  1. At least he only has four more years left on his deal...
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 01:48 AM) Yes it matters, it's a rookie improving, that's huge short-term and long-term. This guy could be a huge reason as to why the White Sox take the lead in the divisional race and end up winning it. I would also guess that he's at .250 by the end of the year. To do that, he'd have to hit about .315 for the rest of the year, given 350 ABs. I think it's very possible for that to happen. Anderson is not gonna hit .315 for the next two and a half months. Willing to bet he never does hits for that high of average in that long of time span for his entire career... he is just not that type of hitter. Nothing close to it.
  3. Remember i put the indians avatar and signature the day before the rally crede started... that was what did it all along. I changed my avatar and and signature... just for the sake of soxtalk.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) I understand how people can say that winning games early by hitting with RISP and so on is going to be equally important, but personally I just can't say I believe it. Why? I'll point to ARod's double play in game 5 against the Angels last year as the prime example. What I think happens with guys like ARod is they beat up on mediocre pitching. This is why he's so much better with RISP...good pitchers allow fewer of those, so ARod's numbers go up a lot then, but he disappoints when he's faced with good pitching. Since closers tend to be pretty decent pitchers, and they make their appearances in close games, ARod's numbers drop then. ARod is a guy who beats up on mediocre pitching and generates you a lot of runs. But if you want him to key a championship run, he can't do it, because when he's faced with good pitching either down the stretch or in the playoffs, he shuts down. That's my theory at least. He has put up a .945 ops in the last three years in close and late situations... and he easily has a .900 ops for his career in that situation,, which is hardly scrubbing it up. He has also been known to be a better hitter in the second half, .100 higher ops after the all star game than before. He has also been great with the bases loaded in his career. There are only a handful of guys who hit rediculously well with men in scoring position... and arod is generally not one of them. You are jumping to conclusions what type of hitter he is based on 48 at bats in close and late situtations... and throw in a couple playoff series. If you want to get a list of everyone who has struggled this season in close and late situations and in the playoffs... you will see many shocking names (vlad and manny anyone?). There is no doubt he is one of the most intiimidating hitters in the game... even more so this upcoming second half. The only reason he isn't the number one player in the game in my opinion is because of the yankees wasting his defense at third. He is the best shortstop on that team... but whatever he does at short jeter may wash out or be worse at third.
  5. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:00 AM) I think you were looking at another year for WS and VORP: Win Shares 2006: Buehrle - 9 Vazquez - 7 VORP 2006: Buehrle - 19.8 Vazquez - 9.9 For looking at pitchers, I use my own number to come up with a comparison ((TB + HBP + BB) / IP). I think this is better than WHIP since it adds the extra base hits into the equation. I understand that it is still affected by fielding, but not as much as some of the other stats. WHIP doesn't show whether the hit was a single or a HR, this computation does. TBIP - 2006 Contreras 1.62 Buehrle 1.98 Vazquez 1.99 Garcia 2.22 Garland 2.27 Normally under 1.50 is Cy Young award caliber and somewhere around 2.00 is average, over 2.40 is bad. That was basically pwnage...
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) I was under the impression that arbitration eligible players' salaries cannot more than double. Therefore, Crede will get a shade under six, that is if his contract doubles. Very false. http://www.strikethree.com/03/02/06/dave.shtml http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/base...ration.figures/ There are way more up to date ones... but those were just handy.
  7. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) I'm saying some of the mods here ban people for no reason whatsoever, and that those few moderators shouldn't be moderating a board because of it. That was obvious, I just disagree. People may have been suspended over small petty things... i would agree with that. But whenever someone gets banned it is because of that persons stupidity to go against the rules multiple times... in usually a short time span. Unless something has changed in the last few months ( not really been paying attention here) that is how i have always seen it.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) On the other hand, one could also look at the 8 for 47 he's put up this season in "Close and Late" situations, with the associated .548 OPS, and then start to wonder. There are what 8 innings before ''close and late''?... that are just as important as risp. He has done his job with men on/risp perfectly fine... his trouble has been with no one on.
