Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
CanOfCorn replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) i wouldnt mind going after the x man xavier nady either...i read somewhere hes available...hed be considerably cheaper than bay i would imagine and hes a solid .280 20-24 HR guy that can play the corner though i think hes a FA next year so nevermind Fukudome would be nice...the comparison that keeps coming up is bobby abreu without the speed Good but he strikes out a bit too much. That's the only thing that bothers me about him. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) They really ran up those points, spread offenses are CRAZY new in the Big Ten. I think NU's been running the spread since Barnett was there...that's more than 10 years ago. And you could argue that Purdue also does, since Tiller got there. So: Northwestern Purdue Indiana Illinois All run spread offenses. Hmmm... Here's the deal, Mizzou deserves to be in the title game if they beat OU. If not, hello Cotton Bowl.

Rowand not ruling out return to South Side

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) Well, you do have plus defense in there (not going to argue HOW plus it is), and he really has had 2 good years at the plate (2004, 2007). Just to clarify. Plus defense, ok. 2 good years...ok. But, still, not for more than $10 mil/year. -
Rowand not ruling out return to South Side
CanOfCorn replied to Chisox_fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yep...Rowand would be great for the Sox...but not for over $10 mil a year. Sorry A-Row, but hustle and one awesome year at the plate doesn't make you an elite player. -

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 10:04 AM) couple of illinois football recruiting tidbits.... -five-star defensive back boubacar cissoko is going to visit illinois. cissoko has committed to michigan and says he remains "100 percent committed" but wants to feel out his options in case he doesn't like how the michigan coaching hire plays out. he's also visiting tennessee. -offensive lineman david young from edwardsville has narrowed his list to illinois and florida. according to the most recent article on the florida site, he favors florida. you know how that goes. -linebacker ramon buchanon from florida, scout's top-ranked weak-side linebacker, is hedging on his commitment to miami and will visit illinois. buchanon also has offers from lsu, florida, and florida state. -wide receiver jarred fayson has decided to transfer from florida and lists florida state, south florida, and illinois as his most likely destinations. fayson was a five-star recruit and was scout's third-ranked receiver in the nation. however, he's stuck behind percy harvin and wants more playing time. also some speculation he wants to play quarterback, in which case i don't see him at illinois since we are pretty well set there. fwiw, all of these (excepting young) are probably long shots. but this is an example of what zook can do when he's got a winning team to promote. Wow...when was the last time you saw Illinois in on recruits with the likes of Miami, Florida, Florida St., LSU and Tennessee. Amazing. I have to say, I am torn, of course I want the Illini in a BCS bowl, but a Florida-Illinois matchup would be fantastic. -

Charles Martin's hit on McMahon

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 07:21 AM) I don't know if you will ever find a video of that. I'm pretty sure the NFL makes sure their videos stay off of Youtube and any other video site. TIFWIW, Some guy was on the score the other night saying that the NFL is releasing full season DVDs (he mentioned that he has been watching the entire 1985 Bears season), so you may have to go that route to see the hit. Why, Mplssoxfan described it so well, I can see the hit all over again. What a lunchbox that douche was. -
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) But what would you be willing to give up to get him? BOS supposedly wanted Laird and a top pitching prospect from Texas. The Sox might have to work out a three-way trade to fit what BOS reportedly wants (catcher, right-handed setup man, lefty corner infielder). The Sox have little value to move to get this done without opening up a huge hole on the major league roster -- it seems like the only things the Sox have to trade that have real value are Gio and DLS. It seems like at least one of them plus some other stuff would have to get moved to get Crisp. There is NO WAY that the Sox will deal Gio or DLS for Crisp. He isn't worth either one of those guys. Especially if the Sox want to continue to try to pry Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins.
-
Don't forget the Sox would be dealing with Billy Beane here. He would want prospects that are CLOSE to the majors. Just like Haren was when they got him. So, it would have to be something a little closer. Gio, yes. And then.....who?

Recently, I've been into micheladas. There are kinda two ways to make it...one, basically a Bloody Mary where you substitute Mexican beer for the vodka. Or two, mexican beer, worcester, tobasco, soy sauce, lime juice and salt. Mmmmm...

