  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) First of all, I'm not entirely sure those numbers include the number of times he was picked off. I don't believe it does, and Podsednik was picked off the bases way too many times this year. Secondly, yes, regarding base stealing, Podsednik would have been fine in my book had he been 44/59 in steals. All I care for in base stealers is that they are at, or around, 75%; else, they are hurting their ballclubs. I was also never advocating bringing Figgins to the Sox. I was merely mentioning why he was a better option than Podsednik, nothing more. http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/2006/...stolen_base.php Podsednik nearly running away with being the least efficent player to steal 25+ bases this season.
  2. So many ignorant ( and you guys like to say) things have been said in this thread. Would take far too long desecting each particular thing that is simply rediculous. I hate when people back their point to no end without even giving the other sides point of view a thought.
  3. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 07:34 AM) Care to explain why? QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) He has speed, can lay down a bunt, he's good defensively and he's Latino. Does that sound like Ozzie's kind of player? His chances of making the team are considerably better than you think. Plain and simple he has done nothing well enough in his career to warrant a roster spot with a perennial playoff team year in year out if they play their cards right. Doing such would not be having luis terrero on the major league roster. Where you two timo backers? How was it enduring two full seasons of a scrub when there where better and cheaper options out there. With terrero we have a cheaper option... but he is clearly not an upgrade over anyone who was on the roster last season ( whoo plays a little defense... and i do mean slightly above average). Be willing to bet anything that he will never be on the white sox major league roster. As aboz said... he has spring training filler written all over him.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Please. Mack is very underrated here and it's too bad Ozzie's misuse of him makes people want him off the team or think can be replaced rather easily. There is zero chance terrero makes this team.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) Ya well I didn't want to wait until 11 to make this thread, so sue me. Thread was made at 12:02 a.m. no?
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Get a room. Why so b****y lately? This sensor sucks btw...
  7. Good to see cracks at one another still exist on soxtalk.
  8. Good thing. Uribe has zero value.
  9. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) It's Fred, Jon then Vas to finish up. I'd give a standing O to the fact they are our team, but not to their performance. It will be a miracle if we don't get swept if the Twins truly want to win the division and not face the Yanks who would sweep them. That was a big win for the Twinks tonight. Down to last at bat against the pathetic Royals and bam home run. Twins will be swept by no one.
  10. All i know is that i hope gload gets a chance some where...
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 02:17 AM) If Brian Anderson got 500 at bats he's probably be hitting under .200. He wasn't ready for prime time at the plate; may never be. Now if they have a designated fielder ... he can play on any team, any day. Makes zero sense considering he has gotten better with the more at-bats he gets.

    QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:20 AM) 4 pretty damn similar pitchers one of which is Freddy Garcia the other 3? Let's just say they're pitchers that you wouldn't necessarilly call good. This is the same Garcia who has mysteriously lost around 6-8 MPH on his fastball over 1 offseason, has shown up teammates, said he only pitches well in "big games", has sucked in "big games" and has posted monthly splits that are consistently bad, showing no signs of improvement. April: 5.86 ERA | 1.59 WHIP | .259 BAA May: 3.70 ERA | 1.11 WHIP | .280 BAA June: 4.81 ERA | 1.43 WHIP | .279 BAA July: 5.52 ERA | 1.48 WHIP | .295 BAA Aug: 5.72 ERA | 1.40 WHIP | .299 BAA If Scott Podsednik were a pitcher he'd be Freddy Garcia, except I've never seen Podsednik show up a teammate. I saw signs of improvement. May through augusts his era went upwards.
  13. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:13 AM) This thread is ridiculous In August his OBP was nearly 200 points higher than AJ's and Juan's. He had the second highest SLG% on the team in August. He also batted .329. Either some of you are completely full of s***, or get off on making knee-jerking reactions without looks at the facts to back up you claim. In September he still has the 3rd highest OBP and OPS amongst of all sox regulars. Some of you really need to check your Sunday paper for a "cluepon." :rolly: Well i personally wish we had a speedier guy with an ops .200 points lower than thome's. Team speed is the key to this teams success. Not the pitching. Also hope we do not hit a home run the rest of this season.

    QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:02 AM) With all due respect some of you sometimes think you know soo much and won't accept anybody else's take. OK so Fred is 14-9 instead of 14-6. The guy just flirted with a f***ing perfect game. But you think he's finished, he's toast. Think about what he did LAST YEAR. Sometimes I think you guys think the Sox will someday get 5 superior starters. Name one f***ing team in baseball with 5 superior starters??? Freddie Garcia is NOT a stiff. Sox fans are starting to remind me of fans of some college teams that act like their team is the ONLY one out there. My god. Freddie Garcia will have a job on any staff in baseball, why not ours??? Podsednik had a very good year offensively in 2004. Why not next year? Why not on our sox? What is your point that he just flirted with a perfect game. There have been no names that have thrown no-hitters. If a guy that is making ten million dolllars a year to post a era hovering around 5 he is indeed a stiff. Garcia is capable of an era in the hige threes... consistently if he throws how he should. But he rather pitch for a couple years longer... and into make less money when it is said and done. There is a very good chance he does not come out strong in his next start. Nothing suggests to me that he will.
  15. This thread also blows.
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) Hey Qwerty - what are your thoughts on Gload? Just curious. I have been one of gload's main backers. He showed what he is capable of in 2004. In 2005 they favored timo perez over him. The same timo perez who made the team because of his ''clutchness'' factor. Timo perez would be the worst starter in all of baseball... hands done. For such a great pinch hitter he hit .167 with a .450 ops in his 24 at-bats. Supposedly he was playing the year hurt... well if he can why couldn't ross gload? He was still playing every day in charlotte and putting up numbers that trumped timo's and anyone on the bench for that matter. Everyone wants to know why gload has not has an oppurtunity as a starter. Simple answer to that is he has been stuck behind grace, helton, thomas, konerko, and thome. Very rarely will a player in his situation (28 when he first got over 200 at-bats) ever get the chance. Teams just cannot get into a season relying on someone to be their starting first basemen/left fielder when he is the age he is...and never produced for a full season. I do not see any reason for him to not be out in left for at least three games a week. The sox should have been working him hard out there in left... all throughout spring training. Then they should have followed it up with extra fielding before each game in the regular season. He needs work, no one is denying it. Gload's arm is stronger than podsednik's while he no longer has the arm strength he once had. I just believe he needs a chance before people can say he is a butcher/sucks... out in left. There have been worse athletes/players than ross gload roaming the outfield. In a full season i am gonna say he would hit in the .270-.290 range with good gap power. I could see him hovering around the .800 ops range.
  17. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) I don't see Gload as the answer in LF. He is a good role player, but we are going to be looking at a right hand hitter with speed. Plus you want defense to back up the pitchers. Why exactly will the sox be looking for a right handed hitter with speed? I am guessing because podsednik is left handed and sucks which in turn means all left handed lead-off hitters will with us too.
  18. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) can't wait to get it as nerdy as this may sound, I can't wait for the new zelda I just started up legend of zelda... a link to the past again for snes. Awesomeness.
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) I'm going to agree with Mariotti on this one. You don't talk about no-no's or perfect games. Fans should know or find out by themselves like I had to. He should've ripped ESPN too for cutting to the game. Redirkles!
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) you know, a month ago I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly. But now with 16 games remaining I dont feel is a good time to be sending messages for lack of hustle(even as bizarre as that play was. The only thing I can think is that Iguchi thought the ball was caught and he was gonna be doubled up), especially when iguchi has been hitting pretty well. I just want an explanation from Iguchi of what was going through his mind. How do you not know there were two outs? The only reason i believe ozzie did not take him out is superstition... and i am serious. I doubt i could have in that situation.
  21. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Genuine critiques of my team are good baseball talk. Must everything be positive? More childish personal attacks. Why don't you talk baseball and discuss the topic of the thread instead of ad hominem attacks (which are supposed to be prohibited on this site). Honestly, you make it worse by responding. You will likely continue when you see this and try to insult me.
  22. There was zero reasoning for that to happen... so please no one make an excuse for him.
  23. Why is thome being unclutch and knocking in a run in the third inning?
  24. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) Oh well. I suck.
