  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Have you been watching Barons games or something? Ever read mailbags or baseball america... how about baseball think facory? I remember there was a pretty good conversation about him there. His defense is not anything to write home about... but on the other hand it's not something to worry about. To be honest... he does not have many things he does extremely well. Anyone who says otherwise is just saying so to say so. Great swing... plus arm... what else? He is not very fast... have read his reads could be better... and i am not sure about his base running. He has a decent eye... about a .60 differential... but unless he developes serious power int he near future ( next couple years) i cannot see him as our starting right fielder in 2008. It's not that he just hasn't had homerun power... it is also gap power.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Man, im glad most people dont count out 21 year olds in sports so easily. I am not counting him out. Reading soxtalk though you would think we have 10 players in the minors that have the ability to be starters in the majors... when in reality we may have one or two.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) wow, could you be more negative?? First off, Sweeney is not a mediocre fielder. He is a good fielder with a plus arm. He is expected to produce that much power, and his tinkering of his swing really effected that last year. If you have seen him play, you know why they say he has a major league swing. At age 19 he tore up major league competition in ST. Owens is a 4th OF'er if you have PODS playing there already. he is basically the same type of player, slap hitter, weak arm, tons of speed. The guy has hit very well in the minors and winter ball. He should project as PODS replacement in LF as well as batting lead off. Anderson is a rookie this year, Rowand was a vet. Of course it is somewhat far off to expect him to out produce his stats this year. Of course expecting him to be good on defense, and improve on his offense all year is not out of the question. He is supposed to have better tools than Rowand, so I would expect him to be a better player eventually. Sweeney is a mediocore fielder... maybe slightly above average.... he does have a good arm though. Realistically i think it is naive to expect all three of these players to be starters for the white sox. This is not some dream world that all prospects pan out and have good careers. Many players just don't have what it takes to be a major league player... or a full time major league player. I would be shocked if two of anderson, sweeney, owens, start for more than three years in the majors... btw that 33% is still a good ratio for minor leaguers to make it pro and stick.
  4. QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) with all due respect (if any) qwerty.... i think you under rate sweeny. No. I think people overate him. I seriously doubt he hits 20+ homeruns in double a next season... most here seem to think it is a given. Sweeney does not project to be great at anything... most things he is just average. The only reason he has always gotten as much recognition as he has... is he swing... which i have seen labeled as ''perfect''. I don't see him being a starter for the long haul in the majors... hell even three years. Hope i am wrong about him though.
  5. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) Morrison is a better complete player, and will develop in the NBA, Redick will struggle to create his own shot next year. That is the thing... he does not need to create his own shot. He already has an nba three point shot so he will get his fair share of shot attempts. If you can shoot like he does you will stick around in the nba for a long time... especially if he goes to a team that is very pick oriented
  6. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) NEITHER Reddick can not elbow people in the nuts in the NBA, and Morrison can no longer flop and cry. Do you watch the nba? I am not trying to sound like a dick... but you can get away with basically punching someone in the face in the nba. But then again, they like to call alot of phantom calls. Bruce bowen is known for his elbows/tripping players and has been getting away with it for years. How about dirkle and his elbows this year? Seems every other game someone is getting bashed in the head with no call on it.
  7. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) If Sweeney develops 20-25 HR power as has been projected and Anderson hits 15-20 homers like he's supposed to, how would that be so much less productive than Podsednik, Rowand, and Dye? Like you said, our outfield productive was weak last season (44 HR's). I do not see sweeney developing 20-25 homerun power anytime soon. You do not go from hitting one in a full season to hitting that many no matter how f***ed up your wrists are/were. Sure, he has two at this point... but realistically you cannot expect him to keep this up. He is just a mediocore fielder and has mediocore speed/baserunner from mostly everything i have read. While he is a good prospect i do not consider him a lock to make the big leagues... let alone be a start in just two full seasons from now. Jerry owens is a fourth outfielder that cannot play center... don't you want a fourth outfielder to play all three positions... and do it well? I also do not consider it a lock for anderson to outproduce rowands season from last year this year. Yes, i do know how bad rowands season was last year.
  8. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) I definately think that our 2008 opening day outfield will be: LF Jerry Owens CF Brian Anderson RF Ryan Sweeney I would bet one... and likely two of those three will not be in our starting outfield in 2008. That would easily be the least productive outfield in the majors... even worse than we were last year which was quite bad. By 2008 we will have someone in the outfield via trade or free agency.

