Why is Clayton Richard in our starting rotation?
QUOTE (TheHolyBovine @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) Don't know if you watched the game today, but Richard: a) was touching 97, with velocity consistently between 92-94 B) had a great change-up c) was very unlucky. the royals only had two balls hit hard against him In terms of stuff, he has a better arm than MB or JD, and he's a lefty to boot. You have to give him a chance to get his stuff together. He's very close to breaking through. Simply put, you can't keep throwing someone out there who struggles to get you past the 5th inning.

Shut up Hawk. Bannister's had an absolutely tiny strike zone all day.

6-2 now after the hanger. What a disappointing weekend.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Everytime it looks like we are finally finding our stride and breaking out, we revert back to our old sucky selves. I'm still extremely pissed that we rested AJP and Thome yesterday. Seems like Ozzie took his foot off the pedal.

I don't think he's going to be in the rotation for very long.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) What I'm asking if he maxed himself out so quickly, is that something that will improve in time as he learns to pitch in the bigs? It's not likely he's going to be a 95 mph fastball starting pitcher in the majors. KW absolutely has my blessings to use Richard in a trade package.

We have like 5 rocket outs today, and KC has so many cheap hits. Very deflating.

This isn't going very well.

QUOTE (Jbabs34 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Thats the second time ive seen pods run into the bullpen when we make a pitching change...whats he doing? going to the bathroom? They said in the pregame that he has a baby monitor in the bullpen so he can check on his baby.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) I see Richard is pooping his pants again, against the almighty Royals. He was overthrowing early in the game, and you could see him run out of gas with his fastball velocity down almost 5 mph the 2nd time through. However, he got killed by bloopers and bleeders today. In the 4th inning against Brian Bannister, you have to wonder why we had the infield in with Callaspo up (someone who never strikes out against LHP). Opened it up to a bigger inning.

Alexei is an absolute disgrace at SS. He has no idea how to take an angle to cut a ball off in the hole.
-
7/5 Sox @ Royals 1:10 WGN
Wow, cheapest hit you'll ever see there with infield in. Richard is just not cutting it as a starter, as he's getting murdered the 2nd and 3rd time through the order.

Porcello v Beckham
Andrus will be in contention

Tied up...his fastball is down a good 3 mph now.

Ugh, Clatyon's going to give that run right back. 2nd time through the order is not looking pretty for him.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) whoever was at 1st yesterday hosed Pauly and I believe Dye on checked swings. Konerko's was DEFINITELY a non swing or how about Konerko being called out on 2nd on that liner off the wall?

Nice break we caught there on the blown 6-4-3 DP. Getz got lucky he didn't get called for interference.

AJP seems beastly this year at KC

QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) What do you think his ideal position is? 2b? CF? 2nd base, no question about it. It's not like Getz is a superstar in the making. However, Ozzie will never move Alexei, so it's up to the coaching staff to position him more effectively.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) Well, Guillen defended him after the play yesterday, saying that playing deep in the hole was their traditional positioning against Guillen...although why you'd play someone that far away from the bag that you could never get there in time to turn a DP is beyond me. Of course he's going to defend him. That's the coaching staff's fault, not Alexei's.

Clayton seems to be rushing his pitches out of the stretch, and has lost a good deal of velocity.

QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Am I wrong to question Alexei's supposed above average range on that play? He has below average range to his right.

Why does Alexei play so far up the middle when every pitch is a fastball on the inner half? It's beyond frustrating watching him be so clueless at SS this season.
