  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) DJ commenting that Garcia's velo is down, and stating he'll rear back and fire it when he needs to. Interesting. You can tell Garcia is trying to hit his spots. I'm not exactly thrilled that he's trying to become Greg Maddux, but I'm willing to see how his control is. The only thing that could hurt him is that the lower velocity makes his slider less effective as a strikeout pitch.
  2. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 01:43 AM) Does anyone think this will boast his draft value? Nope. Scouts know who the best point guard(s) really are. Congratulations to Dee for winning a popularity contest.
  3. I've been looking over the lineups today, and I have to say that most of the teams don't have a lot of talent. I've been impressed with the lineups of the Cubs (sad to say), Mets, and Phillies. Also, I'm shocked by how many relievers that have pitched today that I've never heard of.
  4. Name recognition is a beautiful thing for people sometimes.
  5. Anyone else notice that Marte came in and gave up the go-ahead hit today?
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) His velocity was way down and he got hit hard. Its something we brought up on the show today. By far the least impressive of everyone that played last night. According to statistics based on balls put in play, Politte was the luckiest pitcher in baseball last season. His fastball was down a couple of mph, and didn't seem to have a lot of zip. It's still early though, so hopefully his arm strength will build up. McCarthy looked great last night though, which was good to see. Also, Thornton's never going to have pinpoint control. If he can throw strikes, he'll be a useful reliever.
  7. I don't say this about many players, but Thome could hit .200 this year with 15 homers, and I would still root for him and like him. He's a great guy, and the type of person who you know respects the game and his teammates. It's going to be fun to watch him bat this season.
  8. I had great tickets for it, saw a solid show, and got home in time to see the Sox onslaught tonight.
  9. I'm not going to be able to watch the game live tonight, but I just wanted to say Go Sox!
  10. Who's in the pen today?
  11. I don't buy this rumor, but if it's true, it's a terrible trade for the Cubs. Carlos Lee isn't exactly a proven winner. Also, he's a free agent after this season. Giving up 3 of the best young players in your organization for Carlos would be dumb!
  12. I LOVE how we can have more lefties in the lineup against tough righties who have potentially dominating sliders.
  13. Garland looks terrible lately.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) Where as McCarthy is still under our control for years still and has the ability to match the productivity of anyone in our rotation. Over the course of the season, I think McCarthy would have a good chance of putting up better numbers than Garcia, Garland, and Vazquez.
  15. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Not at all Fathom... the kid has enough pressure on him. Just dont like the labels guys give these kids without substantional backing. I really Like Mccarthy, seen his MLB debut at Wrigley and he was the reason I went! The thing with McCarthy is that he's far and away our best young pitching "prospect". Our organization has very little in terms of pitching prospect depth, and if we trade McCarthy, we're going to end up having to spend 50 million a year to piece together a 5 man rotation.
  16. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) Lat time I checked , you play the players that give you the best chance of winning. How can anyone who watched the 2nd half of last season really have anything bad to say about McCarthy? He was our second best pitcher down the stretch, behind Contreras.
  17. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) I recall the Indians starting J. Wright his rookie season in the post season, and they were right on doing so as we were having mccarthy watch. Man, you really hate McCarthy it seems. We had 4 outstanding starters, and the only reason McCarthy wasn't on the postseason roster was because Ozzie wanted Duque's experience to be on the team. You won't find many young pitchers in baseball with McCarthy's command, stuff, and poise. Personally, I'll be extremely pissed if we trade him.
  18. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) Dont want to start a Rowand thread like last year.. look what it got him.. a Philly uniform.. anyone can get dealt. Part of a business, you need to look at it that way. Its about winning now, not later... McCarthy's value to this organization over the long term blows away the long term value that Rowand had to this organization.
  19. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Understood, just replying to the "total package" statement. Gio, has 4 quality pitches and a lefty, McCarthy 2 pitches with a change up that still in progress and he's he total package? Yes, McCarthy showed last year that his stuff is good enough to dominate in the majors. Also, he has a much better frame for MLB success than Gio, who has yet to prove he can stay healthy.
  20. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) What makes you think that hes the total package? If they can trade Gio and Young.. McCarty can go as well. Kip Wells had betetr numbers in his firts 7 starts than McCarthy. The organization also hated Kip Wells.
  21. jphat.....thanks for the info all spring training doing pbp, etc.
  22. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) I wouldn't bet one Davis staying in the draft. Even if he does declare, he has virtually no draft buzz, so he's probably a second round pick, meaning he'd pull out. Even if they did both go, Tasmin Mitchell is solid, Minor and Mason are decent starters, Rolle is about as athletic as Thomas, and Lazare and Temple are pretty good role players. Big Baby wanted to go pro all season....and then he became one of the most prominent faces of this tournament. Him and Thomas are locks to go pro. If they lose those two guys, they're back to being about a .500 SEC team.
  23. Just a couple of things: - I think we can all agree that Marte had to go. - If Jenks can't do a solid job as a closer, our bullpen is in a lot of trouble. - I hope it doesn't sound like some of us are doing too much b****ing. We'd much rather be in this position then worrying how Felix Diaz or Arnie Munoz will do as the 5th starter.
  24. Balta....even though I'm not happy with our bullpen, that was an excellent post. Well done!
  25. QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) We traded the two pitchers in the bullpen who most people complained about last year (Marte and Viz) and people still complain. Not a soul would have complained if we would have just replaced them with legit major league pitchers. Also, I think that the crapiness that has been Bobby Jenks so far is showing how uncertain our bullpen is.
