  1. QUOTE(Top Notch @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 05:49 AM) You're comparing apples to oranges, Kalapse. Horrible example. If you're going to call it a horrible example at least expound upon your point so can rebut. "Apples and Oranges" doesn't really give me much to go on.
  2. It's the final game of the year, Alex Rodriguez has 72 homeruns and is going up against Boston and Josh Beckett in the final game of the season. Beckett hold Rodriguez in check, an 0-4 day for A-Rod. Barry Bonds' single season homerun record remains in tact. As a show of gratitude Bonds buys Josh Beckett a Ferrari. You know damn well most everyone would be pushing for the 3 year suspension. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) Why would some one think that giving a team 4 bottles of champagne for something that happened last year would be a big deal? Um because its not. I could see if Hunter bought them all cars, or did something that was substantial enough to perhaps impact the Royals. But for a baseball player a bottle of champagne is a gag gift. Most of those players make more money in an hour than all of the bottles were worth, so its not like they are going to start throwing games because "hunter gave us a few bottles." Not to mention it was for winning that he gave them a gift. It would be much more serious if the story was: Twins swept KC, then Hunter gave them champagne. Does anyone think that this played any role at all in the games played between KC and Detroit? It had no impact, that much I can agree on. That's why the rule should be amended. Why have it if it's not going to be enforced once broken? That's what I don't get. This is the same organization that was ready to suspend Craig Biggio for wearing a pin on his cap for the 20th straight season during Spring Training. About the most victimless crime there is and yet they were ready to enforce it. That's why this pisses me off, they decide when to enforce certain rules and when to look the other way. It's about time we get some consistency from Major League Baseball and their lame-ass rules violations. All I'm asking for is consistency.
  3. Alex did it again today. He is amazing.
  4. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) Someone posted it in this thread or one of the ones about Buerhle. All 8 of the no-hitters won their next game in this decade. This is incorrect. No pitcher has lost their next start. Meaning they can blow total ass but still get a no decision.

I mean, I guess it would just be a guy who you know, grabs bananas and runs. Or, um, a banana that grabs things. I don’t know. Why would a banana grab another banana? I mean, those are the kind of questions I don’t want to answer.
  6. 10-8 against the Royals is completely inexcusable, that needs to change this season.
  7. It is impossible to finish with a .540 win percentage if the team plays a full 162 game schedule. It's kind of funny because a .500 Win% will get you an 81-81 record, a .543 win% is 88-74. 2 totally different types of teams. Big difference between breaking even and finishing 14 games over.
  8. The only problem is, Tadahito Iguchi is not an All-Star caliber second baseman. So why would we want to vote him in?
  9. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) Molina calls a good game, but offensively he just isn't ready for the ML's yet Molina isn't even calling the pitches.
  10. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Sure - superior OPS the last 2 years. Not much different, but Crede's is better - at 1/3 of the price. And salary does matter when you have only $X to spend. And Crede's much better defensively - in my opinion. Where's your evidence that stone-feet Blaylock is in Crede's defensive stratosphere? 1.) You've never seen Beltre play, as much is apparent. 2.) Is it really that hard to follow the thread, we are not taking contracts into consideration here, it would make this entire discussion moot. Joe is still arbitration eligible while Beltre has already hit free agency, it makes no sense to compare contracts when Crede has yet to even test the market. This is only about who the better player is, taking into account performance and skill, there is no financial aspect to this discussion. 3.) Look up some scouting reports on Blalock, he's outstanding defensively. I also recommend you watch to Rangers games, he knows what he's doing out there. If I were a new baseball fan watching Crede play for the first time in 2007 I'd figure he's pretty average defensively because that's how he has performed.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 06:01 AM) And lol@A-rod. He can't spell postseason. What are his numbers again the last few years in the playoffs. That's not to say Crede is as good as A-rod. Is there a reason why people have selective memory when it comes to Alex Rodriguez? '97 ALDS: 16 AB, 1 HR, .876 OPS '00 ALDS: Struggled Vs the Sox pitching like everyone else on Seattle '00 ALCS: 22 AB, 2 HR, 1.253 OPS '04 ALDS: 19 AB, 1 HR, 1.213 OPS '04 ALCS: 31 AB, 2 HR, .894 OPS (WITH THE YANKEES) Up until the '05 season A-Rod had been a beast in postseason but now that he's playing for the Yankees, his struggles are amplified. And is there a reason why you'd be comparing Joe Crede's first go round in the postseason to A-Rod's 4th or 5th? How do you know Crede won't s*** the bed in the ALDS when he's 34? I really don't want to compare the 2 since it makes absolutely no sense to do so, I just hate the fact that everyone forgets what Alex did the first 3 years he got to play in October.
