QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) I didn't make an argument with glaring holes in it so I have nothing to explain but thanks for avoiding my request! Did the Sox get value for their third round pick in your opinion?

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) Explain Andrew Mitchell who ranked anywhere from 49-62 in the fourth? Explain the 200th ranked prospect in the 3rd.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) Chances of 3rd round picks being huge contributors aren't that great. Go back to the 2008 third round. Craig Kimbrel is by far the big prize, then Danny Espinosa, then guys like Morel, Zach Stewart and Tekotte. If your 3rd rounder pans out, you are doing really well. Their past draft record cannot be defended, but really at this point of the draft, these guys are all lottery tickets. It's a draft day tradition that the Sox won't get value for their picks (i.e. 200th rated prospect in 3rd round.) That's fine if they have shown to build a top flight farm system by doing that, but unfortunately it's the exact opposite.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) I would have said yes a couple years ago, but last year seemed like a big improvement. Took a ton of high upside guys and even went overslot on some non top 10 picks. That's why I believe May is likely an underslot guy. I like that strategy less and less as the rounds go by. Take the guy you want in the third round.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Not that I like the May pick, you don't know what their plan is. You shouldn't be critical when you know next to nothing about not only the players, but the Sox plans, their agreements with other players, etc. I know you can't post without being critical, but wait til these guys suck in our system for a while before you rip the draft. Will do, thanks.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) Why go for a polished, low upside bat in the 3rd round? Not to be flippant, but the Sox just don't understand the draft process.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:52 PM) He led the nation in homers, runs, walks and slugging pct. he sucks. I said I wasn't overly impressed with the video I saw on him. Sorry.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) Glaus is a good comp. I think a little less power then Glaus, however, he possesses a better ability to hit for average then Troy did. Defensively has all the tools but still pretty raw at 3rd. I think he should be productive. Hard for me to say anyone had the raw power that Glaus had. Seems like a very very safe pick though, then again, I Thought that about Pedro Alvarez. Probably one of the best pure college hitters to come out since Pedro Alvarez and Tex. If he's the best college bat available this really is a weak draft class. Mayo seems to think there's a good chance he moves to RF.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) Who would have thunk it. He's one of the best offensive collegiate prospects to come out in years. Great athlete, great power. You show your lack of knowledge. San Diego State plays out west and plays a tough schedule too. Who is his comp? His college coach sees Troy Glass. Who do you see? You have a lot of knowledge in this area and are well respected by many here.
-
I wasn't overly impressed by the video I saw of Bryant. I don't think he'll stick at third and a .329 avg at San Diego State isn't all that great.

No way this team avoids 90 losses.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) Ventura is the leader and the team reflects his laid back attitude. If there was ever a time to be thrown out of a game its was that missed call at 1st base by Angel Hernandez. Ventura argued some but should've got tossed. Sveum got tossed arguing the same type play and it didn't immediately cost the Cubs a victory as the Sox situation did. When your team is losing show some anger at the umps deserved or not. Show your players winning is important to you. More drastic lineup changes might show that you won't stand for losing but Ventura trots out the same basic line up every day. Show you give a damn Robin, maybe your players will follow suit. This is Hollywood stuff. Ventura is the least person responsible for this mess.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 07:42 AM) KW gets blame for the Dunn signing, because he let Ozzie run the asylum. There was zero reason that Mark Kotsay should have been an everyday player, yet KW let Ozzie make the decision. In turn, the Sox didn't keep Thome, who killed them in Minnesota, and they panicked in need for a slugging lefty in the middle of the order and signed Dunn. Ok, but Guillen is the biggest reason Freddy Garcia was traded to the Sox. Win some, lose some, but w/o Garcia no WS.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) And clearly once they got on Don Cooper's staff, their performance fell apart? Has this "philosophy" been implemented in the minors. If not/why not? I don't think it's an organizational philosophy if they are only doing it at the MLB level.
-
Sale and Quintana together threw 58.2 innings in the Sox minor league system.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) That's an organizational philosophy particularly with pitchers. Move them to the starting rotation and don't have them overthrow the ball, because if they do that their control suffers and they get hurt more often. Frankly...it's been incredibly effective. How so?

Give Jordan Danks 500 AB's over the next 162 games if John agrees to give back $10M.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) You would have to think that is next. 25 years in the organization. He's due for his promotion...again. Coop is Kenny's spy. No way he gets elevated to manager.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) Cause he is a terrible player. He's earned the right to show us how terrible he can be.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) Yeah. You're incredibly inconsistent. You want to rebuild with prospects with talent, but as soon as any guy struggles on our roster you can't stand it and you want to discard them. You admire and envy the struggling talent on other franchises but are unwilling to deal with the same thing happening in Chicago. That's why your desire for the Sox to dump Ramirez, Peavy, etc., don't deserve any respect. As soon as the Sox got a player back for them, you'd turn on them and demand they be replaced once they had a down month. The problem is we don't have many prospects worth developing. Quintana and Santiago. The rest, Viciedo, Reed, Flowers, and Jones, if the Sox lost any of them, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) Let's just be honest, at the very least, Thompson is 1.5 years away, Walker is 2 years away, and Mitchell got his aggressive chance this year and did not succeed. I hear he was crushed when Deunte Heath was optioned back to Charlotte, thought it was unfair.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) Which is obviously why you want to replicate them in every way and would happily grab their struggling young guys while insisting we need to get rid of ours. Oh gosh, when you threw out that hypothetical about acquiring the Great Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas I guess I did not realize what you were getting at. Now I understand.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) .721 .737 .673 Career major league OPS's of Viciedo, Moustakas, and Hosmer. Guess which one is Viciedo's, Marty. ROFL!! You got me there, Balta. You got me there. The Sox win every comparison to the KC Royals. Some damn measuring stick you have dug up. ROFL!!
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) I see. So you're plenty willing to give time to develop to cheap trash from other teams with great minor league numbers, just not ones from the White Sox. Guys from the White Sox struggle, they need immediately replaced. Guys from the Royals struggle...hey, they're one swing away from turning it around! .886 .840 .781 Career Minor League OPS's of Hosmer, Moustakas, and Viciedo. Guess which one is Viciedo's, Balta. ROFL!!
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:27 PM) Marty, if the Royals put Hosmer and Moustakas on waivers right now, would you want to claim them? Absolutely. Without question, great minor league numbers, cheap contracts.
