QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) I'm not suggesting him as a starter. THe only reason he'd start is due to injuries. So then we'd be trading Vazquez for a 7th inning reliever?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) That's quite a bold prediction considering the level of talent involved. A 3-4-5-6 of Quentin-Thome-Konerko-Alexei, a bullpen featuring Thornton-Dotel-Linebrink-Poreda/Richard at the back, and a rotation of Buehrle-Floyd-Danks-Jackson as the top 4 and you think that team isn't even good enough to finish 12 games under .500? Do you remember how much our bullpen sucked without Jenks, and making Thornton and Linebrink try and pitch in different situations? That 3-4-5-6 is good, but we're in the AL....most teams have strong 3-4-5s in their lineup. With the Tigers, Indians, and Twins looking to spend money to upgrade their pitching (offense for the Twins), it just bothers me how every trade proposal seems to be the Sox downgrading their 25 man roster talent for prospects. The Swisher trade was terrible, and some of these proposals make that one seem like Thornton for Borchard.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) I agree that as a starter he'd be bad, but even last year, in a down season, his periph's are very good and he has a nice arm. I'd love to have him in our pen. But isn't he due to become a FA shortly? I could possibly by heilman for Javy because the Sox clearly are completely down on Javy and want to free his cash. However, Pelfrey for Jenks is not a fair deal at all. Pelfrey, a top prospect, and Heilman is something I could live with. He gave up a ton of homers in the NL, pitching in a huge ballpark, in situations where he only has to throw his top 2 pitches or so. Nothing about him translates to being an effective starter in the AL at the Cell.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) Dye for Jackson and Niemann Jenks and Javy for Heilman, Niese, and Martinez 1B Konerko 2B Nix vs. Getz 3B Fields vs. Betemit SS Alexei C AJ LF Viciedo vs. Martinez CF ? RF Quentin SP Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Jackson, Heilman vs. Niese vs. Niemann vs. Richard Pen: L Thornton CL, R Linebrink SU, L Richard SU, R Dotel SU/RSP, L Poreda LSP, 2 SP competition losers vs. Wassermann vs. Russell vs. Link vs. Nunez vs. whoever else for 2 spots The Sox can then look to swing a smaller deal for a CF like Taveras or sign Kotsay for 1 year if possible, and maybe sign a reclamation project SP like Freddy or Pedro as well. Lots of youthful depth there. That team wouldn't win 70 games, and then the attendance decline would destroy our payroll for the following season. Sometimes, I wish people would take a step back and look at the roster they're actually predicting and think if there's any chance of that happening.

Heilman absolutely, positively sucks! He would be pathetic as a starter in the American League.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) Or, it could be Jenks and Dye, Tampa needs a closer, RF & a DH. Then you get back Jackson, Niemen, Perez & Davis. Just my two cents. Kenny Williams should be fired if that's the deal. You can't trade Jenks for "prospects".

