  1. Only in the National League: Jason Smith is 0-25 this year, and still is on a team.
  2. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) Its times like these I wish Nick Swisher was around to do a CRAzzZY dugout dance to lighten up everyone and change the mood within the team. That'd switch around their fortunes. Could you imagine letting our pitchers be responsible for protecting the blow-up dolls in the locker room? They'd be stolen without the pitchers even trying to prevent the theft from happening.
  3. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) I remember when we thought the 12 million a year for him was a steal. Considering we will be getting rid of a lot of big contracts in the offseason and not spend a lot, we could afford to overpay him one more season. Also, like you said, trading Konerko would likely require giving up some doe to get maximum value for him, and you should know that KW never includes money in a trade, unless that money is coming to us. What's the point of having Konerko on the roster if we're going to rebuild? You can't be afraid to lose if you're going to try and rebuild for a few seasons.
  4. It's definitely time to get Nix 5 starts a week and see what he can do. Another non-competitive game for the White Sox.
  5. Good ABs from Betemit and Nix...what a shock!
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) I disagree. I think all teams need veteran leadership, and if we decide to trade away all of Dye, Konerko, etc. and just go into next year with basically our double A lineup, you're setting yourself up for a huge disaster. I think you gotta choose between Dye and Konerko and which one of the two you would rather keep for the next couple of years while the young guys develop. And I think the easy choice would be Konerko. He's the "captain", doesn't make excuses for anyone, and is just an overall solid player. The easy choice would be to DH Dye, but I don't know if he'll return if he thinks we're rebuilding. It's more likely he signs with Texas to DH for them.

And I think the easy choice would be Konerko. He's the "captain", doesn't make excuses for anyone, and is just an overall solid player. He's also making more money than he's worth. Screw the leadership stuff....that should start with Ozzie. Part of the problem might be that the veterans aren't exactly vocal leaders.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) I can't agree my friend. I know what you are saying, but I think there are other moves that can be made without losing our best The first player I'd trade is Dye, as he would probably get you more than Konerko. With Konerko, we'd have to pay some of his salary.
  9. Nix has done nothing but have solid ABs all year. Ozzie keeps saying that's what he wants to see at the plate, but then he doesn't start Nix for a few games and keeps playing others who are having terrible ABs.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) Trade the player who doesn't make excuses. We can't afford to lose a guy like Konerko. We have talent and PK is right-those guys need to look at themselves and do what needs to be done to correct it Yes, we can afford to lose a guy like Konerko. You trade players you can actually get some value for.
  11. I'm sure KW and JR love the camera man focusing on Sox fans leaving a game in the 8th inning.
  12. Alexei's nightmare season continues. Maybe we'll bench him another 2 games and really send a message...not!
  13. QUOTE (Baines3 @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) I know it's only May but there has to be some changes on this team. I'd start with getting rid of Greg Walker. Agreed...something isn't working. I think the change should come with a new manager that pays attention to more of the little things, but that's not going to happen.
  14. Gotta love the match-up today of Harden vs Moehler. Harden has some of the best stuff in baseball, while Moehler might have the worst. Isn't it time for Harden or Soriano to go on the DL?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) Will attendance take a hit this year or have the Sox sold so many season tix they'll be fine attendance wise? Walk-up tickets will be awful. Again, KW will have no one to blame but himself if he doesn't have more than 50 cents to spend next year.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) Any chance we see Flowers up here as a platoon catcher with A.J. come August or next year? Doubtful...he's really struggling right now in AA after a good start.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Last year was a good, successful year. How can anybody argue that? I can see what they were trying to do this year, mix high paid vets with low paid young talent. The young talent can't hit and in the case of Floyd, pitch, while the vets haven't been miserable but are not producing a lot of runs. Good post
  18. KW really should be on the phone with the Giants and Mets trying to get rid of Konerko. The Giants 1B situation is terrible, and Delgado's out for a long time.
  19. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 17, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) So you're basically saying a fluke year = successful year. Yes...it was successful. You play the season to make the playoffs, and you go from there. Thus, it was successful...END OF STORY!
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) So suddenly Gavin Floyd stinks and we have two good starters. Our third best is Bartolo Colon. Many of you knew Gavin was a fluke. Our scouts and baseball people thought he was good enough to reward monetarily. Lexi is hitting .212, Fields .231, Miller .214 and Lilly .164. Quentin is hurt and may keep getting hurt because opposing pitchers plunk him constantly. Getz is down to .240. We can't come close to beating a real team like Toronto. It's gonna be a long summer. We suck...you don't even have to break it down.
  21. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 17, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) Where can I find Kalapse's handy contract info sheet? Begging that everyone's in the last year of their deal?
  22. yeah...Corky Miller has no chance against Halladay. This team is just embarrassing.
  23. Someone in the Sox organization told Hawk to change the focus from the game to the future. Nice inning for Gobble
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) i wish joey would've made gavin wear this one and stay out there and spare the pen. Gobble's on the mound...who cares. Richard and Carrasco will be going tomorrow.
  25. Floyd's now given up 6 runs or more in half of his starts.