    X-Men 3 trailer

QUOTE(juddling @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Once again an X-man movie coming out on my birthday...sweet!!!!!!!!! it will be interesting to see not only where the movei goes but what it will lead to as far as the next sequel goes. it's nice they are bringing in Beast (even more interesting with Kelsey Grammer) and i believe they are introducing Arch-Angel as well as a couple others. I also am happy they are keeping the young Iceman in this one as well...but would it be that hard to bring in Gambit???? Damn....well....maybe X4 will be the one. Fourth one? Good luck. Closest to a fourth one you are gonna get is the wolverine movie in 2007.
  10. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Everyone has their own personal opinion on this race, and here is the place to discuss it. Is Morrison the next Bird?? Will JJ Reddick be nothing more than a Steve Kerr in the NBA?? Sure, the media has done its fair share to overhype the s*** out of these two in this up and down college basketball season, but the comparisions and competition have been a good reflection for the college game..... While the Naismith is not defined as an MVP award, considerations for such criteria should be considered. That being said, where would the Zags be without Morrison?? They'd probably be begging for an NIT birth. Reddick is a fine college player and someone an oppenent HAS to contain for a shot at victory, but I just feel that he is more of a thriving product within Duke's system. After watching thier offense over and over on tv and seeing the amount of screens they set to free up JJ, one can easily see with his shooting ability on how Duke's plan is geared for Reddick's success. I look to Morrison as a much more complete player, something he will prove in the United Center next year. Now lets hear your take. You will only see morrision prove himself two to four times next year @ the united center.

    Lost, season 2

I keep hearing this show is extremely slow and drags on forever... truth to this?
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) I thought million dollar baby was very sad as well. I have seen the same ending in three movies in the last week... it is pissing me off because i can only remember the title to two of them at the moment.

  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:30 AM) The prior note was kind of stuck in a glitch thread so I just want people to know that the reason you couldn't access Soxtalk for a large portion of the day on Thursday was due to an error in the program the runs all the PHP. Because of that the front page and forum (which are both PHP based) were basically acting as if they couldn't recognize the code. We had not seen the issue before, but we have been doing some other server stuff on the back end and by mid day we had isolated and solved the problem. Everything should be set and I wouldn't expect any sort of significant outage (not that we ever do) but every once in a while an error will happen and being that we are amateurs sometimes it takes us a bit. I appreciate everyone's patience and apologize for the downtime. We are always trying to do things to ensure that the downtime will increase and I'd like to think that ever year we've improved on that and we'll be doing what we can to prepare the site for the new season and more site growth so that there won't be many slowdowns. We are also working on some alternatives to getting the search function working again (but in a different way). Just wanted to keep everyone in the loop and thanks so much for making Soxtalk what it is today. The site is only as good as the community and I personally think you, the members, are amazing.
  15. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) Yeah, except Oak Forest would probably beat your team's ass by 7 or 8 runs. What conference are you in, I've never heard of your school? Oak forest is good but the last couple seasons they have underachieved. Czarnecki is legendary though so anything can happen.
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Probably the whole game. It was close for the most part. It was close the first two quarters. Then througout the third and fourth they had at least a ten point lead. I just find it hard to believe that lake zurich would hold him scoreless for three quarters.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) That sucks man, sorry. Your right though, Yelder is obnoxious, I'm not sure how the hell NIU managed to steal him but I can't wait to see him in DeKalb next winter. I have seen plenty of him and he seems pretty damn underated. He scored 33 on tuesday while dunking four or five times and knocking down some treys. I like his dribbles, he is fast, and not a bad penetrater for his size. He seems a little lazy defensively at times but i think that can be improved upon... think he just goes too hard offensively at this I enjoy watching him play... just hope he is awful on friday.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) On Tues, Scheyer only had 7 pts in their win over Lake Zurich. Didn't score til the 4th quarter. How many minutes did he play before hand? I have been looking... but i doubt he played much if any before the fourth... why risk injury when they were clearly gonna win anyway?
  19. Half of his foot was over the line... was bulls***... then again if reavis boxed out on the free throw it would not have come down to it. The final seven minutes ( last two of the fourth and over time) were just fun as f***ing hell. Cannot wait until friday when yelder dunks all over reavis...
  20. Now this is the one i am talking about that mercy! was b****ing at me for. She had the worst sense of humor... it was amazing.
  21. Joanie loves penis. Should have stayed on longer for the title alone.
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) I liked him too Good stuff, just had no command. Had he ever found some command, he would have been a solid starter, and I personally thought he had meanass reliever written all over him. What ever happened to him? I seem to recall he was released - anyone picked him up since? He is just sitting on his ass i would think. He has to be completely rehabbed so it is weird that some team didn't sign him to at least a minor league deal ( alot of times these types of players do and it goes unnoticed for a while). I also thought he would make it as a reliever... not a ''meanass' reliever... but one of the last two people out of the pen. None of his pitchers were dominating... hell they were all mediocore when he was going good. Only thing he has going for him was good velocity on the fastball but never made the strike zone consistantly and when it did it would get hammered ( fathom thinks contreras's fastball is straight?).
  23. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) True Romance. Great Movie. There were too many no names in it.
