  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) Grant me an explanation of what the hell that is and I'll consider it. God you're so much better at alcohol than me it's not funny He's got a hell of a lot more years on you Balta...a HELL OF A LOT! In fact...it's more than he's letting on.
  4. I love it...Daley wants less auto traffic in the CBD/Loop yet the CTA keeps raising prices. I know one doesn't have anything to do with the other directly, but indirectly...ugh!
  5. For some reason...BMG kept sending me boxes of CD's. Never got a follow up about buying another CD. But in college, I must have received about 6 boxes full of CDs, around 10-15 in each box. At first, I thought someone was playing a joke on me, but it was mostly music I would listen to, not C.M.B...anyway, I never figured it out, but kept the CDs! Never showed up on credit report, never got a phone call, never got a bill. Oh well, their loss, my gain. BTW, first two ALBUMS I got: The Stranger by Billy Joel and 21 at 33 by Elton John (both gifts) First two CDs I got: Beatles White Album and Kenny G - you may judge me now.
  6. All this liquor talk has given me a contact buzz.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) It's one game, on the road, against a damn good team. This will be a nice little jolt for the Hawks to realize that even though ESPN and SI pick them to win the Cup, they have to do the work. And to add...a team that had its home opener after coming home from a rotten European season-opening couple of games. This is one game...we'll see how it goes from there.
  8. And now we are trying to blow up the moon... /green cheese
  9. Just remember folks...the sequel is never as good as the original.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Of course you make perfect sense. I was thinking more in the abstract. How about this example Is this a symbol of God's covenant and should be taken down or is a Gay Pride symbol and left up? Who should decide? There are an awful lot of non believers that have crosses on their tombstones. I think Leprachauns should make the final choice...otherwise, where does the pot o' gold go?
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) To the legality of the situation. And that is what should matter here. Religion always muddies the issue.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Scalia's perspective on this is fairly assinine, but fortunately, I think the ultimate conclusion he will come to is the right one - to leave the cross in place. Just for the wrong reasons, IMO. Its irrelevant what religion is signified by that cross. To whom?
  13. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Interesting point. And while a bit sideways, there is a tiny bit of logic there. I'm having trouble explaining the point I am trying to make here, so bear with me. If I believe that someting is a honor and wish to bestow it on you, am I not honoring you? Even if you might not see it as an honor? It seems outrageous at first using this example, and I'm trying to think of another. Perhaps the tradition at Hawk games of cheering through the national anthem. Some people feel it is a terrible insult to every patriotic American, no matter the story behind it. But those that are cheering, and especially those that cheered at the inception during the Soviet Union game, it is an honor. And to those cheering, it also honors the very vets who may believe it is an insult. Clear as mud?? Who decides what is an honor and who it honors, the one doing the honoring or the one being honored? Both and they could be opposed? You can't please all of the people all of the time...that's for sure. But religion is not something to be toyed with in this case. While I understand where Scalia might be coming from...as a Jew, and not a practicing one in the least, I still wouldn't want a cross signifying my sacrifice, no matter the what the person who placed it there meant by it. I see three choices...either take it down, erect other symbols or replace it with something else honoring those people.
  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) You need way more deatils than were available at either of those links. Did husband shoot her with her own gun or his own gun? If it was his own, it would seem that in this case, having one didnt help. Althogh not having one wouldnt have helped either, so it would be a lose/lose situation all around. I don't see how her having the gun increased the probability at all, if the hubby had his own and was intent on killing her anyway. Did another story come out saying she was shot with her own gun? Your post seems to imply that. If she was stabbed to death or choked, it wouldn't be ironic. It's just the fact that she was shot, although I do know what you are saying.
  15. Jim...just consider the alternative.

    Is Jillian hot?

Maybe if she'd smile instead of snarl, I'd think she was better looking.
  17. QUOTE (Yoda @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Go to Wrigley Field. I heard some freaky and unexpected things have happened there. The Bartman/Alou room freaks me out. It's all guys dressed in Cub hats and circa 1984 Walkman headphones and guys peeing on their hands.
  18. I think the last time it was called New Town was probably 1981.
  19. Very nice store for runners in Austin, that RunTex. But Lance Armstrong's former wife allegedly had an affair with the owner.
  20. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) I think it's not irony so much as it is a statistically striking coincidence that the woman who became a gun rights poster child was killed by a gun. It's not a coincidence, however, that having guns in a household leads to a higher probability that something bad involving said guns will occur in that house. Unsecured guns and unsupervised children. Or in this instance, accessible guns and an emotionally distraught spouse. Those are bad things waiting to happen. My heart goes out to the children who have to live through it. Are you saying I had an Alanis Morrissette moment? And I agree with you and Tex about the kids...I feel awful for them.