  12. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 07:19 AM) Seattle made some of the worst FA signings in memory - and Beltre's one of them. He is assuredly not better than Crede - and he costs, what 13 mill a year? Do you have any evidence to back this up?
  13. Skill? What skill? Being the worst hitter in baseball and his ability to make boneheaded mistakes on defense? Then yeah sure I'm impressed.
  14. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:00 AM) The point is, I'm sure Beltre isn't even on the Sox minds--his huge contract and probable roid use are just two reasons. The sox have Fields for 3b. This has nothing to do with acquiring players, I'm merely rating them on their performance and skill sets, listing players who I believe to be superior to Crede. I'm not sure what thread you're reading.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 07:16 PM) Beltre--nothing like hitting the juice in a contract year. Crede is a much better fit on the sox than a guy like Beltre. So now he's clean and still putting up equal numbers to Crede. What does that even mean, better fit? He's an equal or better hitter with huge offensive potential, a year younger, much faster, has no injury concerns at all and is a similar defensive player. I don't see why having a huge contract year should be a negative when judging him as a player now.
  16. I know I say if for every game now but that lineup is a f***ing joke for one glaring reason. I really think Ozzie has been pretty damn good this year with his managerial decisions but he's completely f***ed up in this regard.
  17. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) Adrian Beltre. Need I say more? Speaking of Adrian Beltre, I'd take him over Crede as well. Even last season, a year that wasn't considered all that great by mainstream baseball fans Adrian put up nearly identical numbers to Crede, right down to the 108 OPS+. Adrian is an incredibly skilled defensive player, is a year younger than Crede, actually has some wheels and has put up a season that makes you think there is some ultra-elite offensive player hiding inside him. He also has a clean bill of health, playing in atleast 156 games each of the past 5 seasons.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) that is starting to make some sense I guess. qwerty does love baseball history, so I can see why he'd like it. South Dakota is even more isolated from the rest of the country than I originally thought.
  19. .163/.236/.224/.461 .342/.561/.974/1.535 Wow. Polar freaking opposites on the same damn team.
  20. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) Hey, I know this is a lot to ask, but how about we wait till Pods is hitting below .300 before we throw him under the bus? I know he's on the DL but we paid next to nothing for him, in major-league terms. Obviously, Ichiro, amongst others, is a far superior player but if the Sox are willing to give up market value in prospects for him, I damn near guarantee you someone else will sell their entire farm just to get him. I'd rather not do that. Our best hope to land him is free agency, if you ask me. So, thusfar, Pods has been a more-than-adequate player for the price we paid. And there are a lot of ridiculous claims being made as to who's better than Pods. e.g. Gload for leadoff man? Hahahaha.... It's going to be a month at the least until he's even able to run again (his words not mine), that is just ridiculous. The lower half of his body is falling apart and he just can not be relied upon to stay healthy, he has proven as much. Knowing this I don't see any reason why he was brought back with absolutely no legitimate backup plan in place. Podsednik is going to miss atleast a quarter of the season, (how exactly is this adequate?) give me one good reason why he shouldn't be thrown under the bus.
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 12:30 AM) Speaking of things I've never seen For the 3 game series with Texas, Thome was 3 for 4 with 3 home runs, 3 RBI's, 5 runs scored, and 9 walks....so he reached based in 12 of his 13 plate apperances, that is astounding. Is there a reason why he hasn't been nominated for Sainthood? He's basically the greatest guy to ever play professional athletics and now he's a 36 year old farmboy who is still one of the most feared hitters in the game. Jim Thome has succeeded at everything he's set out to do it seems and it's a damn shame that more people don't know what kind of person he is.
  22. Can someone give me one reason why Joe Crede is a better player than Scott Rolen? He's had atleast 500 ABs 5 out of the last 6 season and he's had atleast an .860 OPS in each of those seasons including a year with a .910 another at .883 and a 483 AB season where his OPS topped .920 all while playing some of the best defense you are ever going to see at the position. Joe has had 1 season with an OPS over .760. Chipper Jones put up a 1.005 OPS last season in 477 PAs or 6 more PAs than Joe had in 2005. He's also a switch hitter and has put up a 140+ OPS+ in 8 of the last 9 seasons. Alex Rodriguez Miguel Cabrera David Wright Ryan Zimmerman Scott Rolen Chipper Jones Garrett Atkins . . . easy And I can make a case for quite a few more considering Crede's back problems and 1 above average offensive season.
  23. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) Hopefully he keeps it up. He is our offense right now fixed
  24. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) He should be our leadoff guy. If Ozzie had him leadoff for tomorrow's game I wouldn't b**** one bit. Atleast you know your best hitter is getting the most ABs in the game as opposed to your worst.
