Derek Lee signs extention
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) Usually, the rough %age that the stat guys tell us you have to hit in order to have your steals help a team instead of hurt it is about 75%. DLee has only beaten that number 1 time in his career. What year? You guessed it. Frank Stallone. Wait, that's not right. He did it in 2005. Stolen bases suck... He is a very smart base runner that can score from first on a double and from second on a single... the majority of the time. With konerko we do not have that luxury,..

take it easy on ozzie
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) Maybe Ozzie is just testing Garland, seeing what he does when his manager blames the loss on him. Since it's not necessary to win April games, might as well see what size his cojones are now, rather than wait till October, when we're guaranteed to play, due to our World Series bye. This i agree with 100%. Games don't even start mattering until late july. We need to stop blaming ozzie, he is only human afterall.

Sox v. Kansas City, 4/7/06, Garland v. Affeldt
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) Anyone else notice that Garland's fastball has been about 3 mph slower today than usual? He was hitting 92-93 earlier in the game.

why are people so upset
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) I'd like to make a few points here; 1) I do think our bottom of our order will be better than last season. I think we'll see more of the late 2005 Joe Crede and Juan Uribe, than what we saw from them for the 1st 4 months of 2005. Crede hit .267 post ASB and Uribe .257 post ASB (.304 in September). If they can both hit around .270 which I think is definitely possible, that's an upgrade on 2005. And then you've got Pierzynski who hit for his lowest BA in his major league career in 2005. If he can get back to the hitter he was in Minnesota, that's an upgrade. Those 3 guys, don't strike out a ton either, so they won't hurt you too much in that regard. 2) Is team OBP really the most important offensive stat? The Florida Marlins had the 4th highest team OBP in 2005 with .339. They only scored 717 runs. We had a team OBP of .322 and we scored 741 runs. It's important no doubt, but if you have a balanced lineup that can still hit for power (like we do), you'll still score runs. Obp is not even as big of concern as strike zone judgement is. We have some guys that take hacks at pitches a foot out of the zone. Mackowiak and cintron both should have walked easily today. Basically anyone on this team has a full count or are ahead in the count they are looking to put the ball in play without even acknowledging there is another way to get on base.. I wish they would take a more laid back approach (like the red sox and yankees) and wait for the right pitch... and hit it to the field it is intended for. Konerko fouled off a ball four today... was very outside... then follows it up with a swinging strike out at the ankles. This team has a randall simon approach up there.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) You're forgetting to consider taxes, unpaid vacations, less hours during the winter, ect. I'm also sympathetic for your foolish mistake of forgetting the quotes. I forget the period actually... as you can see the period was in quotes. Sorry for you failing in your attempt for making me look like a jackass.- Wage Talk
QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) Are you saying I'm seeing things? I hope you're refering to yourself because your pre-edited post obviously had the "$" after 10,000. I don't think you know my boss who only cares about making money. He doesn't give a s*** about how much money his employees make. Actually i forgot the ''.''... So your boss is paying five dollars per hour? Where do you work? Five dollars and hour... for fourty hours per week is only 9,600 by the end of the year.- Wage Talk

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) Well although $9,000 may not seem like a lot to you, I was just thinking about how the adults that I work with make only about $10,000...in an entire year. And that's how much your jewlery costs. It's some shocking juxtaposition. You work with adults that make $10,000 a year? They live in their 1971 piece of s*** car?- Sox vs. Indians - 4/5 Game Thread

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) But when you register in the late innings of a game your out-of-town team is pounding the sox and then subsequently post about how great the indians look, it creates a presumption that you are here for trolling purposes. QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) rightfully so? rob is not even 1/2 the defensive outfielder that BA is. ... and anderson is gonna be vastly overated in the field this year. He takes both bad reads and routs... while he has jumps and speed to recover. He is far from the full package out there (defensively)- Sox vs. Indians: 4/4 Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) Jphat....he didn't look fine. He was throwing weak fastballs to the plate and rolling offspeed pitches. Not only that, but he was completely slowing down his motion on his change-up. They were lucky to find the holes still.- Sox vs. Indians: 4/4 Game Thread
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Yep here we go, he sux, he's hurt, we're doomed, trade him, put him in the pen etc. :headshake He has no control of anything. The purpose of him doing this ( throwing 89 miles an hour) was supposedly so that he can get better control of his pitches. He looked extremely bad... and he will struggle all year if he throws with this velocity. - Wage Talk
