QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) i'll give fathom credit for calling this a long time ago. i disagreed at the time but he was right. it is unfortunate and i wish carlwell the best. this makes the team even more thin up front next year, which really does not help. it does help to explain the continued recruiting of bigs. Thanks, this was a long time coming. -

I've always thought he's just about the dumbest person in sports media, but Zach Zaidman is announcing the DePaul/UCONN game on 560 am tonight. He's the worst announcer I've ever heard. He honestly yells about every play as if it was a last second shot. Do yourself a favor and put the game on if you get a chance. -

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 07:03 PM) Some leaks for the McDonalds all american team announcements have surfaced, and it looks like all 3 Carolina recruits made it. Davis & Zeller are no surprise, but Drew is a bit of a shock to me to have madeit. I haven't heard anything about Angel Garcia yet I'll probably run over to the high school and see if he got any word yet. Willie Warren (Oklanhoma) & Jamychal Greene (LSU) have also been reported to have been selected at this point. I don't think Garcia made it. Shumpert did make it. -

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) I would say Jamont Gordon is probably an all american let alone getting a mention here, and Gransbury from S. Florida is a beast nobody knows about. I agree with Ryan Anderson getting some props. FWIW, Gordon, Shan Foster, and Chalmers were the 3 players I considered before placing Gordon on the 2nd team. -

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) Id put Darnell Jackson in all underrated team. The thing with Jackson is that every game, people say how underrated he is. It's almost to the point he's become an overrated, underrated player. However, nothing is more sickening than watching Lville games now. David Padgett is praised so much...I'm not kidding when I say they were even complimenting him for running to the bench when he got pulled. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) From you? I'm surprised -- you usually have "over" before "rated", not "under". I've really come to appreciate his defense this season. He's the best on-the-ball defender we have -- better than McNeal. His vision and passing ability are top-notch as well. Still a 'meh' shooter, but he's been making better decisions this season. Hate to break it to you, but I meant Damion James on Texas. -

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) Cubs sign Cintron...good for the Uribe to Baltimore trade scenarios. Especially if they trade Roberts. This means that Roberts will be traded to the Cubs very soon. Cedeno will be the Orioles SS. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 03:47 AM) Except he actually handles the ball well and shot the ball well over the summer. His coach sticks him in the post and doesn't let him play a whole lot on the perimeter. Watching him play in HS is a terrible way of evaluating his skill when he basically is forced to play center. I actually remember people saying the same stuff about LeBron in HS (and no I am not saying Richmond is at that level). His coach most definitely didn't stick him in the middle. He was camped out on the wing behind the 3 point line the entire night. -

It's amazing how similar Shumpert looks physically compared with O.J. Mayo....just like how Angel Garcia resembles Lorenzo Mata-Real. -

Shumpert is not the 21st best player, and Dillard should be much higher. I don't think there's more than 5 point guards in the nation I'd rather have than him. -
Great start to the baseball season.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 07:53 AM) Richmond definitely has an attitude problem (I'm one of the posters you mention that saw him play), but fathom's opinion of Richmond's talent is skewed by seeing him on a bad night. Richmond is an incredible talent and probably will play in the NBA, but he definitely has the attitude problem you see in most great athletes down already. Please describe these incredible talents he has? I saw a 6'6" player who just sits on the wing yelling for the ball. I didn't see a single post move from him the entire night, and he doesn't compete on the boards (please don't relay the stats from the paper, as those are a total joke). The best player for Waukegan yesterday was #30. I can't wait to watch Angel Garcia play at Memphis. He's a rather awkward looking player who tries to play like Dirk. However, he hit an awesome halfcourt buzzer beater to end the first quarter. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) Well, I find it funny you have so much negative to say about a sophomore who posted a line of 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists, yet have nothing bad to say about the 5 star senior on the other of the court who posted 7 points and six rebounds. Maybe it's just me, but me thinks you're biased hate against Illinois is showing through here. First of all, if Richmond had more than 1 assist, I would be surprised. He didn't even pass the ball 8 times all night, so having 8 assists is a joke. OPRF was very well coached, and Shumpert actually was a better rebounder than Richmond was. By my calculations, Shumpert was 2-7 from the field, and 3-4 from the FT line. Richmond was 4-18 from the field and 8-12 from the FT line. It was a terrible game. East Chicago was very entertaining to watch, as their frontcourt has more size than most college teams. And trust me, it has nothing to do with my bias. You should have seen the neutral fans at the game shift to OPRF as the game went on due to Richmond's antics. -

Got the chance to see Richmond/Shumpert/etc. tonight. Shumpert didn't force anything tonight, and ended up with a quiet game. I've seen him play quite a few times this year, and I'll think he'll be a very good combo guard for GT. Now, I had never seen Richmond play before, so I was quite shocked. He was nowhere near as good as I thought he'd be. He had about 15 pts, and most were on easy layups or bail-out free throws. He only made one jump shot I can remember. Now, the real story starts with his attitude. I've never seen a worse display of character shown by one kid ever in my sports viewing life. He seems to hate his teammates, and they seem to hate him. The entire group I was around was rooting big time against him just do to being such an asshole on the court. He almost got into numerous fights, and his sarcastic cheering on a hard foul against Shumpert was pathetic. Even the refs were laughing at how much of an ass he was acting like. I heard some Waukegan parents state that they can't wait for him to leave the program, which will likely happen after this year. Richmond's dad also walked around like he owned the place. I'll be honest, Rossi on New Trier PLAYED better than Richmond did (both sophs). -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 04:24 AM) Yeah I'm fine, but fathom, if you saw the scene (or even the outskirts of it like I did), you'd know why he said casualties. It was a f***ing war zone. What a sad day, this stuff doesn't even surprise me anymore, but it's just a punch in the balls when it's your school. You can't prevent this stuff of course, but as long as the NRA exists, it will continue to happen relatively often (sorry to go political there). The cell phones here are still shot, I can't find everybody.....I am afraid to see the victim lists when they come out. Hope everything is well. I have a brother that lives in DeKalb, and his cell phone was cutting out all day. My father has actually been taught on how to give press briefings for disaster situations much like today, and they're teaching now that casualties should only be used for fatalities due to the terms perception in a war time.
-
Someone really need to teach Peters that casualties is not a good word when describing injured people.

WGN reports that the NIU Police Chief confirms suspect is in custody (even though I've heard from someone on the scene they're dead).

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) The students are all on lockdown, so they might not post right away. This is craziness, it happened right in my old stomping grounds of the NIU Communications Dept (graduated a little over 2 years ago) and I stayed in Neptune for a year. I hope all of my teachers are alright. CNN reporting 18 injured. No deaths reported though rumor says the gunman took his life. There was a threat a few months ago, but I doubt this is tied to it.
-
Up to 18 people injured according to CNN.com, but some of them aren't supposed to be seriously
-
I've heard at least one person is DOA, and there's rumors of multiple shooters. Hopefully the report that the shooter took their own life is accurate.

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) I know, lol. That's because I seem to be the only one who thinks it's POSSIBLE. I'm kind of being forced to play devil's advocate, which I don't mind doing, but in doing so it seems like I'm convinced that something was going on. I'm not, but I wish I could know for sure. If anything, I have more pride in the fact the Sox were the first team to win it after the steroid testing went into place. They were probably the cleanest team in decades to win it all.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) Say, has anybody noticed Frank hasn't been up the same type of numbers within the last few years compared to his early 90's days? Maybe he got off the junk when they started cracking down. Good season = on something. Good grief. Pods must have started juicing before the playoffs that year...it's the only way to explain his 2 homers during the postseason.
