QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) I got this info from a pretty solid source, but by word of mouth. There is an initial round of voting, and the results would be announced at 11am Chicago time on Friday from that. Then the horse-trading and second round occur, supposedly resulting in a final vote by 3pm. But, the rule is a vote plurality - it takes as many rounds as needed to get 50% for someone. So I suppose its possible that someone could get over 50% ont he first vote, but apparently that is very rare. I thought I heard that final is at 11am Chicago time. I could be wrong, though.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) Greinke just seems like a good kid. After all he's been through, and the season he's having, he deserves the award. KC deserves the award, too. With their many...MANY years of putrescence. They need something to hang their hat on for a while.

Xanax may be in order.

Phil Rogers also mentioned in his article today a Zambrano for Peavy swap. If KW does that...I might seriously consider realigning my loyalties.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) We can afford to gamble on Pena as a closer. Why? Because he has the stuff, and taking Thornton out of his current role would be a tragic mistake. LR: Garcia LR: Linebrink MR; Nunez MR: Second Lefty SU: Thornton SU: Carrasco CL: Pena Garcia will be starting with someone else before he's a long reliever. Not gonna happen. Linebrink doesn't have the stuff for long relief either. Carrasco is perfect for that role and should be considered a swingman reliever.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) Yeah, I'm a big fan of a distributed solar system where individual homes and businesses are incented (viat tax rebates and what not) to buy panels and contribute to the +/- net grid system. I would love to do that on my house, but I would have to cut down the huge Oaks on the West side of my house. Which I'm not willing, nor is the city willing to do. Although, those trees keep the late afternoon sun off our roof, which cools our house and keeps our AC off longer. Do I get that tax rebate?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) I'm rooting for the NL to win the World Series this year. I can't see myself rooting for anyone amongst the Yankees, Angels, Red Sox, and Tigers/Twins. Agreed. I'd like to see Thome get a ring. -

saw this on ESPN Rumor Central and it made me laugh. But then again...they wouldn't be the Islanders anymore, now would they?

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) What's wrong with Nick Johnson? Injured a lot? Yeah...that's what I was thinking. Plus, he's a poor man's Sean Casey. Not bad if you have enough sluggers around him, but if you get rid of Paulie, I'm not sure Nick Johnson is the best replacement.

See? The FBI isn't as stupid as they make them out to be in movies! "You wanted a miracle? I give you the F...B...I...."

For the contest...I think a new thread should be started. And to help the thread stand out, call it...NERD ALERT!!!

QUOTE (farmteam @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) Correct on the former, though I wasn't in Jazz. Knew plenty of people who were, though. Take it off line...Richie Rich's!

I chose Paulie, Pena, Garcia and Castro. See maggs for explanation on first 3. Castro is a damn good backup catcher. And if Flowers is ready, he can be DH/emergency catcher. Maybe even some 1B thrown in there, if he's done that before.

Tribune article about team being "underachievers"
CanOfCorn replied to kitekrazy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The steroid era is over...home runs aren't as important anymore. Pitching and defense isn't exciting, but it wins. -
And there's no way MB is dealt except for a huge package that any GM would be a fool to offer. If there's anything Kenny knows, it's that 2005 was won based on pitching. Yeah, there's a hole at #5, but Freddy or Hudson or a FA could take that spot easily. Konerko would be a surprise, but not a Brandon McCarthy level surprise (look how that worked out, though).

QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) Maybe if they signed Nick Johnson and rotated Flowers at 1st. Kotsay isn't a full time player. Neither is Nick Johnson...

QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Like I said, on the outside it seems nice and dandy... enough so for some folks to carve an actual happy lifestyle out of it. I have nothing against them. That's why we're here. But it doesn't change my opinion one bit. You call it hatred, sure I may share some dissent for those who brainwash, personally I find it a disgusting tactic to get one to submit themselves to a religion. The bottom line for me is that NO one single person can act as an authority of God. LDS acts as if they are the best of the best, Gods greatest children and Gods favorite. They feed this kind of propaganda to the youth to keep them within their circle for their whole lives. It is a giant scam and a giant lie, of the greatest magnitude possible! Think about it... what greater a scam then one based on a religion that people entrust their faith to? Religion is one of those things which is seemingly right and just in a world of confusion and hypocrisy. People turn to religion to help them get in touch with God. It is a sought-after service. So what better a way to scam people? Earn their faith and trust with the "words of God", and then you can perform any wicked, evil act you wish, on behalf of God and Jesus Christ. I'd be willing to wager that God and Jesus were not Mormons. I'd be willing to wager that when it is all said and done, in a just world, those who do evil things in the name of God and Jesus Christ are resigned to go to Hell. It's not hate, to me it's logic. And those who carved out themselves a happy life.. be they Mormon, Christian, Atheist, Buddhist, what have you, will find themselves also in a happy place after life. I'm more so focusing on the exploiters, the wealthy, those who use God to benefit themselves financially. As I said originally in this post, I share an extreme dissent for those kinds of people. Sorry for the confusion. Seriously...we all KNOW that's the Jews! /green
