The ironic thing is that I don't think getting Bryce, while having to move all their resources to free up space, would make the Cubs that much better. His awful defense would really hurt their run prevention.

It wouldn't be, it would be something like 8/300 with an opt-out after 3 or 4 years. That gives him a lot of opportunities down the road he doesn't have right now, including playing for the Yankees or if a team starts up in Vegas.

Couldn’t one argue that Reinsdorf does it by choice and doesn’t believe any player is worth “X” amount? I agree the Sox would get a much bigger bounce from signing Bryce, but it’s also extremely likely there were 2 or 3 places that Bryce would agree to play. It might be up to those places to make their best offer while using Sox to increase the bid.

How is this any different than the Sox?
