  1. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) Check out the update to that same link now. :headshake http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/04/sox_brass_displ.html QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) This paragraph is why you can tell this "report" is wrong. Why? Because everyone knew about Hermanson's back condition. He's been in constant care by Hermy basically all winter. The whole group of them knew he was going to try to avoid the surgery, but the whole group knew there was no other option if rehab didn't work. So, why would Kenny be a.) surprised by talk of the surgery when the back problem came back up and b.) asking Hermanson whether or not he should bo look for a reliever in the first place? QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) In that White Sox article, RumorMonger (the owner of the site?) posted 'Lidge for Buehrle?". Anyone still doubt he's a moron? QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) I wonder if he had to get legal clearance in order to use "MLB" as part of his web site name?? QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) The B stands for "bulls***."
  2. The normal font is JimH and the bold is Cheat... More of the conversations follows...
  3. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) Jim, how do you know this guy has connections? I also think it's really unfair to Ofman and Levine to be lumped in with this guy. These guys are paid good money to travel around with baseball teams whereas we have a guy who, to quote Bob Uecker, is "0 for the century" when predicting possible trade rumors. (Yes, he does predictions as evident by such titles as "expect player X to be heading to team Y soon.") Ofman was the first to report the Contreras signing. Where was this guy? Don't you think if he had ANY connections he would get something right and before someone else? I mean, I knew of Nancy Faust re-signing for 2 more years back in 2003 because I engaged in a conversation with her son online (I e-mailed him like his mom asked ) Maybe you know more to this story than me, but my uncles or one of them knew of Tim Raines being signed by the Sox before anyone else because they were hanging out in the GM's office. How is it that people I know can get inside scoop like this, yet a guy who runs a blog dedicated to all trade rumors can't get ANYTHING before someone else? QUOTE (JimH @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Because I know, just like I know your grandfather owns the oldest continuously family run restaurant/tavern in the city of Chicago, and just like I know the joint has liquor lisence #6. You guys really need to take a closer look at how he says things and all the caveats he puts in his writings. That's it, I'm done with this thread. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) That guy knows more about baseball than cheat? Has more connections? Humorous. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) On his Twins big trade rumor, he has nothing, but does say the message boards are chattering about a big deal about to go down. I don't agree with JimH when he says this guy has great sources. I think he basically goes over the sports websites, newspapers, and message boards looking for a rumor, and he posts it. I really don't think there anything posted there anyone else couldn't get if they wanted to do a little investigative reporting. He may know a couple of writers, but if you look at the archives, his information just isn't accurate most of the time. He is sort of a mini-Rotoworld, except he will use total crap from message boards as a source. It really doesn't bother me. Everyone likes a good rumor, even if there isn't an ounce of truth to it.
  4. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...=48268&st=0 QUOTE (AbeFroman @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Is there any page less reliable than mlbtraderumors.com? I'm more apt to believe the National Inquirer.... Murton, Rich Hill, and Guzman? Thats three of their top five prospects right there. No way would the Cubs agree to this. I hope its true, cause the cubs would be paying an absurd price. However, I doubt it is even close QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) I don't buy this. Why would mlbrumors have it and no one else. When is the last time that site actually had a scoop? Ever? QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) MLB traderumors + 4/1 = absolute bulls***. QUOTE (Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Jim, How do you know the knucklehead who runs that site? You defend him far too much for somebody who's not related to him. QUOTE (JimH @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Actually no I'm not related to him but thanks for the condescending remark. He knows one hell of a lot more about baseball and has more connections than you ever will. Further, he has connections that no one on this site has, and many of you are just unable to grasp the concept that he reports rumors. Get it? Rumors. That means he reports what's being discussed. He does not put %'s on whether something will happen or not. Even though he was spoofing, again, the premise of the deal makes sense, even though you apparantly have a dialed in read to Cubs fans minds. :rolly Actually I think a lot of the criticism of this guy is jealousy. Some of you guys wish you had the connections he does, and it's easier to sit back and take potshots at people whose place you'd love to be in. This is one reason why I stopped posting here, because of people like you who converse in absolutes and take potshots at people who have just a bit more information that you do. Nothing personal but I am sick and tired of all the criticism of guys like him, Levine, Offman, et al. These guys are damned if they do and damned if they don't in your eyes. QUOTE (JimH @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) They report chatter, they do not predict which things will happen. Big difference. