  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 1, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) Well lefty Matt Harrison will go for the Rangers on Sunday so we'll see either Lillibridge or Pods in the leadoff spot then. Perhaps he'll have Pods leadoff against McCarthy tomorrow for old time's sake? You think he would put Pods in a Leadoff lefty on lefty matchup?
  2. And don't forget he had a small part in one of the best baseball movies of all time: Bull Durham. RIP.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) I was all for signing Pods and replacing Owens with him. He is better than Jerry, and I hope Pods does well. I really do. The reality is he probably won't. I've been his biggest critic on this board even during his "magical" 2005 season when he scored 80 runs, drove in 25 and had an OPS of .700, and the only thing he led the league in was Caught Stealing. (KW are you reading? Maybe I can help you in your arb cases) You may say his runs are the product of others, and I would mostly agree although driving yourself in does have its advantages. He scored a pedestrian 80 runs in 2005. Everyone would say he distracted pitchers so much that year. If he really was such a distraction, why did he only score 80 times? He only drove in 25. Now you can say that isn't his fault, your teammates have a lot to do with that, but isn't it strange the 8th, 9th and 2nd place hitters drove in at least double that? Pods was 0-7 with 1 rbi with the bases loaded that year. The run scored on a walk. If that were BA, he wouldn't be an MVP candidate but the reason for Swine Flu. Wasn't he injured part of the season? What would his Runs Scored be if he played 162 games or wasn't on the DL? 100? 110??
  4. QUOTE (tommy @ May 1, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) Podsednik suppose to be in the lineup, do you bat him 9th or lead him off and move Getz to two spot? CanOfCorn's answer: 9th Ozzie's answer: 1st
  5. QUOTE (mreye @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) He's bad at golf too? Coop'll fix him...wait? What were we talking about again?
  6. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 1, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) WOW!!!! Darren Pang was on the SCORE this morning and basically spent 20 minutes saying the exact same thing you did above. The Bowman thign was intriguing. I get the feeling there could be something done with him over the offseason. Campbell makes too much to be moved. Krush...that was awesome. I will add this, though. I think that the comeback, even though it fell short, but a nugget of doubt in the Nucks heads. Not saying it's going to carry the 'hawks past them, but Lu is going to have to work a lot harder against the 'hawks than he did against the Blues. And they have to be thinking no lead is ever safe...which could tighten them up a bit. A bad loss, but not a killer loss. Hopefully Toews will be back on the ice his normal amount and the 'hawks can take game 2.
  7. I hope Feldman doesn't add his name to the pamphlet of Famous Jewish Sports Legends.
  8. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) This sums up my feelings. I love Mark, hes probably my favorite White Sox pitcher of all time, but he's not a HOF. Yes he is...a White Sox Hall of Famer!
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) My parents don't use the internet much, but my dad recently asked me what was a good, cheap option. I assumed some sort of dial-up, but I don't know. I've always just used Comcast or Verizon. Can anyone suggest a good one? The library.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) So going back to all of the economy/attendance/payroll arguements we had over the winter, I actually went in and checked what our attendance #'s looked like this year so far, to the same point last year. Through 12 games this year we are averaging 24,608. Through the same point last year, we averaged 26,095. In other words there are about 10% less people at ballgames this year. Couple that reality with the big losses in sponsorships that Jerry has been talking about, and this franchise could have been in major trouble financially, if they hadn't have made the move to raise revenues and cuts costs somehow. It might not be the best thing for the team on the field, but the reality is that the Sox were either going to cut a little bit now, or a whole helluva a lot later. Watch and see the losses that Detroit is going to take this year, and the huge purge that is going to take place up there, and tell me if you would rather see that happen here, or the way that JR and the Sox have done things. The revenue picture you are trying to paint just isn't real. At best the Sox are probably even on ticket revenue (with the fall at the turnstiles getting balanced by the raise in ticket prices), and losing money on concessions, parking, and advertising versus last year. Thank you! This is the difference between laying off a couple of people to save the whole vs. waiting til the whole kit and kaboodle goes to hell in a handbasket and you have to have a fire sale. What the White Sox did was protect themselves financially in the short term while still remaining competitive. And I still don't want any of the CF options that were possibly coming to the White Sox...well, maybe Coco Crisp.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) See, that's the problem... If our young guys are producing, we can't be confident in it because they're still young guys and they could regress. By the time we're confident in them though...they're old slow veterans who we need to replace with young guys because they're old and might start regressing any day. There is that one day, around 28 years old, when White Sox players are in their prime. Hopefully, it isn't a Sunday.
  12. On Mully and Hanley this morning, Don Cooper was saying that it's all mental and that going to a place, like the Nationals, might be good for him. Also, he said that MMac has a bad "case of the yips."
  13. FWIW...Scott Burnside of ESPN chose the 'hawks in 7.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) That would be a joke. If Jim Thome can't go then Wilson Betemit is your DH. Or...Dye is DH, CQ moves to RF and Pods in LF.
  15. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Thank you. But, it doesn't have the automatic location like a landline does. Not a huge deal, but with a landline, they know your address. With an E911, you have to tell them. Probably never use it, but my wife liked the security of it.

    Wouldja?

I'm sure there are reasons to pay points...but every person I've talked to, mortgage brokers, realtors and friends have all said, never pay points. I have never been offered enough for it to make a difference, but I don't trust (potentially) paying that much up front.
  17. Scott Podsednik has done more in his career than either Jerry Owens or Dewayne Wise. The Devil you know is better than the Devil you don't...and that pretty much would sum up this move.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) If you looked at his BABIP and some other sabermetric stats that I either don't know the name of or forgot, he was pretty lucky last year. What's even more intriguing is that he had about a 1 ERA in his first 8 starts and then a ERA near the mid 4s for the rest of the year. Gavin's still not there yet. As much as Ozzie wants to praise the guy, he's not a 20 game winner nor is he one of the best pitchers in league. He has the potential to be one, but his inability to find the curveball at his leisure is stopping him from becoming that kind of pitcher. When he doesn't have his stuff, he'll battle. But most of the time, the battle ain't pretty. I don't think he really had it today, but he battled and came out of it fine. Bottom line: Gavin Floyd, at this point, is a third starter on a lot of teams in baseball. The future is bright, but you're probably not going to see 17 wins and a 3.84 ERA out of him this year. Interesting...because the main knock on him coming from the Phillies is that he wouldn't battle. He would get knocked around, which would rattle him, and down goes Floyd. He's only 26 and he's making progress. And, you do realize, he's the second/third starter on this team.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Fox News's new Fox Nation website this morning: Fair and balanced.