  9. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) Why hate Ryan Freel? Well he does have 14 dui's as a starter...
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) This is a good read about leadoff men and statistics by the way: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...eyes/index.html It doesn't include the numbers for all leadoff men, but its something to think about. I dislike posting before i have read any of the thread... but this article is so ridiculous that i just had to point it out to anyone if they skipped over it.
  11. Anyone remember when only a few people saw how truly pathetic podsednik is... was around the time we acquired him up until the all star game?
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 02:17 AM) DUDE JASON BAY SUCKED IN THE SECOND HALF LAST YEAR, DUH WHAT ARE YOU STUPID Didn't you know it only effected the people who did well in the home run derby?
  13. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) I swear, Burgos and Sisco are two of the biggest turds in the MLB. Can either of them go ONE outing without giving up a damn baserunner? I'm not upset about the Twins tying it as much as I am for Santana getting off the hook (playing against a guy in fantasy with him.) There goes the lead! On a wild pitch. LMAO I still remember when everyone was talking s*** about the cubs for letting sisco go... no one seems to be saying that now. I thought the royals actually had something going in the pen... with sisco and burgos down in the pen. Both of them had sub four era's last season and showed above average stuff... only thing that has hindered them is their piss poor control. Sisco and burgos are both young enough that hopefully they turn it around from here on out.
  14. Myspace... i have always wondered... do you speak like you do online in the real world?
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) Hey Tiger fans, I'm curious, are there any good Tiger sites on the web? If not, would you guys be interested if we could put together some sort of site for you all (not that you aren't welcome here, cause you are, but a place that you guys could call home). You tell me cause a lot of you seem like damn good posters who follow your team and other teams. We could probably put something together. No need... they have a nice looking site over here...
  16. QUOTE(PJBMD @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) I DO disagree. There are two on the top part I don't feel are locks, and there are three in the bottom part that don't belong there. But, whatever. The "buddy system" determines who is right. You can say people are "on the rag" if you go to junior high with the moderator. If you only have a few posts, "you fail to meet expectation" is way over the top. It's called hypocricy. So which do not belong? This should be interesting.
  17. QUOTE(PJBMD @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) I still don't understand why this poll and thread are not trolling? It says, "these players have done well and these players stink." I find it offensive on a Sox talk site. It does no good to chastise posters and then do the exact same kind of thing with a thread. It also does no good to chatise one and let your buddies slide. Are you honestly trying to say that you think anyone on the exceeded list should be on the disappointed list... or the other way around? Come on, he hit the nail on the f***ing head... they all belong where they are. Anyone with half a brain would be able to go over one of the options with the mouse... click it... and then go down a little more and hit the ''Vote!''. Where does it honestly say ''these players have done well and these players stink"? I may have honestly missed it but i looked twice and came up with nothing of the sort. If that hurts your feelings... what would you do if some one said that you ugly, smell bad, and suck at life? Would you have to go and get a box of tissues? Serious question.
  18. Teams have their own little homeruns derby's that no one ever knows hears about. I think a little too much has been made out of it... i mean they also use to have weekly homerun derby's on tv and it is doubtful that they were thrown off left and right. The players that are always pointed to are the players that slump in the second half... aka the aberrations. Players can slump at any given time... for an extended period of time... and a home run derby is definitely not gonna be the sole cause for it.

    QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:15 AM) He's more like the fat man that likes EVERYTHING. He was a critic back in the day, now he's just a whore. Go to Blockbuster and see how many movie boxes his name is plastered on. It's about time he has spoken up about all these f***ing superhero movies. The only decent one has been Batman Begins. I have read that he just does that because he is told to give higher ratings... it is for the people... but can express how he truly feels in his review. What i have always liked about ebert is he explains things so that i know whether i will have any interest in it... whether he has or not. I can only say that about a select few critics.
