  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) The Marlins will win the 2011 World Series. It's a great trade for them. Miller is better than Willis already.
  2. I bet the MLB owners are just thrilled that the Tigers are being rewarded for going over slot money on their draft picks.
  3. Within 24 hours, we'll be hearing Ozzie say that Andruw's contract demands were too much.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Because that's so much better and more intimidating than the lineups the Yankees have trotted out the past 5 years. And hasn't the Yankees offense been pretty much the best in baseball over that span?
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) Burn the farm down, whatever it takes get Cabrera. If we have to face him with Maggs, Shefield, and the rest we are f***ed. Granderson, Renteria, Cabrera, Ordonez, Sheffield, Guillen, Rodriguez, Jones, Polanco = oh my god
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:00 PM) According to Rotoworld, Miggy and Willis are headed to Detroit for Mahem, Miller and 4 prospects. OUCH! Kudos to the Tigers...and this honestly should make KW consider becoming a seller more than a buyer. The Sox are more f***ed now than they were 20 minutes ago.
  7. QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) I see, so you want the Sox to become the Texas Rangers when they had ARod? Giving up the future and present for one great player doesn't put championship banners on the flag pole, but I guess watching one great player is more exciting for the casual fan. In all seriousness, doesn't pitching and defense win championships? Hate to break it to you, but these "future" guys aren't very special. Gio and Danks don't project to anything more than a #4.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) Deal may not work out, but I doubt the story is not "true". This isn't speculation - he reported something. If he just made it up, he'd be out of a job pretty quick. He's the Marlins beat writer, so this isn't some random blogger.
  9. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox used Jenks in this trade proposal.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) I need to make this clear. You do WHATEVER it takes to get Cabrera. He is a 24 year old HOF candidate, and all indications say he would love to play for the Sox and Ozzie. You get this guy locked up for years, and you have a Frank Thomas type hitter to build around. At least I can guarantee with 100 pct certainty that quickman will agree with this.
  11. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Saying the halls of the hotel were buzzing at that the team is close to an announcement seems a bit unethical if you are looking to plant misinformation. These people are there. At the hotel. How you could you make that up? Remember how close we were supposedly to trading for Soriano last year, for it to only be a plant?
  12. Cabrera would play LF. If we did this, we'd probably just play Crede at 3b this year, and then let him leave after next season. Remember, if we did this, it's not like Cabrera would blow the budget THIS season. There'd still be money around to possibly acquire a starting pitcher.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) Who cares what he plays, put his ass in a sox uni and let him hit here. Do you have any conception of what type of hitter this is, and what type of damage he could cause here. Holy s***. If this is all that it costs go for it. He is younger than Fields and you could surround him for a long time. This would be an awesome move. But who would lead off!!!!!
  14. This could very well be a plant...but at least it got me excited today.
  15. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) Don't get me wrong, I like this deal. But what happened to the mantra of pitching and defense? Looks like you guys will be in for some long nights at US Cellular. Would they consider Cabrera for left? Didn't he used to play there? We're going to be in for long nights anyways, unless Buehrle or Vazquez are on the mound. You might as well try to outscore the opposition.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) If acquired and signed long-term, he may give Frank Thomas a run for his money as greatest hitter in team history. This would be a coup. Especially at the Cell. I honestly don't care who we give up for him. It's not like Sox prospects are sure-thing anyways.
  17. Um, wow http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/content..._on_cabrer.html
  18. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Any top 15 prospect in their system. They gutted their pitching depth in the minors last year with that horrible trade for that one guy...that's right, Linebrink. Maybe we'll bring back Tony G!
  19. QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) From Rotoworld: Would anyone be shocked if a Uribe-for-Rauch trade is in the works? Yes, beyond shocked. I will never watch baseball again, that's how shocked I am. The White Sox organization despised Jon Rauch.
  20. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) I agree with all of this except for Quentin because you say he might not pan out. Well, Carter might not either. Then it's just a trade. NOt a good trade or a bad trade, just a trade. Things hardly ever work out exactly the way you want them to...just ask the Cubs. They got their men last year, but didn't win nuthin'. Same with the Yankees and even the Sox. The thing I will always give Kenny is his willingness to try. He really doesn't care what we think...he makes the moves that he thinks makes the team better or clears payroll to make the team better. He's going to swing and miss, but all GMs do...even Schuerholz misses occasionally (sorry Pratt). The same Cubs that went from having the 3rd worst record in all of baseball to the playoffs?
  21. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) From ESPN's Amy Nelson: The Orioles and Dodgers may be close on a deal that will send left-hander Erik Bedard to Los Angeles, a baseball source said. The O's are in need of a center fielder and a closer who can play at the major league level, and the Dogders seem willing to part with outfielder Matt Kemp and reliever Jonathan Broxton, who could come in a close in lieu of Chris Ray, out for the year after Tommy John surgery. "They want Bedard bad," said the source. That would be a fantastic trade for the Orioles.
  22. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) Nowhere near enough for Fuentes, I am reading the same sites as you, supposedly they don't match up otherwise. I didn't mean straight up for Burke....just that it would be a prospect like Patton and Burke for Fuentes. The Astros system really is pathetic though. KW was smart to try and get Qualls for Sweeney.
  23. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) TIFWIW, the ESPN Winter Meetings Blog suggests that the Astros don't want to pay Fuentes. And with the loss of Kaz...they are thinking about moving Atkins to 2B. If that's the case, maybe the Rockies would be a good place for Crede? Maybe for Spilborghs, Sullivan or Tavares? They want to move Stewart to 2nd base.
  24. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) I'm going to disagree with you on that. I think Kendrick is more well-regarded currently than Maybin. The 24 year old 2nd baseman who will be arb eligible in a few years (when they already have Uggla), or the 20 year old CF where they start Amezaga last season?
  25. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) Uribe will get moved regardless, but let's remember this rumor is from Steve Phillips. Wears nice suits but doesn't always know what he's talking about. It seems surprising the Astros would give him up so soon, as I know they're trying to get Fuentes from the Rockies, and the Rockies love Burke.
