Could all 5 Chicago teams make the playoffs?
qwerty replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) Vikings??? With the great Sage Rosenfels as their QB? I don't think so. And why stop there? What about the Fire? How about the Shamrox? Sky? Bandits? Etc.... Let's get ALL of our local teams in the playoffs in 2009! Since i had no clue what the hell the shamrox were i looked them up, turns out they are no longer in existence. -
I have never understood booing in my life. I can honestly say i have never booed anyone, for any reason, at any point in time. I think whoever does boo (players their own team) is nothing less than a jackass. How anyone can think a player is intentionally screwing up is beyond me. I know it is very hard to look past all the money these players get paid but no one will convince me they want to win any less than the fans. You guys are taking his ''booing'' harder than wise is i'm sure. He probally forgot all about it once thome hit that homerun. Wise is a professional (whether we want to believe it or not), rather certain he has been booed at other points in his entire baseball career. I realize the ''boos'' are directed towards management for having wise in a position to fail but he is the only source to let out the anger so everyone has to accept that and get on with it. Ozzie and williams are not on the field, other than when ozzie changes pitchers. Does anyone here really expect ''booing'' or a chant to get started against ozzie concerning wise when he comes out to change pitchers? Extremely doubtful. Anyone in the entertainment business, exactly what baseball is, deals with critics. Either you get over it or you go home. There is very little room for error. Take and actor or actress for instance, they can make six great movies in a row... everyone loves them. The first one that bombs, people want their head, and people start flinging the s***. Once more they either get over it or they stop making movies, really the only choice they have. If everyone took everything to heart very few people would be where they are to day, in all fields of work, and even life itself. I understood wishing for wise to fail in spring training because anderson is clearly the better candidate due to how weak the sox are defensively. Now it is entirely a different story. Anyone who actually wishes for wise to fail at this point is foolish, because believe it or not, it hurts the sox, ''in the now''. If he just so happens to fail so be it and we shall move on to another option.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Yeah I see your point for sure. But at the same time, if they're very close to the division lead, or have the division lead by the time Mauer comes back, it's going to be hard to beat them. That's why it's horrible seeing the Mariners gift wrap this game and send it in the mail for the Twins. Mauer will be back in a month roughly. Probally should concede before he even gets back... because everyone knows if a team is ''close'' or actually ''has'' the division lead one month into a season you are phucked.

Practically any hardcore fan of any team will have the same complaints we have... because we become so attached and see them day in day out. For anyone that does not believe me, go read any of the main forums for some other teams, we are really not much different than others. Btw, a line-up with getz, quentin, ramirez, anderson, and fields is not as slow as soxtalk cracks it up to be. Most teams have ''base cloggers'' in the middle of the line-up. Get over it. The 3-6 hitters are the boppers and speed is not a necessity, of course is a bonus, but not what you are looking for out of them. Year in, year out we get good base running out of thome (one of the best in baseball), dye, and konerko (if you noticed i did not mention the rest of the team).

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) You would think that Ramirez would get more fastballs to hit in the 2-hole, and he crushes the fastball. I would have absolutely no problem with Alexei in the 2-hole. What due to protection? I have seen studies in the past that prove protection is signifigantly overated and arguably does not exist... in the sense that it is believed to. I personally just feel he would try and do too much and get away from what he does best... hit with risp. He has hit well with risp his whole life, his oppurtunities will be limited too much for my liking in the 2 hole.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) Put Alexei 2nd. Problem solved. They will not bat him second, at least from what they have hinted at. Also ramirez would be wasted there, pierzynski and ramirez will get on at similar paces, both fairly high contact, neither walk, ramirez has more power, and also ramirez is much more likely to get exposed in the two hole.
-
Just so people realize, once getz take over leading off, our two hole will also be very bad, not wise bad, but bad. Pierzynski is far from ideal and definitely not someone you want getting the second most at-bats on the team. What it comes down to though... Getz Wise Pierznyski > Getz

