QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) That Gatorade commercial with the athletes big heads on kids bodies freaks me out, man! Especially when the first time you see it you are stoned.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) is it just me or is interleague play becoming tiresome? Interleague play has... and always will suck. Never liked it from day one.

Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
qwerty replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who will strike out more looking... thome or podsednik? I believe it is a damn good race and they usually like to match each other once one does it during a game. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 02:30 AM) Vaz has gotta improve no doubt. We've seen what he can do at his best, in some of his outings earlier in the season. Just needs to develop that conisistency, which we've seen before the likes of Contreras had problems with. Just another reason as to why Ross Gload should be replaced as the 25th man by a REAL outfielder. When dye made that good catch a few days ago he was above average in the field around here...

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) reason to like our team. Papi is their cleanup guy. Crede is our sixth or seventh hitter. What does that matter? Ortiz is on a whole other level hitting wise. He will be top 5-10 in the mvp voting for at least a few more years... while crede will never get close to that/posting the numbers ortiz has. He just doesn't walk enough... and the power is not there.

Roger Clemens didn't look too hot tonight
qwerty replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) I love Clemens. The guy is one of the greatest to ever play the game. Love the player, not the person... considering we all know how big of a douche bag he is. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) I dont care what people say, the Mets are good and the White Sox or any team from the AL should not take the NL lightly. Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Wright is a hell of a line up considering they do not have a DH. And unlike most NL teams who suffer when it comes time to play with a DH, the Mets have guys like Milledge, etc who are just looking for a place to play. True the Mets pitching is not that great, but their offense has the tools to win any game. And in a 7 game series with Pedro going atleast 2 times, that is only 2 other games that they need to win. Its one thing to be confident, its another to be arrogant. And Reyes just went for the cycle last night, imagine Pods being able to do that. The season might have just started when i said this... but i believe i mentioned it to 3e8 that the mets had one of the most impressive teams in the leauge and that they would face off with the sox in the world series this year. At the time he thought it was bold... but i also believe wite really liked them too. One of the reasons i still really like the mets is because the bullpen has been amazing... i thought they had a good mix, but they are proving to do even better than i expected... other than heilman having a bad month. Teams with strong bullpens exceed and usually advance further on over teams with the s*** bullpens. Hopefully they can continue all the success out of the fourth and fifth spot in the rotation ( someone new every other start it seems) because if they do i think they can make some noise come playoff time. I am sure someone is gonna say i undervalue the strength of a rotation... but a bullpen is just as important if not more so. When you have s***ty bullpens that blow games left and right it ends up rattling the starters... making the believe they have to do more than they should/have to... and it leads to mistakes. Btw, how about the mets drafting both heilman and wright in back to back picks in 2001 and having them produce for them?

Who is the Best Young Pitcher in MLB?
qwerty replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) someone with the label 'dominant' let alone 'one of the most dominant' does not have 60 walks in 105 innings. Zambrano does. I'd like to add. I would take Z over anyone on our staff. I just worry about those walks. That can come back on you against the good teams. Keep in mind he IS in the NL. I would personally consider nolan ryan pretty damn dominant even though he would walk 150 a season... he is even second of all time. He made up for all those walks by not letting anyone hit there way on, much like zambrano does. Zambrano is as dominant as they come. He is the definition of effectively wild. The beautiful thing is his control should only get better... the only time his control was nearly this bad was his first time through the league (16 starts in 2002 he had 63 walks in 108 and 1/3 innings. I would be far more concerned with him if he was giving up hits at a higher rate... but a walk is always better than any type of hit. His baa is around .200 and his k/9 is the best of his career at 8.91 -
QUOTE(lukeman89 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) they have vaginas between their legs ('cept your mom) Trust me, this is simply not true.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Riske being equally if not a little tougher on LH hitters is also a bonus. Don't have to play the match-up game with him as he's held LH hitters under a .200 baa the last 3 seasons (average). Righties hitting .233. If ozzie and the sox didn't realize it last year with that politte and jenks can get lefties out they never will. Only right handers can get right handers out and the same goes for lefties... unless if they looked at some stats maybe? Nah, why help the team at any cost.

We should trade for eric milton.
-
Nothing about hawkins numbers are impressive. He is allowing too many hits against... when he his good years he would put up a good baa... now that he is getting hit there is no reason to waist time inquiring. We do not need more mediocore pitchers... especially at the price he will come at. One way or another a very good set-up man will need to be traded for before the deadline.... or we are in big troubles.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) I'm hoping BA actually gets a start against a righty soon. He has an OPS of about .200 better against them compared to lefties. Blatantly obvious over the years that the sox do not look at splits of any kind or just ignore them and play the game by the book. I know i cannot blame only ozzie... but how can he not be looking for every possible way to make his team better?
-
Garland is a garbage, plain and simple. It was all too predictable that he would post the best numbers of his career last year... i have been calling him to do that since after the 2005 season. Many though he turned the corner... but i knew he was gonna cash in and go back looking lazy and like he does not care out there. He cashed in now and will go back to being league average pitcher ( was exactly 100 going into the 2005 season)... probally worse... for double the salary he made last season. He cries and blames players on his own team, cries when he gets booed... and cannot take criticism. Garland sucks and i cannot wait until the day he is gone.
-
Does everyone still think i am crazy for saying there wasn't a chance in hell that he came close to rowand's 2005 offensive numbers? Does jphat still think podsednik is a good fielder because he hustles, is cute, and is fast?
-
Put it this way... how ever much better cintron's offense is over uribe's is not greater than uribe's defense over cintron's. Not even close. Stick with cintron and you will see his head being called for when he has two errors that cost the sox and goes 1-14 in a three games span. Same goes for mackowiak and anderson... and i really am not a fan of anderson.
-
I love how people hate homeruns... yet they are the only sure hit for a run. I could care less if the sox scored seven runs of singles and doubles... or all off of three homeruns. Anyone ever notice that when the sox have not scored for three innings '' they are swinging for the fences''. Almost never does someone give a pitcher the respect they deserve... or does someone mention that the team cannot pick up a certain guy. Why does no one b**** when the sox are swinging for the fences? Shouldn't they be more content with a single? I am pretty positive most think the red sox... yankees... mets... just swing for the fence too. Reading soxtalk you would think that... 1. Homeruns are bad... a base hit is superior. 2. Everytime a white sox player gets an out it is because they were pulling it for a home run.
-
The more often he plays the sooner he will be exposed... ride him out at various positions while he is hot... but don't be shocked too see some errors thrown in. Pablo is a solid hitter... but then again he has very limited gap/power. His ability to draw a walk is lacking... in 408 career at-bats he has walked only 14 times while striking out 44 times ( which is not bad).

QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Montero warming! This is a whitesox GAMETHREAD. Not a tigers update thread. He did nothing wrong... benchwarmerjim has been doing it for a long time now and no one has had any problems with it. Just drop it before it breaks out into something bigger than it should be (already is actually.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 26, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) Totally agree, not much work being put into bringing them over. He should get the points.