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that site say this deal could be done by the end of today? He gets some of his info from message boards, there is no doubt in my mind. When the one poster on this board claiming to be the son of an investor said the Sox were willing to go to $106 million with their payroll, that same "rumor" appeared on that site almost word for word. Also the Carl Crawford for Josh Fields rumor was absolutely ridiculous. QUOTE (JimH @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) His rumor was a spoof which I personally think was a stupid thing for him to do but don't think for a second the Cubs aren't keeping their radar on Carlos Lee. They are. What is the payroll? It's about $98M with their actual obligation being about $92M isn't it? They are commiting resources, as evidenced today. So it appears what he said is not too far off base. And actually the # he stated was $105 if I recall. KW has come out well after all this stuff got said and indicated there would be room if they needed something mid season. Some of you guys insist he gets his info from message boards, he reports what he sees on message boards and checks it out with his contacts. I have tried to explain this about two dozen times but no one seems to grasp it. He writes up things he hears or seeks out. He gets a lot of stuff from agents, 2nd level front office types, scouts, and media. He could care less if SoxTalk believes him or not. He doesn't care about people on SoxTalk having a scorecard about rumors and discrediting him. Half of you don't read exactly how he says things anyways. I'm not defending him 100% but I will say he's one hell of a lot more in the know than anyone on this board. My point has been made pretty clearly so go ahead all of you and get in your last word and feel good about yourselves for taking potshots at guys like this. Again it doesn't matter to me if a bunch of fans respect this guy or not. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) Jim, I would advise you to go back and look at his archives. One of his rumors has source who supposedly was a roommate of Barry Larkin's cousin in college. The rumored trade this "source" had was Ronny Cedeno for Brad Wilkerson. Surprisingly, the trade never happened. I understand there is lots of talks and different players mentioned between teams, a point you have brought up before. But there are also lots of rumors which are total BS, trades that were never discussed. Last winter there was a lot of talk about the White Sox being close to landing Juan Pierre. They never discussed Pierre with the Marlins. I wouldn't doubt the Cubs have their eye on CLee. But I am 99.99 percent certain they would not give up the package this guy is talking about for him right now. If I am wrong and Carlos Lee is a Cub by the end of today, I will wear a mlbtraderumors.com shirt to every White Sox game I attend this year. Another thing, if he really wanted credibility and I am not sure he really does, he would get rid of the link on his site where anyone can send him a rumor. Considering no one else has this, its most likely an April Fool's joke.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) It's "paid". Oh, and Coop'll fix 'im. Record is all that matters. Good pitchers find ways to win games. John danks-12 wins- 3.32 era and one of the top pitchers in the league for the entire season. Livan hernandez-13 wins- 6.05 era and was tied for the second worst era in the majors. Livan is still available...
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) He gave up 23 homeruns last season in a pitcher's park and failed to throw 200 innings. There's also that knot in his shoulder. The last two seasons have actually been a major improvement compared to how much of a pitchers park angel stadium used to play as. 2004- 0.545- Dead Last 2005- 0.630- Dead last 2006- 0.906- 26th 2007- 1.808- 2nd--- WTF? 2008- 1.017-16th
  7. It really needs to be said... Mlbtraderumors f***ing blows... they are not nearly up to date as people want to believe. Dude is a hack...
  8. 3/9? Might as well see if he will pitch for free at that rate.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) lol, i don't think that's legit. Is that a tabloid site? Yes they are a tabloid site, though they have been breaking a lot of bigger stories in recent history than usual. I have yet to see it debunked anywhere. But it likely will in time I was pretty positive he never wanted to bring Robin into the big picture though, as he hates the character. Also this... That is a pretty tough thing to screw up..