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) Wise looks like a minor leaguer up there That is fitting considering he is nothing more than a minor leaguer, realistically speaking that is.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) Remember when Millwood consistently hit 97, and threw that curveball for strikes? Command's always been an issue for the guy, and while he's had a decent career his upside could have been spectacular. League averages the last three seasons around the majors. Millwood 2006- 6.6 K/9, 2.2 BB/9 2007- 6.4 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 2008- 6.7 K/9, 2.6 BB/9 Career 7.2 K/9, 2.7 BB/9

Wassermann has zero plus pitches, therein lies the problem.
-
The whole being 28 thing is the story behind that, likely.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Bub-buh- he's an ace, right? He's going to carry that rotation to the top? Right? Right? No, way was last year a fluke... that would be like, like saying that Carmona's good year two years ago was a fluke! And to do that would be to acknowledge the White Sox as legitmate contenders in this division! Impossible! It is unfair to say carmona was a fluke. He had a damn solid minor league career and was touted pretty well during that span. He was higher touted than say laffey, who some expect big things out of. I just think it is too early to put a label on carmona's 2007 season, we do not have enough of an mlb track record to work off of just yet. Last year he just had massive control issues, nothing like he has experienced in the past.

Seems odd since bossard said they will meet monday morning and make there decision then.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Im pretty sure that whole post was supposed to be in green. Thats the way I interpreted it I understood that, it's just that he would be far from the first to post a sub .600 ops in 250 at-bats in a season
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) Well, I was surprised, frankly, they didn't have Floyd, Danks and Alexei Ramirez all slumping badly and going to Charlotte, along with Josh Fields striking out 175 times and Lillibridge posting the first sub 600 OPS for a player with over 250 at-bats in a season (well, that last one might happen if he doesn't start walking more than once every 100 PA). You have to be kidding.

Respect is a two way street... i feel the repect is lost... on both ends. Frank likely feels they did him wrong, and i am almost 100% positive the organization feels the same way, if not more so. Just not very realistic in my eyes.

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
qwerty replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) A note for DBAH0 & JPN mainly; Jordan Schafer has officially won the Braves starting CF/leadoff job so Gregor Blanco will start the year in AAA. I would be a lot more excited if blanco was anything special. He walks well and that is the end of his game offensively. Don't get me started on his stealing ability. How about baseball reference with the upgrade? Much smoother looking. -
A little late on april fools.

QUOTE (POPPY_HIDALGO @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) I'm actually liking the Sox chances alot this year. I think it's a solid team and don't understand the naysayers at all. No one in this division got better in the offseason. No one. If anything the Sox changing core dynamics by becoming a younger sleeker team will make them able to stand up to the rest of the midgets and prevail... As the tallest midget. In a playoff series, I love being able to throw Buehrle, Floyd, Danks. I think everything is gonna be ok White Sox 89-73 Twins 84-78 Indians 76- 86 Royals 76-86 Tigers 5-157 You are just not nearly as fun as you used to be.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) Maybe ~.730-.750 but with a ~.230 ISO and a 40%+ K rate. That's assuming it doesn't click for him. In other words something you do not want out of your dh. High side i can see him anywhere from .810-830... if he were to click.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) To the group of people that seem to have recently become enamored with our prospects: Dallas McPherson was a bigger prospect than any prospect the White Sox have had since Frank. I'd give the kid a big league contract if that is what it took. Coop'll fixem! Past tense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) Dye has an $11 million option for next year. After we saw what the market for older, weak on defense power hitting OF's did this season, where Abreu and Dunn could barely find jobs on short deals and where Dye became untradeable and expensive, it's going to take an economic miracle for Dye's option to be picked up. The only way he'll be back is if he really, really wants to stay and will take like a 1 year, $5 million deal after his contract is bought out. I didn't say in what way he would be back, just that he would be back. Loyalty in sports is hard to come by, but there are always aberrations. Some players actually will take cuts even when they don't have to because they know it is for the greater good... and they also realize their millions are made, getting older, and want a shot at the ultimate goal. Dye has been nothing but a class act his entire tenure on and off the field, i just do not envision it changing any time soon.
