Our low levels are full of prospects. Upper levels there a smattering of prospects but a lot of filler. Gonna take awhile, longer than I had hoped.

Moncada/Willy Garcia leave game after collision
BamaDoc replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Garcia had surgery for a broken jaw out 4-6 weeks. -
Holy crap my access just now came back. The last few days sucked! I need warning before this crap happens again, I didn't know what had happened. I spent so much deadline time on line, I may need help. Cold turkey withdrawal left me shaken.

I think we have several slots open on our 40 man roster. As these teams add players at the deadline, they may have to DFA someone who may be worth trying. They will probably have warts but should be no risk vs some reward. May find a interesting arm or two or a positional player with a interesting tool or two. The older prospect etc. This may be as good a return as we get for some of our last players.

I think we will need to sign several free agents for next year. We need to protect our young pitchers and not rush them ala Carson Fulmer. Shields seems ok as the veteran mentor and no one is going to take him so he stays. We will also have to replace a lot of other innings. We have several things to offer. 1) opportunity, that's easy to see 2) A great medical staff for those looking to bounce back 3) Don Cooper, again for bounce backs. 4) low payroll I am in no way suggesting we sign high level guys. You bottom feed and hope you find something. Also watch that we may be able to bring in some minor league free agents ala Q and give them their chance. All the people we acquire also should know if they do well, they could be pitching meaningful games late in the year as we will flip them. Every year, there are free agents who linger far longer than they expect. We can swoop in and buy low. We need several relievers as well. Let them compete, several one year deals , see who sticks and flips. As our young guys get ready none of these players will block them. I am not against bringing back Gonzales but I think he may get a better offer than I would give but I would keep the door open. Holland, we need his innings but I wonder if he could reestablish value as a reliever? At 6 million I am not willing to resign unless he shows he can still pitch this last part of the season or signs an incentive madden deal at lower dollars to pitch in relief.

MLB.com had Fox as a 50 FV which may be to good a prospect. Looking in the 45 pool they have some interesting LHP, Genesis Cabrera and Brock Burke (great names) who are far away projection wise or Ryan Yarbrough who is the older type (25 yo) at AAA who we might actually be able to use at the major league level.

Minor league coaching: get away from ex players
BamaDoc replied to Dominikk85's topic in FutureSox Board
Not a bad thought. I think we should get the best people/person we can. It could be a old player who happens to use the new toys. Look how things have changed in golf with instant swing tracker analysis. The best have incorporated the new tech right into their teaching. We also need a consistent organizational teaching program. When we had Charlie Lau, all levels taught his philosophy. We also have to realize that some players may click with certain styles or teachers better than others so you still have to be adaptable. It would be interesting to see an interview with Getz or hitting coordinator where they discuss how we do things. -
QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Your username is BamaDoc and Foster's MiLB profile says he went to Alabama. Do you know anything about his stuff/repertoire, perhaps from watching him in college? His stats are good, but it's a small sample size and I don't know anything about him. Considering he was a late round pick, I doubt there's much info on him out there. Nice pickup but I am a bit older. My son was at UA then but doesn't have anything to add. The affiliation did catch my attention. The lower levels have had a bunch of closers/late inning guys doing well. I realize they would probably by lesser prospects than starters but hey I am all for finding diamonds.

Anyone know anything about him. I know he unretired earlier this year. In A ball,22yrs old. Any idea what kind of prospect he is considered ? pretty nice stats

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 01:52 AM) That grounder at 3b looked like the 3b (davidson) should have made the play, no? Oh well at least knocked down and get one

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 08:51 PM) can't find him. Marco! sorry couldn't resist

If we can unload a MLB starting pitcher, I could see Lopez to MLB, Stephens to AAA, someone to AA, Cease to A+. If Clarkin doesn't go to AA, I would pair with Cease to limit their innings as both are up above previous years.

When is rock bottom of the rebuild: 2017 or 2018?
BamaDoc replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
2018 will be much worse than 2017. If you have been in the minors threads, just wait till one of the prospects comes up and struggles or fails. It can be mitigated by assets we sign off the scrap heap. Our medical staff and Coop should be an asset and very busy. We need a couple pitchers to lessen hurrying prospects. Shields will be the babysitter, maybe bring back Holland who seems like the typical weird LHP who might help in a clubhouse. Same for Gonzales though I wouldn't pay much for either. FA who don't sign early can be picked up cheap and know if they perform they could end up on a contender. We will rebuild the value of Jones, Putnam, and Petricka and move ASAP. -
WTH there were Yankee fans and people here who didn't think Rutherford was on the table for Q!!!! I maintain, with his salary Frazier had little or nearly negative value ( Clippard salary back). To get a good prospect most thought we had to include money with Robertson. This is not bad at all. Another high risk high reward by getting lower level people, hope some hit as some won't.

Nice start for Danish. Five scoreless before giving up 2 in the sixth. Anyone notice Rochester's CF JB Shuck?

Todd has picked a bad time to go cold. .130 .310 .348 last 7 games. Would love a hot streak

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox

I have not seen the amount reported anywhere. Anyone know? If we used money we weren't/didn't have anyone to spend on, this is a solid lottery ticket. Young enough to turn into something and way better than what we could get for 300k.

I actually like the return for Oakland. Luzardo is the classic wild card type for a reliever but he has pitched since his Tommy John and in 13 ip has 15ks and zero walks. Neuse is doing better than Ward(offseason offer for Robertson w/Luzardo) Trienen could regain form. I would have at least listened at this for Robertson + Swarzak. From Nats point, they get a LHP with more years of control than Swarzak. The Nats also get two weeks to see if this fixes things.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
BamaDoc replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honest question....I had proposed Happ and Candelario. Which return is better? I liked them as I saw less risk as one MLB other AAA -
Nats have had forever to complete a Robertson trade so I don't think it is going to happen. I think they will get someone cheap. I would make a final call and here is my ask and reasoning. Robertson has increased his value by his performance vs this winter and his money owed is less. One player mentioned before is in AA and struggling and we drafted a 3b in the first round so I am taking him out. We liked Luzardo before and he is pitching now so he stays. So....... Robertson for Luzardo LHP, and either 50 value cf Robertson at AAA if we pay half Robertson's 2018 salary or 45 value cf Perkins 20 yr old who is toolsy but at A ball and is putting together an interesting year for little/less money.

Jones out for Season, nerve repositioning surgery
BamaDoc replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Evidently there is a clause in the contract that if he has a elbow surgery the terms change. -
From the Braves, I was hoping for Albies or Acuna but then dropping a bit lower on a second piece like Wentz and rounding it out with another lower ranked pitcher and hitter. Braves have great pitching prospects and its not like some other organizations.

Albers started the year for us with a ridiculous scoreless streak then I think he got way overused and never bounced back whether mentally or physically or both. He had a track record of being decent and started this year decent/good for the Nats. Perhaps he is a guy who really needs his workload monitored which is not going to be easy when he was pitching well and your other guys were not. Maybe no back to backs or periodic 2-3 days off. I don't know of anyone tracking how often guys warm up and aren't used or warm up 2-3 times before being used etc. Remember it was Jack McDowell who explained during games he pitched, he limited his pre inning warm up pitches in order to decrease the load and go deeper into games.
