The What's Wrong with Rios Thread
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) He played for the Blue Jays. There has not been a much better team out there where you could relax and play than them as they are a winning team, but play in a division where they are not expected to do anything. He could relax and not worry about pressing for his team to make the playoffs because he's never been in a pennant race. Regardless, he's not been very good the past 3 years. True, but he, Vernon Wells and Roy Halladay were supposed to be the saviors of that team. The ones that would help them get over the Red Sox/Yankee hump. With the Sox (if they back up their talk), they'd rather win with pitching and defense, which would take some pressure off of Rios when it comes to hitting.

The What's Wrong with Rios Thread
He is lost out there, but I think that's more of him trying to hard. Next year, after he doesn't have to earn playing time and Ozzie tells him to just relax and play, he should, I repeat...should, get back to being a very good player. Plus, he's a huge upgrade in defense, which is always a good thing for this team.

Will KW continue to remake us into a speedier team?
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Deal Getz elsewhere then. I just would love to see Beltre's glove at third and Ross' glove in the OF. Ross should still be available. Beltre's glove would be awesome...his bat on the other hand........

Citizenship requirements to being President
QUOTE (Soxy @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) So what would you all think about an upper age limit on the presidency? Against. Old doesn't necessarily mean incapable. You can be in your 40's and 50's and be just as incapable. (see: 2001-2009; United States of America)

How did you find your job?
To all of you wondering what I was saying... I was talking about Argonne specifically, not going into PR generally... And Strange...she said that there was a lot of governmental red tape and as Hawk would say, Big Hat, no Cattle. They or she had a lot of great ideas, but like a lot of governmental organizations, by the time they get around to getting the money and then implementing any plans, 4 better ideas have come down the pike. Plus, you're dealing with scientists, too, while incredibly smart, aren't exactly the best when it comes to marketing/PR because for the most part, they aren't wired that way. But, if you are interested, please, don't let me sway you. You should find out for yourself. And Beast...after your first job, it really doesn't matter what your major is/was...as long as you are good at what you do.

Will KW continue to remake us into a speedier team?
I think Pods definitely deserves a chance...but not on the White Sox. This is one of those times you say, Thanks for the help, but we need to do something different going forward. We will help you any way we can.... Why? He's not a good base stealer anymore. He's never been good in the outfield. I have a feeling he will regress a bit next year. And, if you bring him back as a 4th outfielder, there's a better chance he's going to get hurt. At least if he's playing every day, he's loose. If you have him pinch running...I can pretty much guarantee you he'll pull a hammy. That's just Pods, unfortunately. He did everything he could do for this team, but he's not a player that's going to get the White Sox to the World Series...anymore.

Whats the highest value we could get
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) The only way you could trade Linebrink is if you took a bad contract back or paid most of his. If he was a douchebag, I'd say do that, but he's a decent guy with a lot of pride. Its not inconceivable he can find it again and be very useful. Keep him. Aren't he and Peavy good buds, too? Another reason to keep him, at least until the trade deadline to see what he's got left.

Citizenship requirements to being President
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) How about if you came at age whatever, you have to be naturalized for 35 years? I'm sure there are people that have been born in another country that are just as, if not more, patriotic than some people that were born in America, BUT...it just makes me uncomfortable for some reason. Nor should they be able to be VP or on the Supreme Court. Again, don't know why, just makes me uncomfortable.

How did you find your job?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Anyone know someone who works in the Communications and Public Relations department at Argonne? I know someone who used to be Director of Communications and her response to any job relating to that would be...DON'T DO IT!

U of I
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) What part of a kid doing gymnastics moves in front of a crowd at a sporting event while wearing tribal garb is respectful? Fine...then there is no middle ground like Russ and Tex have been saying. I don't care if the Seminole tribe is "ok" with it. I'm sure there are other tribes that find it disrespectful...so, goodbye. And to any other Native American mascot...goodbye. I'm not sure how old you are...you may have been at U of I when I was there in the early 90's, but the problem mostly had to do with listening. As in, no one was doing it. Either side. The U of I was spinning it based on the fact that the outfit was traditional Sioux and the dance was passed down (also Sioux, I believe). The opposition was saying, it's disrespectful, end of story and I don't care what you have to say about it. In the end, after a few more years, it won't matter anymore. What's done is done. What's sad is vocal minority won with no discussion other than, "OK, we just need to end this now."

Peter King picks Bears for Super Bowl
I'll make my SB picks right before the SB. I mean, come ON...who woulda thunk that the AZ Cardinals would have made it? And gave the Steelers, who are the MUCH better team, a damn good game? Any Given Sunday is right!

2016 Olympics
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) From what I've been told, Rio is currently in the lead with Chicago a close 2nd, followed by Madrid and Tokyo. Tokyo has a VERY slim chance. By whom??? And the IOC doesn't have the stones to give it to Rio. They are trying to scare Chicago into getting their s*** together. Madrid is too close to Barcelona (I mean, timing-wise). South America will get the Olympics, but they aren't ready yet. Plus, this would be one FANTASTIC way to stick it to NY. "Oh, YOU guys lost to London for the 2012 games...that sucks. Did we mention we got the 2016 Games? How'd you like THEM Big Apples?!"

How did you find your job?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) Having a connection at a company (friend, former co-worker, etc.) is far and away the best way to go, in terms of success rate. If that fails, next best is using recruiters/headhunters to find you a job. Sending in resumes blind should be the last choice, though sometimes you have no other choice. In this case...a guy I used to work with is connected to a guy working at the place. Hopefully, it works. Probably won't hear anything about an interview this week because of Labor Day. Keep yer fingers crossed!

How did you find your job?
Last job, before I was laid off, I found thru Craigslist. Right now, besides trolling the job boards...trying to find anyone that works at the place I'm applying to through LinkedIn or Facebook and then seeing how I might be connected to them. We'll see how this works...all they can do it get me in the door...after that, it's up to me.
