QUOTE (southsidehawkeye @ Apr 26, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) I second that... Giving Broadway a spot start is a better option than Masset IMO However, until I see otherwise I have to believe that this move is going to be very short term to bring up a Broadway for a spot start. Its not like MacDougal has been horrible this year... he has actually been doing much better than I would have thought. I hope Im wrong on this and that they will bring up Wassermann though... I never feel that good with Mac on the bump. There's no room for Mike MacDougal on this team, he's a project, a team like the Pirates should be using him in the 6th inning of their many blowouts hoping he can somehow find his feel for the strike zone. The Sox have hopes of contending, they can't afford to carry multiple pitchers that they're afraid to use in close and late situations (with Nick and Octavio in the pen there might be 3 at this point.) With his seemingly incurable wildness he can't be counted on and that is a problem. At least with Wassermann you have another guy you can use in the 8th inning of close game with some sort of confidence that he's going to retire a batter.

4/25 Gamethread: Sox (12-9) vs Orioles (13-9), 7:11 CSN+

If the same storm that just hit Streamwood is just now passing over the South Side then it'll only be an hour or hour an a half before they start up again. -
If he hits 20 more this season he'll have to average only 22 a season over the next 4 years. So yes, I'd say he has a damn good shot.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) I thought Quentin primarily played RF when he played for the dbacks, no? He did (only 18 career innings in LF compared to 966 in RF) and he was always considered a + defender throughout his minor league career. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) He's 1st ballot, IMO. I agree, I also think he has 4 or so REALLY good years left in him so he should get pretty close to 500 HRs.

Chipper has the highest OPS of any 3B in the history of the game. (46 points higher than Schmidt)
-
Player A has 1159 less career ABs not to mention an OPS that's 127 points higher and an OPS+ that's 19 points higher. HUGE difference in offensive value.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) This is a perfect chance to get Anderson into a game tonight. Hopefully it happens. Think again. Swish, RF Cabrera, SS Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Quentin, LF Crede, 3B Ramirez, CF Uribe, 2B Hall, C I'm really starting to wonder why Owens isn't up here right now with Anderson getting some ABs in AAA. At least Owens would be used every once in a while in a pinch running role. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) They only started chanting re-sign Buehrle after it was found out they had negotiations going on for a reasonable contract and that the Barry Zito signing actually didn't ruin Buehrle's chances of staying with the Sox. And the hand-wringing, panic, and conspiracy theories coming from the fanbase at the time were both hilarious and pathetic, but in the end, Buehrle stayed with the team because he wanted to, and they found a way to make it happen. He sacrificed some of his market value but it was a win-win situation all around. Besides, these situations are not at all comparable. -As good as Crede is sometimes he's got nowhere the level of established consistency Buehrle's had for most of his career -Buehrle doesn't have lingering back problems. -The Sox did not have a potential-packed prospect immediately ready to replace Buehrle and adjust rapidly to the MLB level, with MLB time to boot (Gio notwithstanding). Yep that's pretty much what I was thinking. There's a whole lot more obstacles in the way of Crede being extended than there were for Buehrle.

QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) Alright we need this one. Have we seen Hughes at all? Even in spot bullpen appearances last season? Only one White Sox hitter has faced Hughes, Orlando Cabrera. He's 0-2 w/ BB. -
QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) The Big Lebowski should be higher than 12, which is really a testament to how hilarious that movie actually is. John Goodman's best performance, his exchanges with Buscemi are pure gold.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) that's how I'm trying to sell it to myself, but yesterday was a bit of a gut punch game, I am really looking forward to see how they look tonight. Hughes and Mussina have been bad this year (although I believe Mussina pitched OK in his last outing). I don't want to hear how they magically "found it" against the Sox. Hawk would use the "You're not (insert # of games Mussina is over .500 here) games over .500 in your career for nothing" as the Sox are flailing away at pitches a foot out of the zone 3 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 0 BB, 1 K vs BOS on the 17th -
Keep in mind Carlos Quentin is still only 25 years old and has only ~450 career ABs.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) what i've learned after this game boone logan is spotty, he's either really good or really bad and you can't really tell which boone you're going to get when he takes the mound, generally if he's going 1-0, then 2-0, you have bad-boone dotel needs more velocity on his pitches when he's facing lefties, also his command seems to suffer when facing lefties. he's being paid too much to be a specialist, he needs to do the f***ing job thornton: see boone, except easier to hit and less command of the strike zone, falls behind hitters far too often ocab hasn't really done well in the 2-hole this year, and swisher hasn't been scoring a lot of runs, mainly due to thome & konerko's slumps, however today swisher is failing to get on base and thome/konk are actually hitting/getting on base, we need the whole 1 through 4 to click at the same time to make this offense respectable, otherwise it'll just be another average power-hitting lineup our bullpen is looking like 2007, started off in April looking really nice, exciting a lot of people, then started to suck complete monkey ass. Really? You learned that from this game? He faced 1 hitter and got him to ground weakly to short. Logan is pretty simple, if he's getting the called strike on the outer half to lefties he's going to be effective, if not he's going to fall behind and start putting guys on base.

QUOTE (SEALgep @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) I don't disagree if there is value to be had, but I think we'll end up being better off with draft picks. I don't see anyone giving up a lot for him at the deadline... Hope I'm wrong. Draft [sandwich] pick.
