  1. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) Bodes well for us. No it doesnt. Buehrle needs a bigger zone much more than Santana does. Santana will still K guys even if the zone is 5 inches big.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) Yeah, really. I though the one that PK checked up on was right down the pipe... It was
  3. Nothing like having a butcher at 3rd base with a pitcher on the mound who gives up a ton of grounders to the left side of the infield. If anything, Crede should be playing against the lefty, and just DH Ozuna then if Ozzie wants him in the lineup.
  4. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Dont you think that the OF'er would be Gabe Kapler, who mysteriously signed to play in Japan, and now is back? I know you said big names but Kapler is the obvious choice for me... Kapler is a monster bodybuilder. He's been huge since he came up through the minor leagues. I don't think he's on roids...especially since his numbers haven't shot up. There is a certain guy on the Red Sox whose power is way down since the testing this season.
  5. QUOTE(tpezz27 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) No I think he started to take them again after he couldn't hit without them! Nowhere did I say he just started to take them now, don't be so ignorant! Your post made it seem like the reason Palmeiro started taking steroids was cause he was struggling this season and he wanted to reach 3000 hits. I'm pretty sure that's how everyone else read it also.
  6. QUOTE(tpezz27 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) Palmeiro atleast sucked the first month of the season and had to be worried he wouldn't get to his 3000 hits.....so he atleast had something to well cheat for....lol You really think Palmeiro decided to start taking them this year, when the testing got strict? Don't be so naive.
  7. I thought Canseco said Clemens did steroids? Anyways, I have no clue if this was true or not, but I've been on this site for a year consistently saying that a MLB scout told me that the Red Sox were a team that absolutely abused steroids the past few years. Guys like Millar and Trot Nixon were hinted at, but that's not confirmed. Would it shock me if Damon was on roids? Not at all. Clemens would shock me though.
  8. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) The sky is not falling, but this stretch is going just as some people thought it might go. I've been waiting for it all year. Interesting. We face some terrific pitching in the next week. I'll be happy if we have a lead over 7 games after the end of next week. Something has got to be done to spark this team, and I honestly think there's no solution to the problem. Nothing we can do about someone like Crede just stinking up the month. So far, this has looked like the typical Sox tank job vs the Twins in August.
  9. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) Maybe the Reds COO was hinting to Williams to throw in BMac (a potential #1). Keep hope alive I say It's getting interesting at least. Anderson looked good out there. If he continues to play well the next week or so maybe we can swing KGJ for a hot Anderson, BMac, & PTBNL. Would you do that & do you think the Reds would bite? That would be an awful trade by the Sox. We'd be getting old and expensive real quick.
  10. BTW, I just posted this in the gamethread, but we face some ridiculous starting pitching in the next week or so. By my calculations, we'll face Randy Johnson, Radke, Santana, Silva, and Felix Hernandez on consecutive nights. Oh boy, this might not be pretty.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Not that freeing up $40 million or so could help them get pitching... Look at the FA market this offseason. The Reds want an ace, and the only big name available is Burnett, who surely won't go to Cincy. With their small ballpark, no stud FA pitcher will go to Cincy. Their best opportunity to get a top pitcher is to trade someone.
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Adkins sucks ass. But we did have 6 innings to score freaking 1 run to win this thing. Our offense is slumping- KGJ please? It seems like we haven't won a game in weeks- lets at least salvage a game at HOME. Our record at home after the ASG is 6-9. Thats not good. With Santana pitching today and the Yankees coming to town- we might see our division lead shrink to 8 games by Sunday nite. I'm starting to get alittle worried here guys. Then, after the Yankees series, we're going to likely get Radke, Santana, and Silva at the Dome, followed by Felix Hernandez at Seattle. At this point, I would gladly take .500 the rest of the way, but there's no guarantee we can even play at that level.
  13. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) Can someone explain to Harrleson that Thomas and Everett played at the same time why can't Griffey and Everett. We can not work a count. The Twins won because they foul off good pitches and work a count. This is what Crede, Iguchia nd Uribe need to do but they are incapable. We need a bat, big time. I have a feeling that Hawk has been told to shoot down the chances that Griffey Jr. comes here. If you watched the last two nights, it seemed very obvious they were doing their best to state their main reason why he won't be coming here. Hawk loves Griffey Jr., and I find it hard to believe he'd really rather have Everett, etc.
  14. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) reds management is absolutely clueless. Yeah, what idiots to actually ask for something in return that could help their team. I never understood why the Reds would have even considered a deal centered around Young and Rogo. That team needs pitching, pitching, and more pitching.
  15. I completely understand why the Sox want a long reliever, as it's a great way to save the bullpen in case of a blow out, etc. The problem is that Adkins just isn't a good pitcher. Ozzie did a fine job managing the bullpen tonight, and I agree he should have pulled Jenks after 2 innings.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) Replacing Konerko with Blum probably saved a game in NY as Blum snared a liner headed for the RF corner with the tying and winning runs on base for the Yankees. Edit: Now, I'm suddenly not so sure it was against NY. I sure hope that PK could have caught that same liner. It was hit right to Blum, who was guarding the line. I know Konerko is slow, but he deserves more credit than that for his defense.
  17. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:50 AM) Shake him off. Or go talk to him about it. You still threw the pitch. Yep, and it was an awful pitch. I have no clue why he didn't try to strike him out with the splitter. Also, I always thought the philosophy was late in the game that if the tying run is up, you make them beat you to the opposite field.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) I'd say that philosophy is a given. I mean to the point that I wouldn't even be upset, and more find it humorous. I'm sure this board would be in a total meltdown if the Sox don't make the playoffs. However, even as negative as I am, I think it would be one of those train wrecks that you just have to sit back and be amazed at. I pray that this situation never occurs though, and we make the playoffs.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) Question to throw out there. Would you actually like to see the Sox lead get to about 6 games on September 15th?? While that is number would be very low, it would certainly give the Sox a kick in the ass, and maybe more motivation to pick up the pace. Im not saying I want it to be at 6 games, but would it be the worst thing in the world for this team right now? Also, in a town known to be pessimistic about their own teams, I have a bad feeling that there would be a lot of booing at games, etc. After just taking a nice long shower, it made me laugh to think how a lot of us are so upset right now, even though we have an 11 game lead in the division and 13 over the Twins. Of course, by no means do I think the division is clinched. However, there's still a long way to go before we're in serious danger of blowing the lead. Does anyone else want to join my philosophy that if this team doesn't make the playoffs, then they just flat out didn't deserve to make it?
  20. BTW, Hermanson doesn't seem too pleased about AJP's pitch selection to Cuddyer. In tomorrow's tribune, he states how AJP called for a low and in slider to Cuddyer, and Hermanson said he hasn't thrown many to righty batter. Thursday's day off can't come soon enough.
  21. Very close play. Looks like he might have been out, but it was extremely close.
  22. The one thing that this prolonged slump we've been in could hopefully do is make KW, and especially Ozzie, realize this team is not the greatest collection of talent ever.
  23. No, I'd rather the lead stays about 8 or 9 the rest of the way. The closer the lead gets, the less I trust Ozzie to actually ever take our a starting pitcher.
  24. I've heard the Mariners want a ton for Ibanez. He'd be a good addition, but I'm not sure Ozzie would want to play him too often.