  10. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Am wondering if Taveras goes to Cincy, does that make Dickerson and Bailey a good enough return for Jermaine? Would also stop Kenny from possibly chasing Taveras ... Would Cincy do that sort of deal? According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds are interested in Willy Taveras. The newspaper reports that "the Reds called him as soon as he became a free agent" last week. Taveras would lead off and play center field for the Reds, which would push Chris Dickerson into a reserve role if they add another bat. Source: Cincinnati Enquirer I doubt they sign taveras as they simply won't win like they would with jerry hairston jr. I mean come on.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) Why? it changes nothing, the guy still cannot recover from injuries and is injury prone. He still doesnt have the energy to play everyday. Exactly, different name. Same results. On the surface it sounds great and that is pretty much where it ends.
  12. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) If he were to sign and then it was discovered that he lied to get a better deal, the contract would almost definitely be void. Any team would take a long look at all medical records and research into the disease to ensure this isn't a bluff. Plus, if he was bluffing, that would make him a sack of crap. I am sure any team that has intentions of signing him will put it extensive homework regarding his condition. Though teams have been bluffed before and it can happen again. Reggie Lewis anyone? Athletes have been known to doctor hop until they hear exactly whatever it is they wanted to hear. The baldelli market has been rather small (almost nonexistent) and this is a sure fire way to get the market going. Baldelli has millions upon millions (might still sign a one year deal to raise his value)of reasons to get this news now of all times. Regardless, he has only played 155 games in 4 seasons. There is room for concern. No team should sign him with the intent of him playing much more than 3 maybe 4 times a weeks.
  13. Let's hope he is not bluffing for the sake of it...
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) North Dakota has a collection of stores called Rock 30 games Rock 30 games There's one in Bismarck, and I found The Adventures of Link for $10. They also have Mega Man X2 for $40 on the site, and - as a super Mega Man fan boy and an absolute love of the X series on the SNES (though X4 was decent) - I'm honestly thinking that's a good deal, considering I've seen it for like $50-70 on eBay at times. What do you guys think? The best advice I could give you would be to pick one up one ebay pretty soon because you are correct and x2 can go for 50+ a lot of the time. For whatever reason though the prices of x2 and x3 are down considerably. At the moment the average used Mega Man X2 is going for right around $25 on ebay. The average X3 is actually going for right about $40.
  15. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) Holiday Inn is greatly under appreciated by you youngin's I generally prefer for a black and white not be transferred into color but they did a really nice job on Holiday Inn. I, like a very small group, actually saw the colorized version several years ago to go along with ''The Bells of St. Mary's''. Recently a colorized version has been mass produced and it looks simply awesome. Holiday Inn colorized... The colorized version is fantastic and it really brings to life all the costumes and dresses. Bing Crosby official site... Just click on ''video player'' and you will get a sample version of what i speak.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:19 AM) qwertyworld says that the Sox might be in the running for Ramon Vazquez as a utility infielder. Apparently they missed it when the Sox traded for Lillibridge and Betemit while also having Getz in the system too. Anyways, that would be a more than disappointing signing. That was cute!
  17. Tigers get even worse... signed adam everett to a 1 year 1 million dollar contract.
  18. Only half way done reading this thread... but why did anyone want morton is the first place? Already 25 and the first time he ever (7 seasons) did anything noteworthy was for half of a season in triple a last season.. The he promptly went back to his old ways of being atrocious once the braves brought him up in the second half. He is fodder.
