Economic Crisis Hurting Canadian Conservatives
CanOfCorn replied to KipWellsFan's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Awww, that's cute, look, America Jr. is holding an election too. AWWWWWW. Watch it...the Canadians might invade wielding back bacon and niceties! -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) I need a high quality high-def feed! Comcast 191. WTTWD. And they have Jim Lehrer on after it with a fantastic NON-BIASED panel. The guest panel is usually balanced like last night. They had a Dubya speechwriter and a Clinton speechwriter (who was awful).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) That's classic McCain. In an interview with George Stephanopoulos, if I recall correctly, he was asked about the deficit or something that brought up "billions of dollars", and what he would do to fix it. His response? "Peh, a billion dollars? I can have you a billion dollars tomorrow!" The guy is filled with empty answers. Walter Sobchak: You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. The Dude: Yeah, but Walter... Walter Sobchak: Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish. These f***ing amateurs...

Winner? TV networks. This is probably the most important election in decades...people seem to be more interested this time around, which makes for higher ratings, which equal higher revenues (although, I watch PBS). McCain didn't do anything to make a big difference, which he needed to do. Obama is just playing defense at this point, bend but don't break. If you look at it like that, then I guess Obama won by not losing.
-
And the winner is... ...no one. Again.
-
So McCain's saying he doesn't know what he doesn't know?

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) Nah, they'll put a big "Kick Me" sign on them. Nope, they are going to put HUGE buckets of water on the door to the border.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) Look out Yugoslavia--Russia is going to pants you! That made me laugh out loud...thank god my sleeping kid didn't hear me.
-
QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) How many Reagan shout outs has that been? Are you including Obama talking about "Trickle Down Economics?"
-
Cool hand??? i think it's pretty well known that you have quite a temper, Sen. McCain.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) I don't think it was McCain that said iraq would be quick and easy, I think that was Chaney. I think the exact quote was, "Meah, meah, meah, eat their young." /sarcasm

McCain takes a shot and connects... Obama recoils but then lands a fat one on the chin.
-
McCain...not funny.
-
Whoops...Obama just made my point. I still don't understand why we can't have a combination of the two. Every child under 17 has free health care...adults are more on their own.
-
McCain overusing "my friends..." AND, they really need some new rhetoric. We've heard a lot of this before. Of course, maybe it's the questions.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) By the way, I finally managed to watch most of the first debate recently. Nothing earth-shattering, nothing really new. As I may have noted recently, no one really "won". But one thing did stick out, and it bothered me. It was the way they treated each other. Obama referred to Senator McCain as "John", and addressed him directly, a lot of the time. McCain on the other hand, referred to Obama with general phrasing and never made eye contact. Its like McCain had no respect for sharing the stage with him. This is yet another picture of the way the McCain campaign has turned me off in recent months, and IMO, why many independents are moving to Obama. Its a lack of respect for anyone or anything that doesn't toe the conservative line. Which is disturbing to see from McCain, who I had previously seen as someone more likely to be truly willing to be a "maverick". There is nothing maverick or independent about this version of McCain. Exactly. For someone who talks about being able to work both sides of the aisle...he sure does brush off his opponent pretty quickly, eh? I was watching Meet the Press on Sunday, and the pundits (2 from NBC, Gwen Ifill, a political reporter from Des Moines and an author) pretty much agreed that whoever takes the high road FIRST is probably going to go on to "win" the debate. This campaign is dipping into mudslinging so fast and with the state of the union right now, this isn't what the country needs.

For all of you wondering why you would want to drive over 80... Take a drive through West Texas, Eastern Colorado or New Mexico, Eastern Oregon, or for that matter Central Illinois. Gotta go as fast as you can to get through those places. And I'm sure there are others.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) I actually think Swisher will have a bounce back season next year. He's young and accomplished enough that it's a reasonable expectation. +1 And I think the team will keep either Thome OR Griffey, but not both. My money's on Thome....

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) Please decline arbitration, and go sign with the Twins. Please don't get hurt over the next two months. You're one of the most unlikeable Sox players of my lifetime. I can't wait to hear all the negative stories come out after you leave town. How about this: Welcome to SS Alexei Ramirez!!!

QUOTE (rockren @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) From a 72-90 '07 season to a playoff run in '08... Thank you for a wonderful season and first rate effort. I look forward to rooting for our beloved WSox every day again next year. I think they may look just a tad different. White Sox '09!!!

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) I like the idea. Even the radio volume. Are you presently or have you recently kicked whippersnappers off of your lawn?

BWAHAHA, of course the Bengals sign Benson!
CanOfCorn replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Benson looked like crap in the game yesterday...granted it was his first game back, but he looked like the Benson of old...running right into the defensive line. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) I'm just happy I have at least one more day of Sox baseball than Cubs fans! Fixed.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) As much as I'd like to agree I'm having trouble believing we can. I think we'll win tonight but the 5th game at Tampa will be very difficult. We flat out suck at domes. There's no question about it. And if we somehow make it to the next round I don't think we match up really well against Boston or Anaheim. I sure hope I'm proven wrong. Not only in Domes, but on turf. The Sox don't have enough team speed for fake grass. I think the Sox match up better with the BoSox, but if we make it past the Rays and take on the LAA of AAAAAA, it's going to be REAL tough. But first, let's make it through this series.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) I was on the first U-bahn train that went from West Berlin to East Berlin. I use the Berlin Wall as a point of reference frequently. Are you the Hoff?