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) No thanks. Even when he's been "healthy" he's been a shell of his former self. I can't even remember the last time he cracked 90 on the gun. Mark Buehrle's no-hitter says hi.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 07:34 PM) yeah i think WVU takes care of business, and mizzou loses to oklahoma leaving OSU WVU in the national championship with OSU scoring at will while pat white and slaton can't quite put up enough Remember who beat OSU though...the Illini's spread offense. And who destroyed them in the 4th quarter...a running QB. Look, Illinois is a WVU clone with talent that doesn't quite make it. Pat White and Steve Slaton are damn good and add in Noel Devine (if he can hold on to the ball) and you have a team that could give OSU fits. It would be a great matchup to see if Tressel's as good of a coach as people thinks he is.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) No one can argue with this. I honestly didn't want ANYONE traded off the 2005 team. I wanted to give the same guys the chance to play as defending champs. Its likely we'd have still come up short, because we had a couple pitchers fall off the ledge in 2006, but what guys like Rowand bring to the table can't be measured with OPS. It can't be measured, but that's what they brought O Cab in for. I think that's going to be a big deal for the Angels, whether they get Miggy or not. Even if they keep Garland and Matthews. Orlando Cabrera was the vocal leader of that clubhouse, who's going to take that spot? Hunter? maybe.

sox looking at Crawford, Cabrera or Crisp?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) The more important question is where he WANTS to go. Now, the Halos could be dicks about it, and basically tell him there is no room in the OF for him, and if he stays he is going to be a 10 million dollar bench player, but I don't see it going down like that. Nah, Anderson and Guerrero will get days off. If anyone goes, it'll be Willits. -

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 12:59 PM) you don't really make the ss sound when you pronounce missouri, you make more of a zz sound. Shouldn't it be Mizzouri then? Or even Mizzourah? -
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) That's a great article....only part that I don't want to see is KW saying he's bothered that a team could come in and blow their offer away. Any GM would say the same.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 11:43 PM) we didn't layoff the blitz we just have a pretty weak secondary. Ziggy hood was the only dlineman getting pressure in the 4th. Zo williams didn't play great. Our offense should've scored more, f'n penalties. Here's what kU is: an incredibly disciplined, well rounded team with a pretty good QB. And a team that consistent can make teams beat themselves. Exactly...KU made hardly any mistakes, Mizzou was penalized up the arse, and still beat KU. I think that game showed more of how good Mizzou is than how bad KU is. That being said, against an SEC team, KU will probably get it's arse handed to 'em. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) If Michigan is second tier, what is Illinois? Who Michigan and IOWA beat? Both teams 6-2 in conference. Yes, but Illinois beat one #1 team in the country in Ohio State and lost to another #1 team in the country, Mizzou. Plus, they didn't get stomped in any of their losses, like Michigan, didn't get beat by an FCS team, like Michigan, and had only 3 losses, not 4, like Michigan. In the immortal words of White Goodman, "Endo story." -

QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) So Michigan wouldn't be an option? If it comes to money, the Rose Bowl will pick Michigan. No...it won't be Michigan. 8-4 vs. 9-3 for one. Also, I believe they still do the last one to play in the Rose Bowl scenario, which would be Michigan. Therefore...go Illini! -
Are the Sox too Cheap to Win Bidding Wars?
CanOfCorn replied to elrockinMT's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) As much as I despise Mariotti, he's kind of right. The Sox, like Chicago teams in general *COUGH*BEARS*COUGH*, are cheap (Cubs excluded, lol). At least fairly. The Sox are really never that team to dish out a lot of money for a big star. Not like this is anything people don't know. Most teams, outside of the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Angels and Red Sox could be considered "cheap." I think it's an unfair assessment. But it's from Mariotti, so I'm not surprised. And don't give me that "Chicago is the third largest market" crap. Until the Sox overtake the Cubs in popularity like it was in the 70's and early 80's, they will have to be more creative. That being said, they have some good talent at bargain prices. The problem is, you can't have it both ways...you can't b**** that the Sox aren't spending money and then b**** when they do spend money and the player doesn't live up to his potential. -

According to ESPN, if both Mizzou and WVU lose and LSU wins, then they were saying Ohio State v. LSU. They were saying no to Georgia because they didn't win their part of the SEC. And LSU destroyed Virginia Tech earlier in the year, taking them out. Didn't say anytihng about USC, tho. Also, if Ohio State gets in to the BCS championship game, Illinois goes to the Rose Bowl.
