QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 02:42 AM) I still don't get that damn WCIU HD channel though I did get ESPN2HD today which was awesome for World Cup action. Do you have Comcast? Hopefully they finally came to terms...

Jermaine Dye baseball's MVP?
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 04:01 AM) It's a long way to go, but if the season ended today, would Jermaine Dye be the league's MVP? He has a .316 BA. He is second in the AL in homers (Behind Thome) with 19. He has 46 RBI (the league leader has 53....also Thome). He has a league leading .677 slugging percentage. A .411 OBP, top 10 in the league and a league best 1.086 OPS. (#2 on the list is Jim Thome). Could you make a case for Jim Thome? What about other players around the league? Discuss.

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the national TV deal they signed with WGN.

Hangar18's Chicago NewsMedia Watch Thread
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) Since you say youve established that the SOX have dominated the Cubs in Media Coverage, you wouldnt happen to have any documentation/statistics/proof to validate this claim would you? Im curious because it sure seems quite the opposite. Especially in the last 10 years. No, because unlike you, I have come to accept the fact that the Cubs have a bigger fan-base, and therefore are going to get more news coverage. That's life. Unlike you, I have decided not to waste my time starting a jealous rage campaign with apparently made-up numbers.

A 1. Germany 2. Ecuador 3. Costa Rica 4. Poland It's going to be tough for Costa Rica to get through since they lead off with the hosts or else I would take them. I don't know about Poland, I just don't like 2 European teams getting through here. B 1. England 2. Sweden 3. Paraguay 4. Trinidad and Tobago Sweden really isn't spectacular, but they got lucky and will only have to face off against the last teams to qualify out of North and South America. C 1. Holland 2. Argentina 3. Serbia and Montenegro 4. Ivory Coast This is the GoD, but I believe both Holland and Argentina are much better than the other two. D 1. Portugal 2. Iran 3. Mexico 4. Angola Going out on a limb just because Mexico has been down as of late. E 1. Italy 2. United States 3. Czech Republic 4. Ghana The US will need the '02 magic to advance, but I think they can capture it. F 1. Brazil 2. Croatia 3. Japan 4. Austrailia I don't think either Japan or Austrailia will provide much of a challenge. G 1. France 2. South Korea 3. Switzerland 4. Togo Go Togo! H 1. Saudi Arabia 2. Spain 3. Ukraine 4. Tunisia I had to go out on a limb somewhere, so this is it. Despite being the worst pool, I like Spain as my struggling European power, but I think they'll still get through. Saudi Arabia rolled through Asian qualifying, so I like them to take this group. Second Round Germany over Sweden Holland over Iran England over Ecuador Argentina over Portugal Croatia over Italy Spain over France Brazil over US Saudi Arabia over South Korea Quarters Holland over Germany Argentina over England Spain over Croatia Brazil over Saudi Arabia Semi's Holland over Argentina Spain over Brazil Championship Spain over Holland

RUMOR
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) Whether or not there is a test for HGH yet is a point of debate, with contradicting stories from all kinds of people. Some I've heard say there is an HGH test through a blood test that was ready just in time for Turin, others have said they did the blood tests and kept samples "retroactively", so that when there is an HGH test ready, then can go back and check the blood samples for it. That issue is VERY confusing. IIIRC, both cases are actually correct. Their not sure if the current tests for HGH actually work, so their being cautious with it and also storing the blood just in case.

RUMOR
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:21 AM) I was actually suspicious of his 2004 vs 2005 stats, as well as many other players. Not to turn this into a Pods thread, but I doubt it. His HR numbers came at the expense of all of his other stats. I think his numbers were a change in hitting style.

RUMOR
IMO, it'd be worse for baseball to see guys like Pujols and Alex Rodriguez(Note: A-Rod has never been connected to anything, but he fits the category of young stud trying to save baseball) get caught than to see Bonds, McGwire, or Sosa go down.

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:50 AM) Along those same lines, and probably of at least passing interest to many Chicagoans, the Poland vs. Ecuador match tomorrow will be an awesome scene with a stadium 90% or more full of Poles. I'm looking forward to that match more than Germany/Costa Rica tomorrow for that reason and because that match will probably determine the second team to make it out of that group (Hopefully it's Poland). My VCR will be out of gas by the end of this month. I'm one of the few Americans that the '94 WC had a big impact on. As far as anticipation of a sporting event, MLB Opening Day is the only thing that beats the World Cup for me. (I love college basketball too, but the WC beats out the NCAA tourn. because of the once every four years thing). I was only 5, but I remember the '94 World Cup and loved every minute of it. Attending the games live was absolutly amazing. I remember the crowds marching miles and miles in huge bunches to attend the game. And now I can't frickin wait for tommorrow. Counting down the hours.
