US Presidents
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) But...you are the company you keep...and as far as personnel around him I can't think of a worst top to bottom administration in my lifetime. Even the ones that seemed promising (Cheney) turned f'n crazy after 9/11. I haven't voted because I don't really know enough to compare all of them...but I'd have to agree with this point. Clinton surrounded himself with people he respected, not necessarily agreed with. It's a little too early to say yay or nay on Obama. But I will say that no one left the office with a system in shambles more than Dubya. I'm not saying he's the cause, but I can't think of anything he fixed.

SI article about the 2010 White Sox.
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) What makes you certain that Konerko is back? And what makes you certain that Ramirez is coming back? The only 3 players that I can safely say are going to be back next year are Beckham, Quentin, and Pierzynski. I firmly believe Getz and Rios will be back, but I can't guarantee it, because certain scenarios could come up where those two could get traded. The Sox got Rios for free and could legitimately trade him if someone came knocking on the door and wanted to offer two very good prospects. The Sox could deal Getz and move Beckham to 2B if they feel he can handle it defensively and they can find an adequate 3B to take over. I don't see either of those scenarios playing out, but it's possible. I do not necessarily feel the same way about Alexei or Konerko. Konerko is in the last year of his deal and it's possible someone that feels they are a decent 1Bman away from competing may give a prospect or two, or perhaps a good reliever. It also seems as though the organization has soured on Alexei a bit, and if they think that Beckham can handle it at the MLB level, he could be dealt too. I think Konerko is more likely to go than Ramirez, but either is honestly possible. In the same regard, I don't understand how you know that Konerko won't be as good. He's at an .850 OPS, and his career OPS is .844. He is right at his career average right now, and it seems pretty possible that he could repeat that. What about improvement for Beckham? Getz? Ramirez? What about improvement in RF by whoever replaces Dye? C - .765 1B - .850 2B - .750 SS - .775 3B - .825 LF - .850 CF - .775 RF - .825 DH - .825 is it possible to get those OPS's from all of those positions on the field? Because if so, the offense will produce and it will produce well. Some will surprise, some will disappoint, but I don't think any of those are completely out of the question. After seeing Alexei struggle with the move from 2B to SS...I think you are seeing the future of 3B in Beckham. I don't think the Sox are going to want to f*** around with moving him at this point. But that's JMO. Excellent unbiased article, btw.

How did you find your job?
QUOTE (The Beast @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) I wrote a letter to Brooks Boyer yesterday to set up an information interview with him, and I sent it out this morning. I want to see what kind of degree, internships and credentials I need to get a job in the sports industry. And if I don't end up in the sports industry but rather doing HR or something for a company, at least I tried pursuing what I enjoy, sports/writing/business material. St. Ambrose University is likely going to be the selection of my school because that has all of what I'm looking for. They'll let me write the material for the sports information department, I can get that business or PR degree and they have internships with sports organizations in the quad cities. Should work out pretty well. Good luck!

"More bunting"
QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) generally i agree. just because you liked to bunt ozzie doesn't make it the right thing for every team you manage... While that may be true, but it's a good way to manufacture runs when in a prolonged slump. This years team, no good. But a quicker team, absolutely, if used correctly.

2016 Olympics
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 08:01 AM) Agreed. It shouldn't have to be a kowtowing, throw money and fame at it sort of spectacle, but that is what the IOC is. Their level of corruption and sloth puts the City of Chicago to shame. So if he doesn't go, there is a serious chance they say no because of that (since its apparently a close race), and then people will say that Obama failed us. Well, that's sort of true, and sort of not. I hope he goes, and I'd guess he goes. People will say Obama failed us either way.

2010 Schedule released
So, if we are playing the NL East next year...what's PIT doing on the schedule? I don't necessarily WANT to play the Phils or Mets, but it seems weird that we have the other three teams then Pittsburgh out of the Central. Clues?

Last I saw, Michelle Obama is going to Copenhagen because Barack would rather concentrate on health care. Or at least he hasn't confirmed because of this. Also, there's a chance Oprah goes...*ugh*. "Welcome Jaaaaacques Rooooooooooooooogge!"
