  1. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) How big a kick in the nuts would it be to OC if the Sox signed Renteria and he had a monster year...only to be lauded by Sox fans? Would actually make me chuckle. I'm kind of on the fence with moving Lexi to SS. Seems to me he makes up for his mental lapses at 2B pretty well with his athletic ability. Not sure he could overcome that at SS. I'd actually prefer to leave him at 2nd...but it all depends on the options available. the problem with what you and others are saying about moving Lexi to SS is this...we haven't really seen him play SS. And since that's what he palyed in Cuba for years, he could be better than we all think. Just because he had issues at 2B doesn't mean he'll have those same issues at SS.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) I'd rather have Brandon Phillips Me too, but I would think he's untouchable. Cano can be had, Phillips, not so much.
  3. QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) The fact alone that he looks more like the rest of the world than a typcial white american will provide that shot in the arm. Not to belabor the point, but compare the two parties (not political, but actual party) last night. You had McCain's at the Biltmore, which is one of the nicest hotels in Phoenix and comparable to a Four Seasons. Not to mention his crowd which was primarily white, older and male (in that order). Then they show Grant Park. Open to the public, somewhat. A mix of races, cultures, gender, it was amazing to see and the first thing I said to my wife was, "Now THAT'S America." What McCain had at his rally was America in the 1800's, unfortunately. I hope, for their sake, Republicans saw what I saw. Because that's the America of the future (actually, the present).
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) To one of the elder statesmen of ST.Have a good one Yasny. Happy Birthday, Yas!
  5. QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) I agree with Neyer. Javy is a guy who can get a team to the playoffs. He's not a salary dump. But he likely won't be on the sox next year. Javy is a guy who can eat innings and save your pen for the playoffs. He is not a pressure pitcher.
  6. I was in and out in 15 minutes in Oak Park and most of that was waiting for the Diebold machine. Obama, Durbin, Danny Davis, no on the Con-Con, no on the recall.
  7. Probably jumping around...can't stand any of them for too long.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) This is a nationwide problem the last 10 or more years - not enough people willing to run for office. It takes a very special person to run for an office. Even a lower-level one. With the media as tough as they are, in this day and age, I don't know if I want to put my life on display. But, I do the second best thing...vote.
  9. It's either going to be a HUGE party or the World's Largest Concession Speech.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) ISU gets a 2012 basketball commitment from a 15 year old who has yet to play in HS. Awesome. In other news, Bill Self and the Jayhawks get a recruit from LeBron James' first-born son...but the pundits aren't sure if he's going to make it to National signing Day in 2034. Not to be outdone, Roy Williams has cloned Wilt Chamberlain and got a verbal from the doctor overseeing the test tube.
  11. Here we go, yo! Here we go, yo! So what's, so what's, so what's the scenario! Happy Birthday!!!
  12. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) Everyone wants to get rid of Javy it seems but NO ONE has come up with a plan to fill the now TWO OPEN spots in the rotation with the exception of taking a flyer on Richard who hasn't done dick and sign a FA who would cost the same and probably put up worse numbers than Javy...I understand the frustration with the guy that's why you make him A FIFTH f***ING STARTER!!! He's not a bad #5 guys Mercy He is for $12 mil a year.
  13. I would imagine Walker would be more likely to help a guy like Getz or any rookie coming up trying to adjust to the majors. CQ didn't look like he needed the help. These guys are professionals and are more likely to tweak their own swing, unless they ask the hitting coach. Also, I think the hitting coach is more for AB to AB help. For instance, "Hey, you were right on that slider, just wait back on it next time."
  14. You are also assuming Garland wants to play for the Sox again, and I would say that is a big, fat, no.
  15. According to the Sun-Times, DE Craig Drummond of Morgan Park has chosen Illinois over Wiscy. HUGE get. Craig Drummond
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) Ramirez, Wise, Ozuna (when he was here), Cabrera, Uribe (the somewhat skinnier version) Great, Wise, Ozuna, Cabrera and possibly Uribe will all be gone. None of them had great OBP, so they weren't on base enough for it to matter. I mean, c'mon, from batter number 3 to 8 when Crede was here, my grandmother could have outrun all of them. And for singles hitters...here's the thing...we don't have any, at all. It would be nice to have at least one. Put him at 9. I mean, c'mon, we need some hitters that aren't trying to hit the concourse all the time. As much as I love a bunch of these guys, and they fit the Cell well, 81 of our games aren't played there. Let's get some hitters here.
  17. The problem with this team isn't base-stealing speed. The problem is 1st to 3rd or 2nd to home. That's the kind of speed we need, not Owens, not Taveras, but more like Quentin or Anderson. If they steal a base, great...but taking an extra base is more important with this team.
  18. I'm really not afraid to fly, but, there was this one time an idiot on a flight from Champaign to Chicago said to me, "You know, most airline crashes happen within the first 10 minutes of the flight." We were taxiing to the runway at the time. What a jackass.
  19. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) I will be out Trick-or-Treating with the kids tonight while the wife hands out the loot at home. I;m going for the easy costume this year - a novelty stocking-cap-with-bloody-hatchet stuck-in-it. The kids are going to be grim reapers and/or vampire kids. We have an army of carved pumpkins and a fog-belching skull on the front porch, pumpkin lights in the trees, hanging vampires and ghosts, a blood-dripped "Beware" window applique', and a life-sized skeleton clawing its way pit of a front yard grave site. Yea Halloween! How is the mother-in-law?
  20. Here's what we should be looking for in any trade idea... Carlos Quentin. These are the types of players Kenny looooves to trade for. The ones with HUGE upsides that are either blocked at the bigs, deemed injury risks or the organization is just down on. Look at some of the players he's brought in that qualify: Quentin Dye Pierzynski Konerko (although I can't remember if it was him or Schu for PK) Vaz Contreras Floyd Uribe
  21. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Use Jenks in a deal to get Beltran from the Mets.Of course, they could just go out and sign K-rod. Should this be in green?
  22. That's the benefit of playing on a championship team...unless you were a DNP-Coaches Decision all year long, all the other teams think you would be a useful cog on your team...cuz you have a ring, you MUST be good. Still, as was said before...you should be smart enough to wrap that rascal. Maybe he and Shawn Kemp can get together and have a little baby momma confab.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) It will be much harder to replace th defense and defense is what wins games. Plus if Creded is healthy you have a 30 homer guy that is a clutch performer. I am in the group that believes things will still happen this off season that can change this story line And therein lies the problem.
