QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:40 AM) I just hate that Fowler doesn't do anything to improve the OF defense. If he were a good defender, I'd be fine with it. Remember when Hahn said any addition would have to be a good fit? Absolutely thought at the time he meant that Fowler wouldn't help the defense.

Simplest solution is they have no money left

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:15 PM) if they "promised" him that already then they really don't have much confidence in Johnson at all. Some strange things relating to Johnson over the last few years: - inexplicable velocity drop - going to an outside source for help - rumor that Sox were looking to trade him
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Just to point out roster is now full. There has to be at least one more bat brought in, as right now there's no one to push LaRoche.

I think Latos has a much better chance of rebounding than Lincecum

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Just makes you wonder what is really up with Latos when Fister, Arroyo, and Masterson all got deals with the possibility to make double what Latos got. As everyone here noted his peripherals were for the most part good and his velocity was even up a tick. Plus he's still under 30. The writing is on the wall for a very plausible bounce back and there was literally 0 market for him? Just doesn't make any sense. Either he's the world's biggest douche or there's something else up we don't know about. Or he really wanted to go somewhere that would promise him a starting spot?

From mlbtraderumors chat: 2:08 Justin: Thoughts on Latos to WSox? 2:09 Steve Adams: Pretty stunned that the deal is $3MM without any sort of incentives. There are tons of reports of Latos' clubhouse persona being a negative, and I've heard from a couple execs who were very averse to the thought of adding him to their clubhouse, but I still expected a bigger guarantee. Love it for the Sox.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) Better yet, Puig. You have been pretty outspoken about his character issues, what stories are you going on? For Latos, it's just general reputation. Seen some stuff on twitter in last 15 minutes by writers for other teams saying he's a horrible clubhouse person. Colin DunlapVerified account @colin_dunlap 48m48 minutes ago I can't get mad at Pirates for not bringing in Mat Latos. Heard from many he's one of worst clubhouse guys out there. Atrocious teammate.

Might as well turn full heel (bad guy) and trade for Braun
-
40 man is full now, FYI
-
Latos might be a terrible person, but even he has to know this might be his last chance at getting a MLB contract. Lots of motivation for him in 2016.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 07:53 PM) I'm just surprised Baltimore didn't take a chance on him or offer him more than $3 million, their rotation is projected for 2nd worst in baseball. Seems like they're the favorites to sign Gallardo. That won't go well
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) The only things I can see is he somehow burned his bridges out of Cincinnati and was pretty upset with how the Dodgers used him. I am sure Frazier was consulted about his perceived clubhouse issues, and they signed him, so it probably isn't nearly as bad as rumored. There were rumors about his attitude as far back to his first few years in San Diego
-
Just hope we don't see a follow-up tweet saying Sox are done
-
Time for Bulls to sign Will Bynum and take over his home town
-
Didn't someone tweet out the Sox signed him like 5 weeks ago, only to delete it?
-
Crazy that Latos is only 28. Between him and Avila (29), it might be the oldest looking under 30 battery in history.

Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 12m12 minutes ago Mat Latos arrived in Chicago yesterday for physical. #WhiteSox

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 08:09 PM) So now Erik Johnson is traded for an OF? was just coming to type this. Sure seems like he was told he'd be given a starting spot based off of Cotillo's source's comment.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 07:03 PM) Latos still had solid peripherals last year. Honestly expected him to sign somewhere for $8-10 million, great move for that price. I assume there will be incentives in there though. No incentives according to Cotillo, which is amazing
-
I love the gamble, especially with a low base salary. Erik Johnson is definitely on the hot seat.
-
All I remember about Gallardo last year is Stone ripping on him when he faced the Sox for how bad his stuff and command was.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) Nobody has signed Fowler or Desmond or Jackson. So it's just not the White Sox. Apparently, either their demands are still too high or every team is out of money. The other day, Boras said that 3 teams in the majors don't have a legit CF, and he's trying to sell Jackson to them. Brewers have to be one of them, and if I had to guess, the Cubs and Rangers are the other two.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) "Bounce back" or "rebound" implies that the player in question was good in the past but then had a bad year. That doesn't really fit for Garcia or Johnson, and Webb and Turner are stretches as well. You can't bounce back if there was nothing to bounce back to. Ventura also seems out of place on the list. For most of these guys, like you said, the Sox would need a breakout season from them and not a rebound season. A good majority of that list could easily find themselves out of the majors come 2017.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 09:16 PM) Pods, Cotts, Politte, Crede, Contreras, Garland, Hermanson. 7 needed a pretty big rebound in 2005 as well. Most of those guys weren't nearly as bad in 2004 as the 7 listed in the article were in 2015. Only Cotts had a negative WAR in 2004 I believe.