  19. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) Ya, its condos now though. I remember hearing also thats where they filmed a lot of the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The entire film was filmed in germany.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) Scoring runs isn't the problem. I understand that. Trust me. I have been preaching the last two years the core of the offensive is one of the best in baseball, but maximizing your investment is key. The Sox are simply not getting enough bang for their buck, given the historically low OBP in the top two spots in the lineup. Also, OPS with RISP doesn't really "disprove" my point. It should be expected that the Sox have a high OPS in that situation. They hit a s*** ton of HR's. The problem lies with a runner on third with 1 out, or 2nd and 3rd with two outs, ect. They are not a good situational hitting team, and the whole point of this was Willy Taveras isn't going to change that. The sox have arguably been the best team in baseball average wise with risp since 2000. 2000- .301 which was 3rd in baseball 2001- .281 which was 6th in baseball 2002- .290 average which was a tie for 1st in all of baseball. 2003- .281 which was 6th in baseball. 2004- .291 which was second in baseball 2005- .259 which was 22nd in baseball. 2006- .307 which was 1st in baseball 2007- .243 which was dead last in baseball. 2008- .277 which was 8th in baseball The sox situational numbers, a runner on third with one out, or risp with 2 outs look no better or worse than the average major league team in the past nine years. Hell their numbers look no better or worse in the past five seasons. Hitting with risp and 2 outs in one of the tougher things to do in the game. When a team fails to score with a runner on third and only one out though it is rather disappointing/frustrating. Point is the sox are not nearly as bad with risp in any aspect compared to the average team, and if anything they are better than almost every team out there. The problem is getting the runners into scoring position in the first place, as you said, stringing some hits together.
  21. QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) I simply don't understand why everyone is so fascinated with the bunt. It's a bad play designed to give outs to the opposing team. Isn't the point of offense to not get out? It's even worse and more idiotic when you're doing it in front of a 3/4/5/6 that hits nearly 130 home runs per year. With the power that this team has, and will continue to have since the majority of the middle of the order will be back, it's absolutely ridiculous to suggest the team should get a leadoff man that doesn't get on-base and bunts as much as Taveras (or someone similar) does. What you did not fall in love with ''ozzie ball''? Ozzie ball actually never existed, it was a figment of the imagination that the white sox brass thought would be a cute marketing ploy. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) It isn't even worth arguing about. People are under the impression acquiring Taveras will change the makeup of the offense, which couldn't be farther from the truth. In reality, your going to get a player that doesn't get on base enough to bat at the top of the lineup, has no power into the gaps, and is basically a gimmick hitter. I'm not sure if people just haven't watched this team the last 3 years, but it's an awful situational hitting team. They are built for the long ball, and adding Taveras isn't going to change that, at all. There are posters that seemingly can't wait to watch Taveras hustle out an infield single, and steal second. Then what? How often do the Sox string hits together? Really? It's not how this offense is designed to operate, and Taveras isn't going to change that. The sox were one of the top 3-5 teams all season when it came to risp. They were in the .285 range roughly the first five months, ended up 8th with a .277 average and 5th .813 ops with risp. They were actually very consistent and getting them in throughout the year. The problem is they had the third fewest chances in the entire mlb with only 1300 at-bats. The top 6 teams (two tied for fifth) all had 1491 at-bats or more with runners in scoring position. Therein lies problem, getting them into scoring position in the first place. In 2007 the sox were abysmal with risp. The sox were dead last in average, ops, and of course at-bats. 2006 they were the best in the majors with a .307 average, .11 points higher than the twins and .17 points higher than the indians. Their .880 ops with risp that season was the best of this decade. Once more they had 200 less at-bats than the league leader. The sox have been no worse than fifth in the league or better when it comes to ops with risp outside of 2005 and 2007. The 2007 was an aberration which I personally throw out the window. If we could ever manage to get obp heavy in the 1-2 holes in the line-up...
  22. Taveras could not hit last year due to his leg injury. Though he stole twice as many bases as his previous career high (34) at a much better ratio. Hm...
  23. Prefer buehrle clearly, i am just hoping for a quality start out of javy. Winning game one just increases our odds so much. Vazquez has the ability to shock us all though, i am not one to believe that he will blow in every ''big game'' he ever has in his career.
  24. Blackburn has a 5.20 era on the season away from home. Blackburn also has a 5.67 era in 27 innings against the sox in his career. The sox have hit him harder than any other team by far throughout his career. Coincidently danks has a 6.88 era against the twins in 35.1 innings against the twins, the twins also have hit danks harder by far than any other team. The fact that the sox are at home i like our odds pitching wise and offensively. The sole fact that danks has faired well at home (both home and away actually) and that blackburn has been awful on the road is what makes me lean towards the sox winning tomorrow. Danks just has just do his thing and the offense has to make blackburn throw a lot of pitches and hit his mistakes hard, which he makes a lot of them.
