  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 07:02 PM) Philly's offense looks pathetic. The NL lineups look awful! Did everyone good FA sign with AL teams or something?
  2. I like Dunn's chances for a home run due to Carmona's sinker playing into Dunn's ability to hit the low fastball. Let's go Sox!
  3. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 02:26 AM) I don't think that the Cubs are going to be as bad as most think this season. In fact, they could be very good. They have a very solid starting five and a killer back end of the bullpen. If Mike Quade was smart he'd bench Fukudome and start Colvin in right, and lead off Castro. The only questions are if the middle of their order is declining so much that they aren't going to score enough runs, and are the middle relievers going to get anyone out. I'm not a Cubs fan by any means, but if you really think about it they really aren't that bad and they could finish first as easily as third or fourth. The NLC is just as competitive, IMO, as the ALC, but the ALC has better quality teams. I think 86-89 wins will win the NLC. I'm with you in that I don't see why people think they're going to be terrible. Obviously, they'll need Zambrano post-meltdown as opposed to how he was prior to it.
  4. Cardinals looked terrible today. Their relievers had nothing. They might be the most fragile team in the majors.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) And I don't buy into Williams not being a good recruiter, his programs constantly recruit. Maybe it isn't directly because of him being the pitch-man and he has assistants that do it, but the guy routinely is pulling some of the top recruits in the country. Williams is infamous for his recruiting misses. McD AA to Maryland have been few and far between since they won the title.
  6. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) Is he still considered a rookie??? or did those 20 innings last year disqualify him, if hes a rookie hes hands down my NL ROY if the braves stick strictly with him and not split time with venters. I doubt he qualifies, even though BA ranked him in their top 100 prospects (and way too low, might I add)
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) When you do it multiple timese (e.g., multiple tourney appearances). And no, I'm not saying he needs to get his team back to the final 4. And I think the ease of recruiting and what goes on in the recruiting process isn't near what some of you think. He's going to go in and recruit with some major players on these guys. Who are you going to listen to: Shaka or a Coach K, a Roy/Gary Williams, Self, even a Painter or Weber, who have all proven a lot more and won a lot more in there tenure and in a major conference. Matt Painter and Gary Williams are pretty dreadful recruiters. No doubt in my mind that Shaka at a big program would recruit significantly better than Painter and Williams and a Jerrance-less Weber would.
  8. Kimbrel on the Braves is going to have a monster year. Ridiculous K numbers last season.
  9. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) I just can not see the cubs competing with the Brewers or Reds and the Cardinals are always there. I feel like Reds are due for a huge letdown season, as could be one of those years where pitching is down for them due to high-pressured innings last year. If Greinke can get healthy, Brewers can win this division. I do think the Cubs lineup will be pretty solid for the first few months until Fukudome and Soriano fade away.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) If you thought the Padres had a weak lineup even with AGon, check it out without him. Very underwhelmed by a lot of the lineups I've seen posted today.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) He would certainly be on my short list for Illinois just not at the top. I'm just more pointing out how ridiculous it is national that suddenly Smart is this brilliant coach based on a fluke 5 game run. The thing that sucks is Smart and Mooney were options 1 and 2 for the GT job, but their tourney runs priced them out of GT's budget. Go back and check my posts from a month ago or so about the GT opening on here.
  12. I'd take Shaka above all these other coaches being hired or rumored to be up for jobs like Gregory, Weber, and Painter. Shaka was known as a terrific recruiter prior to this season, and you're nuts if you don't think players will want to play for him if he was at a power 6 conference job. I've been very impressed with how under control his team plays despite playing a fast style.
  13. Not very impressed by the opening day lineups for the Brewers and Reds. Kotsay starting for Milwaukee in RF! I really feel like White Sox and Twins have two of the deepest lineups in baseball.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) I like to see the delicate balance between people who hated Weber during the season yet want him to stay. Its a tough situation to be in. Of course he will stay, underachieve, and will be ridiculed for yet another season. As someone that hates Illinois, the worst thing that could happen would be for Weber to leave. I can't see how they wouldn't bring in a better coach. As long as Jerrance is on the bench, recruiting will be fine.
  15. Went to McDonald's game last night, and I thought the talent on the court was as bad as I've seen in a McDonald's game. Davis looked agile and should be a top 3 pick after his freshman year. Besides that, there wasn't a single guy out there that was a can't miss prospect. Beal and Rivers are impressive and I'm sure they'll be studs in college, and I actually thought Rock's guy Amir Williams showed a lot of potential. I really hope IU isn't planning on Zeller being a savior, as he appears to be a lot more Luke Zeller than Tyler Zeller.
  16. Something Boers and Bernstein were discussing about Humber was how hard everyone seemed to hit the ball against him.

    2011 TV Thread

So on Shameless, I guess O'Hare looks a lot like Midway Airport these days?
  18. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 01:08 AM) Shaka needs to be praying that Tennessee offers him the job. He may be the next great thing but he needs to strike while the iron is hot. Tenn job has been filled. Shaka would be an amazing fit at GT, but they can't afford him.
  19. Chris Mooney signs a 10 year extension with Richmond instead of taking the GT job. The ghost of Paul Hewitt lives on, and now they're looking at crappier names like Brian Gregory or Wojcik, the Tulsa coach.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Six (now seven) posts on page 4, and not a single one is an out of breath fathom telling us why the Cubs will win the World Series this year? Fathom, I have to admit this kind of lets me down. ;-) Sorry buddy, even though I'm a little concerned about all of the injuries impacting the NL Central.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) Marquez getting hit around, we have nobody in the system capabale of pitching at the major league level. Let's all pray for Humber. I'm still stunned he's even an option.
  22. Rumors that GT has offered Brian Gregory the job, but that makes no sense at all and goes against everything the AD has stated and what insiders are reporting. The consensus amongst GT insiders is that Mooney will be named coach on Monday.
