  1. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 03:41 AM) My question is how can a one day draft next June affect your thinking on games played the last 2 months of this season? Everybody has pointed out the draft is a crapshoot. There are busts all the time in the draft. One pick -- and no way that pick will sign until the deadline day if at all -- is not worth all this in my opinion. The pro-loss side, which I'm on the Board of Trustees, doesn't see the value in a few worthless wins during the last month of the season. I'm sure guys like AJP and Konerko can't wait for the year to be over, and definitely won't let game #150 during a below .500 season impact how they go into ST next year.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 03:40 AM) It never fails. A new day, a new game thread, exact same arguments, exact same points being made on both sides and exact same people standing on each side of the issue. Dear god this is getting old and oh so boring. Yeah, it does seem like deja vu. However, the sports talk show host opinion was played in this one....that's a new twist. I'll continue to root for the Sox to play just well enough to lose the rest of the way.
  3. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 03:36 AM) You can PM it to me if you wanna get it off your chest and I'll play Dr. Phil for ya. No no, the poor wife hears it. Let's just say it involves the likes of Ron Santo, Carlos Zambrano, every Cubs fan, etc.
  4. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 03:36 AM) I'll agree on the idiocy of sports talk guys...but come on...you just can't play that Cole Hamels vs Royce Ring game. In 2002 draft Bryan Bullington, Christopher Gruler, Adam Lowen, and Clint Everts went before Prince Fielder. Every single draft you can do great retrospectively. But with those 1500 names sitting on your board? NO ONE KNOWS. Yes, but it's a recent example that shows how much a one-game swing can impact the player available to take. Who knows, maybe the 7th pick will end up being better than the 1st pick. I just want the Sox to be in a position where the need to take the best player available, and not be in a position where they go the safe route (which is basically the new name for Jordan Danks).
  5. Matt Wise's ERA after the ASB was over 7 coming into this game. There's so much stuff I want to say right now about what I hope happens, but that would probably get me banned.
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 03:32 AM) But win a game in the respect category. There's not a single person who's not a White Sox fan or fantasy baseball owner that gives a f*** about the White Sox/Royals game tonight. When I saw the draft order before this season's draft, I couldn't have told you how many games any of the teams won who had a top 5 pick.
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 03:28 AM) Is it all mental with Contreras? How in the f*** could he pitch a complete game tonight? Great win, White Sox. p.s. To those of you who think I am an idiot for wanting the Sox to win ... I challenge you to call a talk show and tell the host how you have been rooting for the team to lose every game to get the No. 1 pick. Be honest and tell me how the host laughs you off the show. I have asked dozens of fans about your position and they all laugh and say the baseball draft is the biggest crapshoot of all. Test it on a talk show, fellas and report back to me honestly at how the host laughs you away. Do you honestly believe the people in the stands at games at the Cell the past 5 weeks want this team to lose? Win baby, just win! Yep, since talk show hosts are always the smartest people. Once again, who would you rather have the chance to draft, Cole Hamels or Royce Ring?
  8. Where the f*** was that 1-2 pitch to Pence? I can't believe they didn't walk Pence, as he has too much speed to hit into a double play anyways. It's hard to tell how many games a manager has cost a team, but his inability to adjust to his players is as bad this year as Ozzie's was last year. His decision to put Counsell at 3rd in the 7th inning cost them the game.
  9. Matt Wise is always a rally starter for the other team. Maybe Lee will hit into a 5-4-3 TP.
  10. I hate Matt Wise....he never seems to do well when I watch. A 3-1 changeup to Orlando Palmeiro? This game will be over in a few minutes.
  11. Some scary hitters for the Astros coming up in this situation. The Astros have little left in the pen, so I actually think Yost should use Cordero.
  12. I wonder if the Cubs are going to b**** that the Astros kept Lidge in for another inning? Fielder hit that ball hard, just no elevation.
  13. Good thing I saw on ESPN that it was going into the top of the 10th, as that looked like a single off the bat.
  14. Was Counsell guarding the line on Burke's double?
  15. I'm sure happy that Yost took Braun out of the game. Didn't he learn from last close game they had with Astros on Labor Day?
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 02:49 AM) Call me crazy but I still have a lot of faith in the Mets. But Phily has to pull the wild card for them to play the Mets, so go Phily? I don't see any possibility that both NL East teams make it. I would love to see the Mets in the first round, as I trust their hitters to make contact on 92 mph down the plate. If not the Mets, then the Padres. I'm scared that it will be the DBacks with a struggling Webb and Augie Ojeda at 2b. At least I know I can count on you to be with me in the crusade against the Cubs.
  17. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 02:43 AM) This is like the first time all baseball season I have gotten f***ing pissed off and wanted to punch things Who do you want to see the Cubs face in the first round?
  18. Wow, nice defensive positioning. Lee is a dead-pull hitter, and you give him that big of a hole. Also, why in the world is Jenkins playing near the warning track on that field? I'm with you WH, the Cubs are going to be up around 3 after this wknd.
  19. I realized why the NL Central sucks....no one can hit a straight fastball in the low 90s. I can't even begin to name all the games the Cubs have won due to bad defensive plays by the other team. Chalk this one up as another one.
  20. Keep bunting with the 2nd best hitter in the lineup Yost....that's really going to work.
  21. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 02:21 AM) ... and the Cubs should be taking the lead any second now. Another game in which an error basically led to the victory for them. There's no way the Brewers stay their ground with how the schedule is this wknd.
  22. It's bad when Cecil Cooper out-strategizes you. Yost walked right into having a LHP face Loretta, who's their hottest hitter.
  23. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 02:15 AM) Do teams scout Theriot? 2 strikes on him and pitch away? Come on! He always looks to go the other way. Pitch the runt inside. Absolutely....even though it looked like the 1-2 pitch should have been strike 3. This ump has had a huge zone all night.
  24. Ugh, hate to see anyone get injured, no matter how much they've sucked tonight. See ya in 2008 Ken. Let's just hope that's not an injury that requires surgery.
  25. Holy s***, is Griffey Jr. taking money tonight? One of the worst individual games I've ever seen.
