QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Some interesting comments on here. For those of you that asked why Quentin is involved in this you should understand that I am not suggesting anything. What gave me this idea was looking at the AAA stats and seeing that Viciedo, Milledge and De Aza are all mashing right now and playing well. Then, I saw Danks who is not hitting as well but better and he is clearly the best defensive OFer in Charlotte and maybe in Chicago. So, the idea came, what if we had these 4 in Chicago right now? Assuming Danks would play CF regularly because he couldn't be platooned with Milledge or Viciedo (maybe Lillibridge) and De Aza would be the regular RFer with Milledge and Viciedo splitting LF and DH. My thinking is that Danks probably wouldn't produce even Rios numbers offensively and Rios does have the potential for a lot more. I have a feeling that De Aza would do pretty well right now if brought up and his production only exceeded by Quentin. However, he would be a good threat on the bases. Milledge's bat might surprise some. I guess my point is that the Sox probably wouldn't lose much if they changed out these 4 right now which is sad considering the salaries involved. To be honest, people care way too much about AAA stats on here.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) Like previously said, the "hate" referred to when talking about Jordan Danks is the fact that right now he's nothing but a good defender up to AAA standards. Remember Brian Anderson? That's all he is right now. Therefore, it's laughable that he's even in this poll as an option to bring up and "help" a major league baseball team. From people I've talked to in the past, they've seen Danks' swing and don't think he'll have a prayer against MLB competition.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) I don't see that at all, but I do think Juan Pierre, who to his credit is a hardworking guy, might be someone another contender might take from us. What we would get back is questionable, but it would open a spot for Viciedo. I still hold on to the idea of Viciedo and Quentin in the corner spots. Plus apprently AL players see a real positive in CQ as they put him on the all-star team. I like CQ a lot too. He hustles all the time and when hot can carry a team. A bit steaky but a lot of power hitters are You really think teams care about that to bring in a very below average player?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Maybe so on a bad deal for Beltran. It is getting intersting over there with the Mets and possible trades though. Beltran has been mentioned. Rios has fallen out of favor with a lot of our fans and maybe with management and we might need a new CF'er. Am I correct in thinking that Rios makes more than Beltran? I am sure the Mets wouldn't do that kind of swap would they? Crazy stuff Why in the heck would the Mets want to take on payroll while bringing in a worse player than Beltran? MLBTR saying today that Mets are looking for a big time prospect in return for Beltran and cash.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) The Mets basically just saved themselves the option. The two players they are getting arent anything. It's really a fantastic trade for Milwaukee as long as they don't let his option kick in.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) one thing is for damn sure, Punk is going to OWN the allstate arena next week Got my tickets today, looking forward to that last match as much as any match I've attended live. I do love the references to Punk riding down on the side of Cena's car back in 2006 at WM.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) They could probably get something better than Jackson for him, right? Atlanta seems to be a significantly better trade partner for Rasmus. However, if you can trade Danks for Rasmus and Quentin for Beachy, then sign me up.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) no question about it. expecting him to be better than Carlos is asking a lot. wanting to replace Carlos with Dayan doesn't make us any better Yep, if you actually want to contend next year, I really hope our outfield is Quentin/Rios/Viciedo.
-
I'd take Viciedo over anyone else in our outfield besides Quentin.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) The fact that they're both 1.5 away from Free Agency seems to make that very unlikely. But it's Kenny Williams, and he tried to get Sanchez when he offered Crede to the Giants.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) Yep, I know we've seen the Phillies have have been looking for a RH power-hitter in the outfield for the better part of the season now. Phillies have some strong pitching prospects on their Clearwater team.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Both of those teams make a ton of sense as well. As does KW's reply. I fear a Quentin for J. Sanchez trade

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) There's an emotional connection there though since part of Rongey's job is to toe the company line, even if he personally doesn't make the choices. I think it has more to do with Rongey seemingly always supporting anything and everything Ozzie and the Sox do, and when someone disagrees with him, he acts in a condescending way. It is what it is...he's a host and not a baseball expert, no big deal.

The Cano story was enjoyable to watch last night, especially for anyone with a son. As for the celebrity game, I can't believe how bad the production of that was from ESPN.

QUOTE (ParkerBear7 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 05:44 AM) Ozzie Guillen: Now let me talk about the man you most want gone: Ozzie. I love Ozzie's fire and passion for the game and how he is not afraid to mix it up. Yes, I also agree that his rants grow old from time to time. Question: is it hypocritical if Sox fans who also are Bears fan could love this same passion and fire that we all loved in Coach Ditka who happened to be the last famous Head Coach to win a major championship before the Black Hawks? Yes, Ditka finally wore out his welcome with management and I am not saying Ozzie will not eventually do the same. I think managing baseball has to be the hardest sport too manager as the season is so long with fewest playoff spots. Not an excuse but a reality of baseballs current format. Now it is impossible for me to follow the sox as close as when I lived in Chicago but your demand for Ozzie to be fired is not going to solve the problem. Firing Ozzie will only accomplish one thing, last place and a lame duck manager such like past managers like Terry "boomer" Bevington, Jerry Manual, Gene Lamont etc. Here is an alternative for your axe to grind: Why not give credit where credit is due...the players deserve credit for how this season has gone so far due to performance. Last time I checked, the 2007 Sox had a lower winning percentage that year than Bevington, Manuel or Lamont ever had as a Sox manager.

What's up with M. Creek? -
I'm sure our players like Ozzie, but I don't know if they respond to his tactics very well anymore. You'll see quotes by Konerko saying "that's just Ozzie being Ozzie".

I was blown away by the overall talent level in this game. It really was well played. Saw nothing to dislike with Viciedo, as he took his same ferocious swings and definitely has a nice presence at the plate.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) The Sox as an organization is a mess, the byproduct of a GM simply out of control...very little restraint to resist adding to the baseball card collection...and Ozzie has managed as poorly this year as he ever has. Alex Rios, Jake Peavy, Adam Dunn are trash. Terribly overpaid and now the Sox are stuck with them. I'd rather have saved the money on someone who cared more (than Rios), who could do more than 1 thing (like Dunn) and didn't have the washed up look about them (like Peavy). Pierre is finished as a viable leadoff hitter...his OBP and OPS are as usual meager, but now he is stealing bases at a 55% clip. But of course, he makes up for it by not being able to throw a baseball further than 20 feet. Konerko gets a fat raise and goes out and plays great ball. AJP is also playing championship baseball. Mark Buehrle ditto...it seems the few players remaining from the 2005 team are still OUR best. Adding to his baseball card collection has done jack for Ken Williams. He has been exposed as a GM. Taking other peoples big name dead weight off their hands so he can keep his cred as an 'aggressive' GM. He is now the GM of a group of the most listless guys in baseball. Kudos KW. As for the players, I am all for raking on guys, but lay of Beckham, he is still a young player. This isn't an easy game, it takes time to adjust. His at bats over the past 10-15 games are very good. He's coming around. You can't get a talented prospect and not allow him a chance to learn/grow. Gordo's learning curve would be a non-issue if the veterans on this team were worth a crap. This is really a great post

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 12:51 AM) Peavy's arm is like falling off, thanks to the fact that we didn't give him extended rest after he pitched in relief (which was assinine). Now we aren't going to push him to the very end to give him extended rest? Why? Why? Why? This is just crazy, as I said in the game thread, we treated Peavy like Terry Mulholland his rubber arm used to be treated. Just put his ass on the DL, it's not like he's been effective anyways. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6203656.story
