Yearly Baseball Prospectus PECOTA Season forecast
Wedge replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here's a paragraph from Nate Silver's book: -
I'm concerned this means that AJ isn't coming back. That's two pretty big holes at 3B and catcher, which are really hard spots to fill. http://www.bloguin.com/theoutsidecorner/20...t-catchers.html Napoli and Martin might be upgrades from AJ, but those dudes are gonna get paid. After that, I don't like much of what's out there. Does the organization think Flowers is an everyday catcher?
-
Move the team to the suburbs or a different, baseball-less city.
-
I'd rather save that $9.5 million for something else (like a 3B or an ace reliever). I think you can get a similar contribution out of the farm system. Still, Floyd wouldn't be $10 million awfully spent, either.
-
I wouldn't call this so much a "choke" as it is a "wasted opportunity". In my view, this year has much more to do with the Tigers not matching expectations for most of the season than it does with the Sox playing all that well. It's not like the Sox were ever really on pace to be a 90-95 win team and even if the Tigers win out, they'll only be a 90 win squad. Hell, it's not even like the Sox contributed to the Tigers' woes: they went 6-12 against Detroit (2-8 after the All Star break).

Coke's a helluva drug

Say it ain't so, AJ!

Youkilis just gets big hit after big hit. Jeesus.

It feels like Crain's blown every game he comes in any more.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 04:44 PM) Motown worried about Cabrera's ankle. It doesn't seem serious (perhaps a sprain) but if it hasn't gotten better for 3 weeks, it isn't going to get better playing on it every day. They better amputate, just to be safe.

White Sox! f*** yeah! :usa

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 12:06 AM) So where's the love for Robin's move to keep Floyd on a very tight leash and get him out of there? I'm not scanning the game thread, but I really see Floyd leaving the game as our big turning point. Don't forget that Robin is a complete and utter boob for leaving in Santiago two batters too long.

QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) I mad that we didnt take advantage of that s***. I am surrounded by Cub fans for friends. They gave me so much s*** about that KC series. They text me non stop when the Sox lose. I want this team to win so f***ing bad just so I can rub it in their f***ing faces, that I get so pissed when they don't Especially againsy the weak teams. I suggest you get new friends.

This might sound crazy, but Floyd at $9.5 might be more worthwhile than Liriano at the same amount. At least you're reasonably confident Floyd will be healthy, but that's a big concern with Liriano.

White Sox next four series: KC Oakland @Toronto @KC Detroit next four series: NYY @Texas @MIN Baltimore Ventura and co must be thinking they can build some separation from Detroit. Maybe if we're up by a more comfortable margin they'll reinstate the 6 man rotation.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) Yeah I don't know about this. I understand Humber is awful, but Sale & Peavy need to be pitching effectively down the stretch and I think extra rest will allow that to happen... There's 45 games left. We can't afford to piss away 7 of them with a Humber start. Downside is that there's only 3 off days in those final 45 games.

This per Merkin's twitter. Cooper said so on his Sunday night radio show.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) You don't think Rios will kick it into 5th gear after listening to a Ventura pep talk?
-
Unless he's willing to come back for $10m/year I think we're better off investing in another year of Youkilis.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) If Beckham has any value at all, I'd trade him and begin the parade of journeymen second basemen. It's not a critical position. There's no way Beckham is going to be a star, so get something for him this winter and bring in Grudzelanik types (I realize he's retired) or Getz fill in types. Let somebody else try to get Beckham to use a smaller bat and become a singles, doubles hitter. I think Beckham's another Betancourt/Lillibridge type guy who thinks he's a power bat when he's not. That's the thing though, it's pretty hard to find a second baseman who can hit, so if you can find one of them it's a huge value. I think you have to hold onto the hope that he can recapture his rookie form. And that potential is more likely/valuable than what a journeyman provides. Plus, the dude still has two more cheap years. I'm all aboard for trying to develop another second base option in our system somehow, but this is another Zach Stewart situation. Even if the guy isn't very good, he has value and you can't just cut him outright.
