to $24 mill? The sox should and probably will try to sign Garland to a 3 yr deal. Not Washburn. And the sox can use the money to get AJ signed to a similar deal. If we can trade an old, semi expensive, pitcher with one year left on his contract for someone that will be helping for years to come... i am all for it. But signing washburn who is an extreme fly ball pitcher for seven million a year to put up a 4.25 era+? He would probally give up fourty homers a season here. But that is not that bad considering milton would give up about 60 because he is such a piece of s***.

Everett is out of his mind to think he is a three hole hitter... he is also out of his mind for other reasons...

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) The love for Brandon McCarthy has been a rollercoaster ride. The "5 homers at the Cell" post still sticks in my mind to this very day. Look El Duque probably doesn't deserve another oppurtunity. But if he comes good, and can be used in the playoff, that's a big payoff. And B-Mac ain't gonna complain about his role anyway, which shows the type of person he is. You just hope this doesn't affect the Sox making October. I really hate flip floppers. In spring training mccarthy was a god and should have made the 25 man roster. Then when we put the pansy on the dl and mccarthy did just decent against the cubs he was suppose to take over hernandez's spot in the rotation. He gets smoked in three of his next four starts and he is the anti-christ and was an overated prospect. Two fantastic starts and another good outing in his ''relief'' role against the angels and he is god again. :headshake

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) If I'm not mistaken, Juan Pierre is a UFA after this season. Expect many teams, including the cuddily ones from the Northside to make serious attemps to bring him in. Every free agent is unrestricted...
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Great!@@! So Ozzie's insistence on using Duque has added about 500K to his 2005 salary, and if he gets two more starts, he'll get another 187K-- Also raising his 2006 salary. Sit him the f*** down Ozzie. While i agree he needs to be sat down ( i always think he should not be pitching) someone that has more power than ozzie needs to be telling him this... aka kenny williams.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) what do ya think, fathom. should we relax a bit or are we still in trouble? Well i am clearly not fathom. But there is no way in hell the sox should be relaxing or letting down one bit. If anything they need to pick up the intensity about three notches.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Anyone remember what the incentive clauses were in El Duque's contract... He has a possibility to be up to $8M next year. Ozzie's refusal to sit him could cost the Sox both games in the short term; plus money and hinder trade partners in the long term. Ugly situation.
