QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) We scored over 500 runs in the first half. That is insane. Our 2nd half offense blew dog. We were behind the Royals in offense in the 2nd half. Which is why it's comical that Hawk always stated the team never hit its stride last year. They had a stretch for a few months to start the year where about 7 of the 9 regulars were overachieving. People forget we had a 6 game lead at the ASB in the wild card.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) I'm gonna blame this on the sox making the weak fans lose their minds...i've heard similar stupid ideas from other sox fans They'll be Cubs fans in 2 months. I wouldn't want Sweeney hitting 3rd in AA. Not sure if this is a positive or negative, but I really think that Sweeney needs to prove he has any chance of hitting at this level before we likely hand him a starting spot for next season. If Pods has injury problems that linger, at least Sweeney should get this chance instead of possibly learning the hard way next year.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) If our offense performed like the 2nd half of last season, that wouldn't be a problem, imo. The problem was our pitching during the 2nd half was horrendous, for the most part. It's pretty good right now. I think it's balta or kalapse that has stats on how our offense was like 12th in the AL during the 2nd half last season.

The International League is absolutely horrific this year. All of the good talent, especially on Durham, is now in the majors.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) If hitting coaches have no effect on team hitting, as you are seemingly suggesting, how would you explain our improved performance after firing Von Joshua and later Gary Ward, or the Indians when they fired Eddie Murray? Well, maybe the Indians didn't like hitting in the cold either, and when they fired Murray, it started to get hotter outside? I know Walker will be the fall guy, but we just have too many easy outs in our lineup (as we did during the 2nd half last season). I hope we're not relying on Thome to be full strength for the rest of the year once he returns. I guarantee he'll be back on the DL again this season.

The MVP of the game has to be the individual who changed the time of this game. Thankfully, I won't have to waste my night watching this s***. Hell, wedding planning seems exciting compared to watching this impotent offense.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) You can have the best philosophy in the game, but if you can't get it across to your students, you are a horrible teacher. If this was 5 years ago, people would be calling for the manager's head due to corpseball.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) So let me get this straight, people actually believe Greg Walker tells guys to go up to the plate and swing as hard as they can just in case they hit it. He also tells them not to work a count. Swing at as many pitches as they can, regardless of their location. I really don't know what to think of Walker as a hitting coach, but I find it hard to believe he's the reason the team can't hit right now. Bingo! There's so many more problems with this team than just it's hitting coach. He'll be the fall guy, but this roster was doomed from the minute we tried to make Toby Hall into Steve Lyons. We should DL Cintron and find someone with a little more pop that can play SS in an emergency.
-
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) That might be true. But if all these guys were hitting at their career averages, we'd probably be in 1st place by now, even without Thome. Sounds like something Hawk or Walk would say.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) The Yankees fired their strength and conditioning coach today. Just figured I'd add that. Interesting, very interesting.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) Danks has surpassed alot of expectations already this season. Yes, it's nice to see him getting hitters out. I didn't expect anything below a 5. Basically, my biggest wish was to see that he can be someone we can put into the rotation for the next 5 years.

Here's the good news: Chone Figgins is back just in time for us to face him this weekend. That means hours upon hours of Hawk saying how great he is, even though he's been mediocre for a few years now.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Someone has to be blamed for our league worst offense, and it's between Williams and Walker. Who do you think stands a larger chance of losing their job? It may not be fair, but it's what has to be done. Change is necessary. First will come Walker. I'm still confident in my prediction from that offseason that KW or Ozzie will be gone after this year. Quite frankly, if we're going to be dealing veteran players for youngsters, I have no problem if KW isn't doing those trades. Those trades aren't his specialty.

Look at our lineup....even a good hitting coach couldn't get this offense to be average.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) this falls on KW's shoulder....his piss ass attitude has assembled a bunch of losers. I still remember reading that horrific article when he was b****ing about the salaries and said he wouldn't bring back any of our starters. That woe is me attitude really, really pissed me off after the attendance over the last two years. Anyone else stunned that we called up an offensive prospect, and he's hitless in his first two games? -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) We ruin another good outing by the 21 year old rookie. The main thing to look forward to the rest of this year if we continue to suck is the development of Danks. That at least gives us something to look forward to every 5th game.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) Ozzie said he would quit if we aren't winning, and we are 12-13 now. It's time for him to honor his loudmouthed word, and take Walker with him. Remember, everyone used to say the team would never look heartless along as Ozzie's in charge. What's our record again since the ASB of last year? I have to believe we have the worst record in the AL Central during that time. -

We should always do a hit-and-run with Mackowiak. All he does is hit groundes with runners on bases. I hope KW is proud of this s***ty team he assembled. -

At least we're consistent....back-to-back games of a hitter taking a called 3rd strike with the tying run on base in top of the 8th. Pods would be proud! -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) At this rate, probably 6 games. If we're lucky. Well, the Tigers are now getting Sheffield going. They have quite an impressive 2-3-4-5 heading into the summer. -

QUOTE(Y2HH @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) This offense is beyond sad, with or without Thome and Pods. This team isn't even fun to watch anymore. Which is why I stopped...I simply look up our latest 1 run offensive showing loss after the game rather than spending time watching 9 innings of suck. This is the first time I'm tossing my hat into to "we need a new hitting coach" hat. We just need something to shake things up here...every players approach is horrid. Period. In what has to be a defense mechanism, this might be the most opportune time for the Sox to be sellers at the deadline in the last 5 years or so. -

AJ's act has grown old. Again, great thing we were testing out Toby at 1B. -

QUOTE(TheOcho @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) Kenny has been silent for too long. He needs to do something or say something before this season goes farther into the hole. Maybe not be silent during the offseason? -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) If we had pitching like this in the 2nd half of last season, we make the playoffs. Possibly, but it's not like our offense was going nuts during the 2nd half of last year. I respect your opinion though, and it's interesting to see you calling for someone's head right now. -

Uribe starts off the year well, and even he is down below .225 now. I never thought I'd see the day where the Mariners lineup looks twice as good as the Sox's does.
