Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) No but the returns were also pretty unrealistic that we were thinking of The Rangers being crazy in what they gave up for Garza didn't help with regards to expectations

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:10 PM) Pretty s*** deadline to be honest. Meh return for Peavy. No money kicked in at all and neither Rios or Alexei moved. I'm fine with the Peavy trade, but a few weeks ago, we were all excited to have the best starter, reliever and outfielder on the market. Only ending up with Garcia, 3 lower level guys and future considerations is not what any of us had in mind.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) You know damn well he's going to go on a tear now. Probably have another 6 hit game tonight. Good, then maybe someone will offer more via waiver trade

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) That captain question was in jest, I believe. Yes and no...I do wonder who will be the clubhouse leader, and like Jake said, I expect it is Beckham

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) My one hope is that these same guys had infinitely better levels of on the field focus and intelligence last season. Whatever it was that changed for this roster this year...that change can go back. If Konerko retires, who would be next in line to be captain of the Sox?

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) If you are willing to keep him only to deal him at the next deadline, you are going to spend quite a significant chunk of money and tie-up a roster spot which could be filled by Garcia or Thompson (Trayce is raw but I'd think in a rebuilding year the plan would be for him to be on the big squad starting as early as next season). Seems to me in that case, you might be behooved to kick some salary to the team acquiring Rios to speed the process up (and ensure you get some prospects back now...who can help kick start the rebuilding process a little sooner). There will be an open spot in LF most likely after this year with Viciedo going to DH or 1B

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
Ian Kennedy and Bud Norris not exactly bringing in much in return. As it is now, Rangers overpaid like crazy for Garza.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) To me it clearly means "low ceiling" Heyman made it sound like they're not even prospects

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:18 PM) Rios is not a bad player. If we're just eating money to not have him on our team, it makes no sense to do that. I'm with DA on this one...there is no reason to pay Rios to play for another team. If we were bulging at the seams with mlb-ready talent, it would be one thing. But we aren't. Totally agree

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
Maybe I'm naive, but today makes me believe the Sox truly do feel they can contend next year.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) What does that term mean, btw? Just filler? Yes

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
Heyman said the Pirates offered organizational type prospects for Rios.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) If you don't eat the money, I'm not sure you'll find a deal at all. I can't imagine anyone trading for Rios and taking on the rest of his contract without the Sox adding money.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:03 PM) It will shock me if Rangers don't do anything. Sounds like they're trying to talk Cruz into appealing

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
Verducci seemed to love the deal for the White Sox

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:06 PM) Bowden said at this point everyone waits until the very end to report their trades so that their rivals don't have time to react. Nice info, thanks

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
The player the Sox should be trying to pay money for in order to get someone to take him is Keppinger.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) How sorry. Why? Rios' value is extremely low right now, and it's not like he's a terrible player that the Sox need to do everything in their power to get rid of. Some of these deals suggesting paying a majority of his remaining contract only to get an average prospect seems like a bad deal for the organization.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:54 PM) With everyone, honestly. I am hoping there will be a slew of trades in the next two hours. As of now, Ian Kennedy will be the biggest name traded today.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
Surprising how quiet it is with the White Sox today
-
Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) I still think they made a good deal. It's not like we were trading Cliff Lee. It's Jake Peavy. Yeah, it was a solid deal that hopefully the team uses the 20 million to improve the team's future.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) They were trying to be nice but yeah that didn't sound too promising ha. Yeah, Mayo was less than enthused about those 3

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
If you trade Alexei today, it wouldn't hurt to give Beckham a tryout at SS the rest of the way.