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) The question is how much better of an option is Perez than Anderson/Owens in CF as a platoon? I don't think it's clear-cut, nor is it obvious Perez can be a regular player or the type of player who can easily translate his speed automatically into 50 stolen bases. Then there's the fact that he's not really your classic leadoff hitter in terms of his approach either, more of a 9 hitter. Brian Anderson is a better player than Perez. Perez also has a horrific throwing arm that makes Juan Pierre look like Roberto Clemente.
-
Just say no to Perez (even if he is the smartest player in baseball). He's a weak hitter who reminds some observers of W. Taveras with the bat.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) Why has everyone fallen in love with W. Aybar? He has some huge character issues (drugs). I hope we stay away from him.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) You might see one of them on this team. Marquez has a shot at fifth start as the team sets up today. Nunez would have to have a Boone Logan type spring to even be in consideration. Poreda >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Marquez
-
If you trade for Dye, you should get parts back that you know the Orioles want for Brian Roberts. He's so obviously the best fit for this organization.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) And it makes the middle of the order a ton more dangerous as they would actually have a ton more chances to drive in some runs, instead of having the leagues top out maker at the top of the line up. That is true...it's ridiculous to think that Cabrera was our leadoff man.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) KW's arguments so far: Betemit >>> Uribe (plus the savings can be allocated elsewhere) Viciedo >>> Swisher (plus the savings on this contract versus what we were going to pay Swisher) Marquez and Nunez have been added to the puzzle for depth in both the pen and rotation. We have two more intriguing options for 3B (at least a platoon with Betemit) in Viciedo and Betemit we didn't have before. We have yet to see what parting with Cabrera, Uribe, Crede and Swisher will bring back....part of the answer now becomes Viciedo. As much as I hated Swisher, there's no way Viciedo could put up Swisher's numbers if he started in 2009. Also, if we're counting on Marquez and Nunez to be on the 25 man roster coming out of ST, we're in trouble.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Awesome!! This is exactly what I wanted, arms from Tampa Bay!!! Kenny is so awesome. If he gets a starter and a piece for Dye then he can turn around and deal Javy to the Braves, Rangers, Mets, Nats, O's, or possibly even elsewhere in a surprise (those teams highlighted are my preference because they've got close CF talent and close SP talent). Get a couple pitchers to compete for the 5th slot, sign a reclamation project if need be, and continue to get younger. I love it! Screw competing, let's get younger....YUCK

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) You could do a JD+Dotel package, but as you said, thats expensive and also risky. Their minor league system is stocked with talent, especially pitching talent, so that is where their strength is for trading. I'd be careful with their current crop of minor league pitchers, as they've had a slew of health injuries lately. They are an organization that stresses maximum effort (velocity) on their pitches, and much like the Cubs, that ends up hurting them when those pitchers make the majors.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Howell and Balfour are candidates to regress. They're not comfortable with Wheeler as their closer, and Price is moving back to the rotation. Percival has pretty much gone Todd Jones on them now. One would think that Poreda, Jenks or Thornton (maybe Dotel or Linebrink, although expensive for TB) would be their three main bullpen targets. I don't think to move a Carl Crawford they're going to settle on Lance Broadways, Adam Russells or Ehren Wassermans. Carl Crawford is ridiculously overrated by so many people. Not only that, but won't he be a FA in 2 years?
-
Jackson would almost definitely be the main piece of the trade. I'm not a fan of his. I really don't like how most of these trades were involved with our making the 2009 team significantly weaker.
-
I love this signing, as it's a very low risk for a potentially huge reward. It's great to see how our organization, which used to be known for having no infield prospects, now has Beckham, Viciedo, and Getz.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) Warrior fans are calling him Stephan Jackson with Brains I'm the biggest GT fan there is. Morrow can't create a shot for the life of him. However, he's one of the purest shooters I've ever seen. Great kid, I'm very happy for him.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Right now does Rose, Mayo or Fernandez win ROY? Anthony Morrow

Traded for a good reliever in Ramon Ramirez. Thankfully, we won't see Crisp playing on the southside now. I wonder if this means Cubs will target DeJesus.

Davidson/Oklahoma game was awesome. Blake had 27 pts and 21 rebs, while Curry had 44 points. -

So after watching nearly every game that's been on tv since the season started, Oklahoma has impressed me the most. Blake Griffin is one of the best collegiate big men this decade, as I've never seen a better rebounder during my college basketball watching lifetime (roughly 20 years now). Of course, watch Davidson beat them tonight. I was stunned at how bad UCLA looked last weekend, and the SEC is already off to a terrible start. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) At this point, i see Richard and Poreda going at it for the 5th spot (much like Danks andFloyd did two years ago) with the loser and Marquez going to the bullpen Marquez will start the year in the minors as a starter, no question about it.

QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Glad to see you modified the 8 homers in 5 innings. Would have been pretty hard since he only gave up 12 homeruns all year and no more than 6 in any one month. Yeah, it must have been 8 runs in 5 innings. I was looking for the game log from his AAA season, and I couldn't find any. I'm going to try and get more details later today.
