  1. On the radio, they said Mike Brown is a huge Sox fan, and he was ecstatic to meet Swisher and Dye prior to the game. Swisher is wearing a Brown jersey (shocking it's #30)
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) Because you've seen him so many times, right? No, but people that have seen him realize that he's not a prospect. Have you seen him? The one time I saw him on NESN, he looked very bad.
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) Let's not get crazy here. Cubs aren't just an "the NL sucks" team. Look at the talent they have on that team. Also, there aren't 5 teams in the AL better than them. Cubs still have the best overall 3 starters in baseball compared to any other team, and as B&B were talking about yesterday, which one of the Sox pitchers would you take over any of those 3 in the playoffs? Likely none of them. I hate the cubs fans as much as the next guy, but let's not act like we have a world beater team and their team sucks. It just makes us look like a bunch of idiots. I'd take Danks over Zambrano, especially the way Z is throwing the ball lately. However, I do agree with you. This Cubs team is enormously talented. I didn't know Marmol hadn't allowed a hit in like 12 appearances.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) To be fair Bolt was the night before. In China they took place in different days. That might be true, but Costas definitely compared the two events and said the volleyball was more impressive.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) Yeah, we dont really need another position player as much as an extra arm. That being said I definitely wouldnt mind Cook being up in September. I would, he's not very good. The last thing this team needs is another outfielder. If anything, call up Owens for pr purposes.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) If DeWaine Wise is out for any period of time due to his abductor injury... which is very possible... Who might the Sox call up to replace him? Conventional thinking says Owens. But I can picture Cook getting a September callup and getting a little playing time too... If for no other reason than they have to either add him to the 40-man roster or potentially lose him in the Rule 5 draft this fall. And if they add him to the 40-man roster, why not call him up and give the big league coaches an opportunity to help make a decision on him? I would guess it would be a pitcher they'd call up.
  7. Does it hurt when you push on the upper left part of your abdominal area? If so, go get a CT-scan of your appendix.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) His two races are the most impressive thing of the whole Olympics as far as I am concerned. Agreed...pure domination in events that aren't supposed to be won by that much. He made every other sprinter look terrible.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) According to cubs fans, they play in the best division in baseball while we play in the worst, and we have also been helped by our hitting parkpark and PED's (Q) And they all love Jim Edmonds. It's funny that they say some other team is benefitting from PEDs (Soto, DeRosa, Edmonds)
  10. As Costas was signing off on the NBC primetime coverage last night, he said that May/Walsh had the most impressive performance of the day in the Olympics. What a joke....I'd say that 19.30 seconds says otherwise.
  11. Upchurch with another great start tonight. Beckham's 1-2 with a double. When I click on minorleaguebaseball.com, you better believe it goes straight to Kannapolis' score.
  12. So my female boss tells me this joke: "Why do gay people do it up the butt"? So they can have sex and watch the Cubs game at the same time
  13. Huge double plays in the top of the 1st yesterday and today really allowed the Sox to cruise to easy wins.
  14. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) There's no way you could consider trading any major member of our bullpen consdiering how bad it has been in the past (and how much it has cost us). The bullpen needs to be a major strength on this team. Dotel's throwing a ton this season, and I just think he could bring you back a lot of value in the offseason (particularly if a team wants to make him a closer).
  15. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) It will be interesting to see what the Sox try to make of him. Sometimes he does so well out there I wonder if they could groom him for the role. I do not know the wear and tear on Jenks' arm, but with so much more time before FA, I would be curious to see the talent windfall the Sox might be able to get by trading Bobby in the offseason. I know, dumb idea ready to be panned, but this could very well be that year too soon to trade him as opposed to the year too late. I think Thornton would be the closer of the future. I'll recommend this...trade Dotel this offseason!
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) Righties are currently hitting .289 off Russell, Lefties only .250, albiet, sample size. Lefties do have a couple more extra base hits and a homer against him. Unless he develops a splitter or a nasty change-up, he just reminds me of a righty set-up man (at best). Another thing that would be interesting to see is if he can keep up his velocity on back-to-back days.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) I love his arm and his arm angle. I think he could be effective as a closer if he got more consistant about his release point. Don't you think lefties could feast off of that arm angle?
  18. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Anyone think Russell could be an effective major league closer? Nope...at best, he can become a righty set-up man. He doesn't have any plus-plus pitches.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) I'd really rather not push them...just about everyone in that pen could use an extra day or two of rest. It'd be dynamite if Gavin could go 7+ and we wind up only having to throw Russell out there to finish things off. I really hope we can let Thornton just sit in the bullpen all day and not throw a pitch. He's complained twice in the last month about having a tired arm.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Anyone hear a scouting report on Lirano this year? One of the ESPN "experts" said he still is effective, but you can't confuse his stuff with what he had 2 years ago. I'd agree with this...his fastball is about 91, and his slider has significantly less tilt. I think Liriano's benefitted by facing some crappy lineups since he returned.
  21. Did they ever say what is up with Thome? CQ and Alexei are just awesome right now.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) List of people Anderson has to kill to get a start: Ozzie Guillen Joey Cora Ken Griffey Jr. Nick Swisher Dwayne Wise Jerry Owens Chris Young Darin Erstad Jason Tyner Alexei Ramirez Miguel Negron Jordan Danks Salvador Sanchez Sergio Morales Kent Gerst Kenny Williams Jr. Nicholas Damas Misael Tavarez Probably ought to wound Dye and Konerko and Thome while he's on that rampage just for good measure. I'd have added Quentin too, but I doubt he can actually be harmed by men. You think someone should tell Ozzie that righties hit knucklers better, especially against Dickey. .316 batting avg for righties compared to .254 for lefties.
  23. Another slow start for a starting pitcher...Floyd looked like hell last time he faced the Mariners.
  24. I thought Thome might have injured his shoulder on a swing late in the game last night. Hopefully he's ok, but you never like to see him miss a game due to injury.
  25. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Missing Sherrill for that whole series is huge. They will miss Percival as well. With Tampa's pen, I'd rather they have Percival instead of Balfour closing. The Rays missing Crawford and Longoria is very nice.
