QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) I don't think its as lopsided as people are claiming. A-ram has a higher average, more SB, 1/2 the K's, more hits, slightly less RBI and HR, 4 GS's. 'ei started off ice cold and longo missed a month. Sure he may get it just cause the MLB has been hyping up Longo and nobody knows who Alexei is, but it should be extremely close. Sure Alexei has 5 more SB but he's been an absolutely horrid base stealer, if he's going to be 12/21 then I'd rather he not steal bases at all. Longoria is 7/7 by the way. There's an 83 point difference in OPS, 27 point difference in OPS+ (which factors in the fact that Alexei gets to play half his games in the Cell) and Longoria has drawn 30 more walks. Slightly less HR? 6 is slightly less? Longoria is also an elite defensive 3B, while Alexei has been pretty underwhelming at 2B. ALL of Alexei's defensive metrics suck, so you have to give Longoria a huge edge on defense. It's a tie in run production. Alexei takes contact hitting (AVG and avoiding K's) and hitting with RISP. Longoria takes power hitting, patience at the plate, base stealing prowess, defense and Longoria is the better player in close and late situations. And if Longoria is going to be penalized for strikeouts then I feel I must mention Alexei has grounded into 6 more double plays than Evan which tends to happen with contact hitters. VORP rankings for AL Rookie Position Players: 35.0 - Aviles 34.8 - Longoria 20.7 - Span 20.3 - Ramirez 18.0 - C. Davis Aviles also has some crazy ass numbers this season but I won't even bother making an argument for him.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 12:32 AM) what on earth has Justin Morneau done to deserve MVP consideration? you know, other than hit behind 3 guys that get on at a .386, .336, and .415 clip respectively. Pedroia should be the MVP of the league. His OPS+ is lower than Morneau's, but, without even looking, I imagine his VORP is a ridiculous amount higher. Honestly I'd prefer Hamilton winning the MVP over Morneau. I looked up their numbers earlier and it wasn't even close. Pedroia finished with an identical number to Utley, 62.3 I believe. Amongst probable AL MVP candidates (not counting Sizemore who actually finished with a higher VORP than Dustin) Mauer was the closest, being a catcher and all, at 56.4. Quentin, who only played 5 months this year actually finished at 52 something. Morneau? 27th in baseball at 46.4. Hamilton was 57 something. Oh and Albert Pujols finished with a VORP of 96.7 which is by far the highest in the game. If anyone else wins the NL MVP I'll be pissed. The Twins offense has a reputation for being pretty weak but the top 3 guys tend to get on base. Justin Morneau gets an absurd amount of RBI opportunities.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 08:17 PM) lifetime stats are overrated to me. 2008 stats can tell you more when evaluating Danks. Span: 0-3 .250 OPS Casilla: 0-3 .000 OPS Mauer: 7-9 1.596 OPS Morneau: 4-10 2B HR 1.255 OPS Kubel: 2-6 2B .875 OPS Cuddyer: 2-4 2B 1.350 OPS Young: 3-7 2B 1.000 OPS Harris: 5-9 2 2B 1.378 OPS Punto: 1-3 .666 OPS Gomez: 2-10 .533 OPS Not pretty -

This is going to be one of the all time most uncomfortable interviews right here. Wow.
-
For the past month or so it's been like watching a Cubs game with the inordinate amount of defensive f***ups that Sox opponents have been committing.
-
Alexei Ramirez slides a stride and a half too early, sometimes 2 full strides. By the time he gets to the bag his body has no momentum. Cox needs to work with him because the guy would have 6 or 7 more SB this season if he just knew how to f***ing slide.
-
HUGE inning from Linebrink. He looked sharp.
-
Wow, nasty ass breaking ball from Liney right there.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) How has Blackburn fared vs the Sox? Particually at the Cell. I am too damn lazy to go look. They've destroyed him at the Cell.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) I'd be surprised if it wasn't the WS 2005 game 4 thread. Game 3

Wow, nicely done Dotel.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) Why do I keep hearing that Swisher is going to request/demand a trade? What is this, the NFL? I'm not saying it's true or even makes sense but if Nick Swisher wants to demand a trade in the offseason he will be totally within his rights to do so. A player who is traded during a multi-year contract may demand a trade from his new club in the offseason. If Swisher does demand a trade this offseason and isn't dealt by March 15th, 2009 he will become a free agent. Worked for Javy Vazquez.

Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox - 9/26

sac bunt HR -
.384/.408/.616/1.024 in 73 AB vs the Sox .244/.285/.330/.615 in 491 AB vs everyone else So yeah, when he's not playing the Sox he kinda sucks at baseball.
-
Carlos Gomez sucks ass against every other team.
-
Wow, the Sox's odds of winning the division just GREATLY improved with that linedrive off Slowey.
-
And the Twins fans take great joy in AJ's pain.
-
Bunch of f***ing losers. This team is self-fulfilling prophecy personified, tell yourself over and over that you can't win and guess what? You're not gonna f***ing win.
-
Apparently Kubel is also the f***ing s***. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR f***ING ASS VAZQUEZ!
-
Mauer and Morneau get no media coverage? Really? I hear plenty about these 2 f***ers. Hell Morneau might win his second MVP in 3 years this season how the f*** is he underrated?
-
Hawk now going down on Morneau.

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) I registered days after the Freddy Garcia deal in 2004, although I had been reading for quite a while. Soxtalk was my first White Sox site and although I visited others, it remains my favorite. Looks like I signed up only a few minutes/hours before you. Kind of cool.

Royals shift rotation, Meche and Greinke (?) to face Twins

QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) So you're saying it's a chicken-s*** record? I typed it out, noticed the mistake but let it go because I thought it was kinda funny. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Come on, Kalapse. You are King Stat Geek here. You know Griffey is a better option to start against a righty over BA. No, not really. They're both .650 OPS OF, one has a whole hell of a lot more speed and can actually play some D. The inclusion of Junior in this lineup is not going to help create runs, the guy has lost the ability to hit the ball hard and without that he's not giving you much. Personally, I'd go with Brian. Hopefully Grif will magically find his power stroke for this series but I'm not counting on it. And honestly, Ozzie playing Junior over BA doesn't bother me as much as him hitting AJ 2nd and Wise 8th. That's just f***ing retarded.
