50 FAVORITE WHITE SOX PLAYERS
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) If it wasn't for the Tigers and their huge gamble, he would still be here. Boras doesn't have amazing mind meld powers. The Tigers took a gamble with a contract probably double what the Sox would and should have offered. Winners all around. Except the Tigers only guaranteed him $6M. So yeah they took a gamble but not an astronomical one. His salary for the '05 season was $6M but if he spent at least 25 days on the DL during the 2005 season because of that osteochondritis condition then the Tigers could void the deal at seasons' end, they'd be out $6M thanks to their risk taking. The biggest risk was that Magglio would stay healthy for the first season (not likely if the knee injury was going to be a problem) then have a recurrence of the osteochondritis condition in the second season, costing the Tigers $63M (they would already have paid him $12M in the form of his '05 salary and a $6M signing bonus paid after the '05 season). Magglio Ordonez was and still is an incredible talent and was certainly worth a $6M gamble (as well as a $63M gamble if he showed he could stay healthy over a full season of play) especially when you're a loser franchise looking to pick yourself up out of the gutter.

WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) Great great day. Applause for our starters. Wise's hit truly was incredible. Loved Thome's homer and BA's as well. I don't know what lesson can be learned from Game Two. I guess Oz should assume no lead is safe the next 2 weeks and only pitch Thornton and Bobby in the pen until their arms fall off. And I guess Linebrink as well. Boone should never toe the rubber again this year. Just the sight of him awakens our opponents' bats. Doetl is stealing money from major league baseball. He is so bad at times it baffles. A DH win this time of year is so huge. Congrats Sox on a great day. Dotel's struggles over the past month and a half are likely a bi-product of the number of innings he threw in the first 4 months (4 incredibly effective months) of the season. He has over 60 IP this year, he hasn't thrown anywhere near this many since 2004 largely because of the Tommy John surgery he had in 2006. So you have a 34 year old reliever who hasn't thrown much over the past 3 seasons and is really coming off ligament replacement surgery and yet he was able to remain effective for 4 months/50 innings to start the season? I'd say the Sox have gotten their money's worth. First 50.2 IP from Dotel: 3.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 12.79 K/9, 4.09 BB/9, 5 HR, .193 BAA and stranded 75% of his inherited runners. That's easily worth five million dollars. Relievers are going to be fickle, one day they'll save your ass, the next they'll kill you, it's just the nature of the bullpen. He's been truly awful since the start of August, like 8 ERA, s*** load of hits, .330+ BAA, 50% IR stranded, 1.200 OPS against bad. His arm is about to fall off.

2008 MLB Catch-All Thread
If anyone but Tim Lincecum wins the NL Cy Young it'll be a damn shame. He's easily been the best pitcher in the National League this season, followed by Johan. Brandon Webb isn't even in my top 5.

2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread
That would be rather fitting wouldn't it? The Cubs end up playing 84 home games and 78 road games, seems like a rather large advantage to me. I don't really see any other solution either.

Blue Jays @ White Sox 7:11
Brian Anderson putting on a f***ing clinic out there.

Blue Jays @ White Sox 7:11
The Blue Jays have played horrendous defense in this series.

Blue Jays @ White Sox 7:11
HOORAY FOR BUNTING!!!

Blue Jays @ White Sox 7:11
KEEP HIM IN THE 6th SPOT!!!

Broadway starting sunday...
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) I guess our hand is pretty forced to use a 6th starter due to the rain out. Vazquez starting Saturday on 3 days rest eliminates the need for a 6th starter, Broadway will be making his start on Sunday as the 5th starter in place of Richard.

Blue Jays @ White Sox 7:11
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) Supposedly Ozzie told the media that Wise and Owens will play a lot more now due to their bunting ability. That makes no f***ing sense on any level.

Blue Jays @ White Sox 7:11
QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) I bet Wise and Owens are in because they can lay down bunts. I guess we are trying the speed game today. Maybe if they get on, they can mess with Halladay. Jerry Owens is a s***ty bunter. He's also not a very good baserunner. Hell, aside from above average speed he isn't much of a "small ball" player.
-
Blue Jays @ White Sox 7:11
f***ing hilarious. Wise starting in LF and hitting second and the talentless wonder Jerry Owens will start in CF and bat 9th. Awesome.
-
Revamp lineup?
Only 12 XBH in 350 minor league ABs this season for Owens. How is that even possible?

9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) Who is a good manager then? Leyland? He's supposed to be the messiah. LaRussa? He's a god. Give me a break. In game, Ozzie goes with the talent he has. If the talent produces he looks good; if it doesn't he sucks. Torre? Leyland? LaRussa? I think you're stuck somewhere in the mid 90's.

9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
HEY! We got a f***ing hit!!! Just 10 more and we'll be right back in this thing.

9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) So, you condone of the bunt attempts in this afternoon's game? How about letting Jerry Owens bat with the go-ahead runner on 2nd base? How about letting Wassermann face G. Anderson? Who can forget the Horacio debacle in Baltimore, followed up with having AJP "try" to bunt in front of Quentin. There's a big f***ing difference between second and first guessing.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) I would like to congratulate the Whitesox offense for creating a time machine. You see, its April again. Here is our run output for the last 11 games. 8/27 3 runs 8/29 0 runs 8/30 2 runs 8/31 4 runs 9/1 0 runs 9/2 3 runs 9/3 4 runs 9/5 10 runs 9/6 7 runs 9/7 2 runs 9/9 1 run Dude, it's f***ing FREEZING out there. How do you expect them to hit in this weather?
-
9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
The over/under on baserunners allowed by Adam Russell is 3.5.
-
9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
I assume this team won't score another run in this game, hell if they could they'd give a few back, so through 6 games against the Blue Jays this season the Sox have scored 8 runs and have allowed 20. That's a recipe for success.
-
9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
The White Sox hitter have officially given up. This defeatist attitude they're displaying is pretty f***ing sickening.
-
9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
A 2.5 game lead at 1:05pm will be a 1 game lead 9 hours later, I don't even want to think about 48 hours from now.

Paulie's Down
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) has Poreda been mentioned in any context for being up here soon? that would start his arb clock His Arb clock isn't an issue, anyone who says otherwise is either full of s*** or knows nothing about the process.

9/9: White Sox vs Blue Jays, DH G2: 7:11, CSN
Oh god, are we gonna have to watch this f***ing Blackhawks commercial during every break now? It's so f***ing annoying.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) And if you don't think that injury is just a killer to the clubhouse morale, then you haven't followed the Sox the last few years. I'd say there's a damn good chance we go hitless for the remainder of this game. Wise, Dye and Thome looked absolutely pathetic right there. I don't think it's a coincidence.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) he's been good. but not over the top. .356/.474/.656/1.130 in his last 114 PA He's been our best hitter over that timespan. He's been white hot of late.
